Welcome to Monday - Have a Random Tag
Nov. 1st, 2021 05:48 amHello, everyone. I’m
squidgiepdx and today's theme is tags - the more random the better. We all know tags because we use them on our DW/LJ posts, we use them as hashtags on Twitter and Tumblr, and of course you tag your works on AO3 or SquidgeWorld with your tags. So how about we take some of those random tags and leave some prompts to be filled - or maybe fill some prompts that have been left! If you need some help or really want to be random, here's the random tags page on AO3 and here's the random tags page on SquidgeWorld.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Stargate Atlantis, Evan Lorne/David Parrish, "Episode Related"
+ Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams, "Office Sex"
+ The Losers, Jake Jensen/Carlos "Cougar" Alvarez, "Dog Adoption"
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2021 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2021-11-01 12:49 pm (UTC)Fill 1/2: The Shrine, because that's my fave episode
Date: 2021-11-01 09:07 pm (UTC)Evan had been trying to pick up the slack as much as possible, what with his CO so distracted. Fragile, he might’ve said, but not where Colonel Sheppard could hear. It wasn’t the first time Dr. McKay’s life had been in danger, but the way it had taken shape was truly heartbreaking.
There were a million ways to die in the Pegasus galaxy. Brain destroying parasites just made the top ten.
“I’d give anything to hear him yelling in the labs,” Miko confided one day.
The science department was taking it hard, undoubtedly. Dr. McKay was the one they usually counted on for the last-minute saves, the one who’d pulled all their fat out of the fire on more than one occasion. Dr. Zelenka was clearly frazzled, having taken on Dr. McKay’s duties. But he was just as clearly grieving the impending loss of his friend. Not that either one of them would label their relationship as such.
Evan did his best to keep the wheels greased, which was his job as XO. He knew the dynamics within most of the departments and worked with Chuck to keep up a steady supply of the good coffee and the snacks people liked. Happy people were productive people.
Everyone was working overtime to find a cure for Dr. McKay. Even the people who hated him couldn’t stand the new, uncertain, soft-spoken man he’d turned into. He could be a jerk, but he was their jerk.
Once Evan had made sure Colonel Sheppard had been brought a lunch tray, not that he’d necessarily eat any of the food on it, he took his own lunch and David’s to the greenhouse.
David and the other biologists had been working hard to find a natural remedy for the parasite in Dr. McKay’s head. Some of the local plants had proven useful for things like reducing fevers and clearing up blemishes, but nothing they’d tried had helped.
“Come on,” Evan said, nudging David away from his workstation, where he was clipping the leaves off something spiky. “You need to eat.”
David rubbed at his eyes with the heels of his hands. “It’s lunch time?”
“Past. You must be hungry.”
“Now that you mention it –” David’s stomach rumbled, and his lips quirked up in a grin. “Lunch sounds good.”
They went to their usual spot, a patch of green grass under a massive potted fern. The long, dipping fronds made it almost like a secret hideaway. Evan pulled out a couple of wax-wrapped sandwiches, a thermos of fruity almost-apple juice, and cookies.
“So good,” David said with a satisfied sigh. “Thank you.”
“How’s the work coming?” Evan asked.
“Too slowly to be useful. This kind of work can take decades, and Dr. McKay doesn’t have that long.”
“You’re doing the best you can. That counts for something.”
David shrugged one narrow shoulder. “It doesn’t feel like it does.”
Evan couldn’t help wondering what it was like for Dr. McKay, slowing losing all the pieces of himself. It was all anyone could talk about lately. How much of a person’s personality was innate? How much could someone forget about themselves before they became a whole other person? Was it better to know you were losing your mind, or be completely unaware of it?

Date: 2021-11-01 01:45 pm (UTC)Fill: Minhyuk/Dongmin + minor Bin
Date: 2021-11-01 04:42 pm (UTC)When Dongmin poked his head into Bin’s room, with his spartan mattress and pillow, Bin wasn’t there. Minhyuk was, though, sitting comfortably on Bin’s bed and, judging by the sounds on his phone, watching highlights from the latest round of national taekwondo competitions where some of his old friends were competing.
Feeling a little self-conscious even though they’d lived together for almost a decade, Dongmin tugged the coverlet closer around his body. “Where’s Binnie?”
Minhyuk glanced up briefly. “When I got back from my schedule he was asleep in my bed. Didn’t have the heart to wake him.”
Minhyuk’s room was the coolest in the dorm, which he liked, because after Bin he was the second-hottest of them all.
Dongmin bit his lip. “Are you sleeping in here, then?”
“Yeah. I’ll be up early for my schedule tomorrow anyway, so he won’t even notice.” Minhyuk resumed watching the video on his phone. Tinny shouts emitted from it. The corner of Minhyuk’s mouth pulled up in an amused smirk at what was probably a particularly impressive kick.
Dongmin cleared his throat. “Can I sleep with you, then?”
Minhyuk’s head came up sharply. “Me?”
“My room is really cold. I think the heater vent is stuck closed. I couldn’t open it.” Dongmin pouted a little bit, and Minhyuk’s expression softened.
“I just want to snuggle,” Dongmin said. “Don’t get any ideas.”
Minhyuk rolled his eyes. “I won’t actually get any ideas.”
His ‘crush’ on Dongmin was an endless joke, mostly spurred on by the fans, unfortunately for Dongmin. But he patted the space beside him and scooted over, and Dongmin tip-toed across the room and climbed onto the bed, snuggled close. He scooted down and rested his head on Minhyuk’s shoulder.
Minhyuk shut off his phone and set it aside. “You all right, hyung?”
Dongmin nodded. He opened the coverlet and flung it across the both of them so he could include Minhyuk’s warmth in a soft cocoon.
Dongmin closed his eyes, and soon Minhyuk’s perfect warmth lulled him to sleep.
A while later, Dongmin stirred, awakened by soft voices and Minhyuk shifting under him.
“Why didn’t you wake me?” Bin was asking softly.
“You need the rest,” Minhyuk said.
Bin sighed. “You’re only hurting yourself, you know.”
“It’s fine. At least I can have this. I know he’ll never like me back.”
Dongmin stilled, forced himself to keep on breathing deeply.
“Well, don’t wake him. I’ll stay in your bed.”
Soft footsteps padded away.
Dongmin listened to Minhyuk breathe, felt Minhyuk watching him.
Eventually Minhyuk whispered, “Love you, hyung,” and slowly he fell asleep.
Dongmin was awake for a long time after that.
When he woke the next morning, Minhyuk was curled close around him, deliciously warm, protective. Dongmin opened his eyes and looked at Minhyuk’s sleeping face.
He whispered, “Maybe next time, it won’t be just snuggling.”

