classics_lover finishing another glorious week of hosting. Friday's theme is Ao3 tags. Tags that describe what your characters are up to, tags that are salty about fandoms, randomly generated tags (like from here), take your pick. Have fun!
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]

After spending the morning window shopping on main street, Bailey and I sit on the edge of a fountain in the park to catch our breath while we decide what to next. As we listen to the water and birds and watch kids playing on equipment nearby, her hand slides into mine, and I smile. Our relationship is new, and she’s still figuring out how much physical affection she wants, and I’m glad to see she’s comfortable doing this in public.
A woman jogs by on the path circling the park, gives us a quick glance, then does a double-take. My stomach tightens as she stops and moves back toward us.
“Forgive me if this is weird,” she says, smiling, “but you two make such a cute couple. My daughter just came out as a lesbian, and I hope she can be as happy and confident as you are someday.”
I immediately clock the discomfort on Bailey’s face and step in. “We’re not a couple.”
The woman’s brows furrow. “What? But you’re holding hands.”
“People can hold hands when they’re not dating.”
She eyes us. “You sure look like a couple.”
“We’re queerplatonic partners,” Bailey says stiffly.
“Excuse me?” The woman’s pinched look turns to a frown.
“Our relationship isn’t romantic,” I explain, wishing I didn’t have to. “We’re both on the aromantic spectrum, essentially not interested in dating anyone. But we’re still partners.”
“So, like friends with benefits?”
Bailey shifts uncomfortably, looking away. I know this woman has made my asexual partner uncomfortable by assuming such a thing.
“We don’t have to explain our relationship to you,” I say sharply. “You don’t know us, and you need to not make assumptions. Please leave us alone.”
“Well, if that’s the way you’re going to be about it,” the woman sniffs. She turns and jogs off without another word.
I turn to my partner, all concern. “Are you okay?”
Bailey draws her hand back to herself, and I hate the stranger for making her do that. Bailey wraps her arms around herself and nods unconvincingly. I want to her hug her, but it’s not hard to figure out that would be a bad idea here and now.
“I’m sorry,” I murmur instead.
“It’s not your fault”
“Hey, I have an idea. Let’s head back to my house and watch a movie. I’ll make us a snack, and I can hold your hand all day long and no one will see or judge us.”
Bailey peeks over at me, a tiny smile growing on her lips. “Yeah?”
“Yeah. And next time some asshole does something like this, I’ll punch them.”
That makes my partner giggle, and I revel in the lovely sound.
