On Wednesdays, it's all about the Titles
Nov. 3rd, 2021 05:45 amHello, everyone. Once again, I’m
squidgiepdx and today's theme is titles. You can take that literally - like the title that someone holds, or you can take it from just about any movie, tv show - the show itself or an episode - to music, plays, or even artwork. Maybe Rodney McKay calls John Sheppard "Kirk" one too many times and John shuts him up with a kiss. Maybe The Losers are on another op and Jensen has Night Watch so Cougar curls up next to him to keep him company. Or maybe Steve finally gets the nerve to walk up to Danny and give him The Kiss. Whatever the case, if it's about titles, today's the day to play!

Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Stargate Atlantis, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay, "Kirk"
+ The Losers, Jake Jensen/Carlos "Cougar" Alvarez, "Night Watch"
+ Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams, "The Kiss"

Date: 2021-11-03 12:49 pm (UTC)Fill 1/2: Evan Lorne/David Parrish
Date: 2021-11-04 12:32 am (UTC)Evan snapped photos with his new digital camera, wanting to capture the moment so he could paint it later. His artistic side had come back to life since being on the island, and he was embracing it.
“So this is the thing?” the guy standing next to him asked.
Evan lowered the camera, strap wrapped around his wrist. “The thing?”
“You know. Where everyone applauds.”
“This is the thing,” he confirmed.
A lot of the people in the square were locals, but there were plenty of tourists standing around too. The guy Evan was talking to was clearly in the latter category. He had zinc oxide smeared on his nose and was wearing a wide-brimmed straw hat. His skinny chicken legs poked out the bottom of his khaki shorts, whiter than a fish belly.
“Gosh, that’s beautiful,” the guy said. “Just like I imagined.”
“First time?” Evan asked, to be polite.
“My plane just got in this afternoon.”
“Welcome to Key West.”
The guy was thin and weedy, fairly unremarkable until he looked at Evan with a wide grin on his face that lit up his eyes. “Thanks!”
Evan suddenly had a newfound respect for thin and weedy.
They stood side-by-side as the sun completed its journey beyond the horizon, and as the last shimmery edge of it disappeared, the gathered crowd applauded. Another crowd would gather the following night to repeat the whole thing, which Evan thought was pretty remarkable.
“Who do you think we’re clapping for?” Tourist Guy asked. “The sun? The earth for spinning? God?”
“I don’t really know,” Evan replied. “All three maybe.”
“Well, I like it. People should take the time to appreciate the world around them more. Applaud a sunset. Smell a rose. Watch a snail make it’s delicate way across the grass.”
He had a dazzling smile and he was interesting. That was a nice combination.
“I’m Evan.”
“David. It’s nice to meet you.”
The crowd was dispersing, and Evan wondered if it would be too forward to ask David to join him for dinner or drinks. Maybe the guy just wanted to enjoy his vacation without being –
“I don’t suppose you can recommend a good place to eat?” David asked.
“Do you like seafood?”
“Why else would anyone come here?”
Evan chuckled. “Fair point.”
They ended up walking a few blocks to the food market on Eaton Street. The fish there was always fresh, and most of it was local caught.
“Do you live here?” David asked.
“Just visiting. Been here about a week.”
The truth was, Evan had recently separated from the Air Force, and he was traveling around trying to figure out what he wanted to do with himself. Key West had been on his bucket list, being one of the early towns to open itself up to the queer community before it was fashionable. He’d already been to San Francisco and Provincetown.
They placed their orders – red snapper sandwich for David, fried conch strips for Evan – and sat at the only empty streetside table. There were a couple of chickens hanging out on the sidewalk, waiting expectantly for edible donations, but thankfully they didn’t get aggressive and fly up on the table, something they were unfortunately well known for.

Date: 2021-11-03 12:57 pm (UTC)Fill 1/2: Radek/Lorne
Date: 2021-11-03 11:46 pm (UTC)Radek looked up briefly. Major Lorne stood beside his workbench holding a couple mugs of coffee.
“It goes,” Radek said. “The data collection is...arduous, to say the least.” He rubbed at his temples absently. Then he looked at the coffee mugs in Lorne’s hands. “I realize it is slightly hypocritical of me to say this, but you shouldn’t drink so much coffee.”
Lorne smiled. “Thanks for the concern, Doc.”
“Also Rodney just stepped out but the device he wanted you to initiate is over there.” Radek nodded at the second workbench Rodney had appropriated for his ongoing experiments.
“I’ll get right on it.” Lorne turned away.
Ten minutes later, Radek looked down and realized that Lorne had left one of the mugs of coffee for him.
“You done with data collection yet?”
Radek felt like sandpaper was grating over his eyeballs every time he blinked. “No, but soon.”
He blinked again, and it was Lorne beside his work bench once more. “What are you doing here?”
“Miko wanted me to try to turn something on for her.”
Radek frowned and looked around. “Where is the kid with the yo-yo? The Marine. Our human lightswitch. Nealson.”
“Off on exercises with the rest of the Marines. He’s a Marine first, after all.” Lorne smiled patiently. “Also, it was chicken curry night. I saved you a share.”
Radek looked down at the little container of chicken and rice, then looked at his watch. “Oh. Dinner time was --”
Relative for everyone, given that Atlantis ran on three rotating shifts of nine hours.
“A couple hours ago for you.” Lorne nudged the container toward Radek. “Dobrou chut’!”
Miko called for Lorne, and he turned away.
Lorne had pretty decent Czech pronunciation. Radek tore open the container and dug into the deliciously spicy chicken and the soft steamed rice. It was delicious.
“Hey, Radek. Wake up. You should go to bed.”
It sounded like Miko.
Radek squeezed his eyes shut tighter and grumbled under his breath. He was tired. He was staying right where he was and sleeping.
“Dammit, Zelenka, this is the lab, not your bedroom,” Rodney snapped.
“As if you’ve never fallen asleep in here,” Miko said.
Their voices faded.
Radek fell deeper into sleep.