Date: 2021-11-01 02:22 pm (UTC)FILL: HDM, Lyra Belacqua & Roger Parslow
Date: 2021-11-29 03:42 pm (UTC)The snow falls around her, chilling her to the bone. The cage sits beside her, haunting her like an evil monster while her dear friend lays in her arms, his last breath taken. She cries into the cold night, hugging Roger. Her damp tears allow the pain to flow from her broken heart.
Pan is close beside her, weeping from his lost friend. Never to play chase or laugh, never to share a smile or a cuddle. This journey had been dangerous, and like a fool, Pan thought they would find a happy ending. Tragically, all that remain was jagged scars left from friends lost to them.
He gazes up at Lyra with tears in his eyes, gently nuzzling her, trying to comfort her and carry some of the pain, but his heart is broken as well. Silence. Haunting silence all around them. Nothingness, no life lived to the fullest with joyful chatter or happy giggles. Only the sound of sorrow which is a scream muted by heartbreak.
Lyra presses a kiss to Roger's forehead; his warmth has faded by death. He is so cold, the terror he felt before his life was taken hangs in the air like ash, choking Lyra. She clings to her fallen friend, she remembers the good times they had, laughing and smiling, running with their daemons through the halls of the school, so carefree with vibrant spirit.
Lyra cries in the winter night, everything in her life has gone terribly awry. Her damp tears fall for her dear best friend and their final goodbye.

Date: 2021-11-01 02:41 pm (UTC)FILL: Bucky/Steve
Date: 2021-11-12 05:47 pm (UTC)It makes Steve pause, his cheeks blushing pink. He is not sure what to make of the kiss because Buck doesn’t that a lot in the recent days, but the touch is so caring and gentle almost in a platonic caring way rather than a romantic desire. Seeing his chance to press his luck, Steve wraps his arms around his friend and hugs him, and being so short he nuzzles under Bucky’s chin, snuggling him into his cozy arms.
Bucky doesn’t push him away or scoff at the cuddle. Instead, he hugs Steve tight before letting him go. Steve knows his heart beats only for his best friend, he would like to be more than just friends, but fear of rejections halts him.
So he just enjoys what is, and after a blissful day spent playing in the snow, Steve is still all happy smiles as he and Bucky cuddle up by the fire in their little tiny apartment. He is cozy and warm, still wearing Bucky’s hoodie. Buck keeps an arm around him, and again, Steve is not sure if the way Bucky cares for him is simple kindness or if the way Buck’s arms are wrapped around him to fondly snuggle him is a wish to be much closer.
But he takes what is so devotedly given to him, he leans in and brushes his nose against Bucky’s giving his dear friend an Eskimo kiss as the snow falls outside their cozy apartment.
Every day was a perfect paradise for Steve so long as Bucky was by his side, and he thanks his lucky star for another heavenly day with the man who makes his heart skip a beat.

He swung round, which was a mistake, because Ros, in her turn, grabbed his arms and snapped a pair of handcuffs on him. Then, with the Lucas’ assistance, she tied him to a tree.
“We’ll let your colleague know where to find you,” she said.
Ros and Lucas walked back to the house together.
A young woman came out and held up a cocktail glass to Lucas, calling out, “Come and have a drink with me.”
He shook his head, and Ros linked arms with him. “Sorry, love,” Ros called, “I’ve got work for him to do!”

Date: 2021-11-01 07:02 pm (UTC)“Hmm, let me think,” Much replied. “Well, it’s not Marion, and it’s not Tuck, or Little John.”
“I don’t have time for you to work your way through the whole gang. In fact, I don’t have much time at all.”
“Why didn’t you say so?” Much turned round and kissed Guy, who returned the kiss with equal passion. “I thought you weren’t going to make it until tonight.”
“I shouldn’t be here, but I just slipped out for a few minutes. I didn’t want to wait for a whole day before I could see you again.”
“I’m glad you came. I was trying to work out how I could get to see you.”
They hugged each other before Guy said, “I must go.” He bent down and picked a daisy. “Take care of this token until tonight,” he said, giving Much the daisy.
Much slid the daisy into his pouch and watched until Guy was out of sight. Then he sighed and took the daisy back out again and looked at it lovingly.