Date: 2021-11-03 12:58 pm (UTC)Fill: Adam & Wes Carter, mention of Lucas
Date: 2021-11-04 10:55 am (UTC)“The guy you talk about every day…” Wes waited while Adam snorted. “Yes, of course I do.”
“Well, he’ll be here shortly. I’ve invited him to join us for breakfast. He’s just finished a night shift and I want to be sure he’s had something decent to eat.”
“So that’s why you’re branching out from cereal and toast,” Wes grinned. “But won’t he want to get some sleep?”
“I’m hoping I can persuade him to grab a couple of hours here. I know he’s not sleeping well, so I thought it might help.”
“And then he can stay to lunch? Which explains those posh meats and cheeses.”
“Well yes. Do you mind?”
“Why should I? You’ve got some of those fancy snacks I like, I’m not complaining. And then we distract him a bit, so he ends us having dinner with us. And don’t deny you’ve made your favourite chicken casserole, and I bet there’s a decent bottle of wine around too.”
“Maybe.”
“It’s okay if you want him to stay the night.”
“What?”
“That is your plan, isn’t it? And it’s fine by me.”
Adam shook his head. He couldn’t decide whether he hoped Lucas was spot the plan as quickly as Wes had or not.
As it turned out, Lucas did. And he didn’t have any problems with it either.

Date: 2021-11-03 01:33 pm (UTC)Fill: David Parrish/Evan Lorne + OC
Date: 2021-11-04 03:20 am (UTC)“Very pretty,” David said, squatting down to her level. “Do you want pigtails today?”
“Tails!”
She clambered up on the kitchen chair and waited while David went to the bathroom to get the hairbrush and two elastics. He’d done the same procedure countless times, but somehow one of the pigtails always came out crooked. David was starting to wonder if he shouldn’t get an eye exam.
After hair was shoes. David recommended the patent leather Mary Janes. Daisy countered with pink cowboy boots. As usual, she won.
“Stip-stip, Daddy,” Daisy said, blinking up at him with her big brown eyes.
That was her word for chapstick, which she treated like a tube of lipstick, a sure sign she spent way too much time with her glamorous Auntie Laura. Daisy pursed her little lips and David dabbed some chapstick on them. She carefully blotted with a napkin.
“Okay. Go get Zoomie Bear and we can get in the car.”
Daisy ran for her room, and David knew he had time enough to water the houseplants because she’d get distracted. There were several pots on the ledge behind the kitchen sink, and on shelves and tables all over the rest of the house. Even Daisy had a potted fern in her bedroom.
Evan always joked it was like living in a jungle.
By the time Daisy came back with her flight-suit wearing teddy bear, David had his keys in his hand and was waiting by the door.
“Me go?”
“We go,” David corrected.
He locked up the house, got Daisy strapped into her car seat, and then it was off to the airport. They listened to Evan’s Cat Stevens CD on the drive, Daisy bobbing her head and shaking Zoomie Bear in time to the music. She had much better rhythm than David did.
The traffic got heavier the closer they got, and David got tenser. He didn’t like driving on the highway, especially when his daughter was in the car. His gaze kept darting from the rearview mirror to the side mirrors to the windshield.
“There’s the airport!” he called out when they got off the exit and it came into view.
Daisy let out a high-pitched pterodactyl noise of excitement. David drove around short-term parking until he found a space, and before he could get around to the backseat, Daisy was already half out of her seat.
David carried her across the street and into baggage claim, letting her down once she started wriggling.
“Keep hold of my hand,” David instructed. “I don’t want you getting lost.”
Daisy clung to him tightly. “Daddy here?”
“Soon.”
They took the escalator upstairs, and then back downstairs because the escalator was like a carnival ride for a two-year-old. David let her ride it a few more times before they needed to head upstairs for real.
A small crowd was waiting for the latest plane load of people to disembark and come past the security checkpoint. Some held signs.
“Daddy here?”
“Soon.”
Daisy fidgeted, and David was twitchy with his own nerves. It has been several months since he’d seen his husband, aside from a handful of video chats.
Finally, people started coming from the concourse, carrying bags and pulling suitcases. David had been worried Daisy might not recognize Evan, so he made sure to show her plenty of pictures and home movies. All his hard work paid off, because Daisy spotted Evan before he did.
“Daddy!”
Daisy ran, Zoomie Bear clutched in one hand, and Evan got down on one knee and scooped her into a hug. David followed along more sedately, his eyes already burning with tears.
Evan stood up, Daisy balanced on his hip, and reeled David in for a hug too.
“Daddy home!” Daisy said, grinning hugely.
“Welcome home.” David kissed Evan, and Daisy kissed Evan, and Evan kissed both of them.
“I missed you guys,” Evan said, and he was a little wet around the eyes too.
“Miss you! Love you! Bye-bye!” Daisy said cheerfully.
“No more bye-byes,” Evan said, looking right at David. “I’m home for good this time.”
David closed his eyes and hugged his family, and sent the universe at large his deepest, most sincere thanks.
“Let’s go home,” he said.
