wolyoil: Theme Book Titles
Nov. 29th, 2021 12:40 amHello, everyone. I’m
nagi_schwarz and today's theme is book titles. Prompts can be anything related to the titles of books, be it an individual book in a series or the entire series or a chapter in a book or a novella or a poetry anthology or even textbook and other non-fiction, a book within a book, or even crossovers and fusions with book fandoms.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Stargate Multiverse, any pilot, Skyward (Brandon Sanderson)
+ Trixie Belden, any, The Bungalow Mystery (Carolyn Keene)
+ BBC Robin Hood, Guy of Gisborne, Protector of the Small (Tamora Pierce)
+ The Untamed, Wei Wuxian, Wild Magic (Tamora Pierce)
+ MI-5|Spooks, any, Warbreaker (Brandon Sanderson)
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2021 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2021-11-29 05:52 am (UTC)Fill 1/3: Trixie Belden Mysteries/The Three Investigators, Trixie/Jupiter + Pete + OCs
Date: 2021-11-29 10:10 pm (UTC)The little closet under the stairs was dusty, full of cobwebs and mouse droppings that were hopefully not recent, and it was really cramped. She couldn’t get in there with the full-sized broom, so she was using a hand broom, a dust rag, and a Swiffer duster.
She hated dusting. Always had.
But then Trixie spied something wedged between the studs at the back of the closet. It took some tugging to pull it free, and she wrinkled her nose at the dusty grime that transferred to her hands, but she gave a shout of triumph when it came loose.
“Jupe!” she shouted, backing out of the closet on her hands and knees. “Come see what I found!”
By the time she’d wiped down the rectangular metal box and washed her hands, Jupiter had joined her in the kitchen. There were still moving boxes piled up everywhere, carefully labeled in Jupiter’s steady hand, but the table was clear. Trixie plunked herself down in a chair and examined the box from every angle.
“Where did you find it?” Jupiter asked, sitting next to her. He had a smear of blue paint on his forehead.
“The closet under the stairs. Which is gross, by the way.”
“I can tell.” Jupiter delicately removed a cobweb from Trixie’s curly hair. “So what’s inside?”
“I don’t know yet. I waited for you.”
Sometimes Trixie felt she’d hit the lottery when she met Jupiter Jones. He had the same drive to solve mysteries, to know the unknowable. They’d each even had their own mystery-solving club when they were kids. Sometimes the universe knew exactly what it was doing.
“Any marks or notations on the outside?” Jupiter asked.
“Just some dents and scratches. But there’s definitely something inside, I can feel it sliding around in there.”
“Buried treasure?” he teased.
Trixie stuck her tongue out at him. “If it is, I’m using it to hire a maid.”
She knew it would be different once they had the bungalow cleaned up and painted and filled with all their things. It was their first house together and Trixie wanted it to be perfect.
“Well, don’t keep me in suspense,” Jupiter said. “Open it up and let’s see what we’ve won.”
It didn’t open easily. Trixie and Jupiter had to take turns working at it until they could pry the lid off.
“Wow,” Trixie breathed. “It’s someone’s trinket box!”
She pulled each item out, being very careful with it. There was a pin in the shape of a Christmas tree, fashioned from colorful gemstones that Jupiter said weren’t actually gemstones at all. A birthday card filled out to Georgie from Suze. A dried rose that had mostly crumbled into dust. A ticket stub. A gold cuff bracelet that Jupiter said was real gold. And at the bottom of it all a letter.
Dear Georgie,
I wish things didn’t have to be this way. I want to tell everyone I’m your girlfriend and walk hand-in-hand with you in the park. Maybe someday.
My parents are sending me away to stay with my grandparents in Salt Lake City. I’ll miss you every day we’re apart, even if that winds up being forever.
All my love and more,
Suze
“That’s so sad!” Trixie looked through everything again, hoping to find a date or a surname or something, but there were no additional clues about who Georgie and Suze might be. “And poor Georgie hid this away. I wonder if it was a Romeo and Juliet situation?”
“There’s no way to date this,” Jupiter said, taking the letter and rereading it to himself. “Could be they were from different classes, or even different races. That would’ve been a huge hurdle to overcome if we think this letter is from the fifties or sixties.”
“Do you really think it could be that old?”

“Definitely,” Much replied. “I had wondered what had kept you.” He paused, then added, “Your bag is moving. What have you got in it?”
“Ah!” Guy reached inside the bag and pulled out two tiny kittens.
Much shook his head. “I give up!”

Date: 2021-11-29 06:44 am (UTC)Fill: MX, Jooheon/Wonho + Shownu
Date: 2021-11-29 09:10 pm (UTC)Hoseok didn’t lift his head, buried his face tighter against his knees and tried to swallow down a sob that threatened to escape.
“Hyung, it’s not your fault.” Jooheon’s voice was soft, his footsteps cautious as he crossed the practice room.
“But it is. If I hadn’t been young and desperate, if I hadn’t trusted her as a roommate, if I hadn’t --”
“That’s all in the past.”
Hoseok felt Jooheon’s warmth as Jooheon settled onto the floor beside him.
“That’s not who you are anymore,” Jooheon said.
Hoseok dared to lift his head and peek at his teammate.
Jooheon offered him a small, dimpled smile. “There’s my handsome hyung.”
Hoseok sniffled and wiped his nose with the back of his hand. “I look like garbage, but thanks.” He knew his eyes were red-rimmed and his face puffy from crying. He was a professional, he’d gone out on that stage and absolutely killed it, but it was obvious to anyone with eyes that the anti-fans’ shouts had gotten under his skin, that he’d been crying backstage, that --
“I understand if you want to leave,” Jooheon said.
Hoseok’s throat closed. He’d been thinking just that while he was sitting alone in the darkness. It would be better for his six teammates if he walked away from them, let them get distance from him and the impending media fracas that would follow till all this was resolved.
“We know you’re not a criminal, that you’re not morally bankrupt.” Jooheon patted Hoseok’s arm tentatively. “We know that. But you don’t really believe that, do you? Every mistake you make, you remember, and you carry it on your shoulders, and -- if you need to go, go. We won’t stop being your friends, okay? But if you need a break, take it.”
“Not just a break,” Hoseok said quietly. “I don’t think -- I don’t think I can do this anymore.”
Jooheon was quiet for a moment. Then he said, “I understand, hyung.” He started to stand up.
Hoseok lifted his head and caught Jooheon’s wrist. “Don’t -- I’m not leaving you either, okay? You said you’d be here for me. I’ll be here for you too. Just -- from the sidelines.”
Jooheon nodded. “I understand.” Then he smiled again, bright and dimpled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “I’m going to miss you.”
“I’m not leaving completely.” Hoseok scrambled to his feet. “I just -- I need to be alone. For a while.”
Out of the spotlight. Out of the dorm. Away from everyone and everything.
Jooheon nodded again, and Hoseok realized the mistake in his words, and he cursed himself internally, because he was always doing everything wrong.
“I don’t mean away from you, though.”
Jooheon paused, eyebrows raised.
“You’re different from the others. You always have been.” Hoseok swallowed hard. “You know that, don’t you?
Jooheon tilted his head. “Do I?”
Hoseok tugged Jooheon closer. “You are.”
They looked at each other for a long moment, and then Hoseok didn’t know which one of them moved first, and then they were kissing, kissing and crying and clinging to each other because they were over before they’d begun.
Hyunwoo’s arrival sent them scrambling apart.
He stood in the doorway, expression impassive. “Hoseok-ah, management wants to speak to you.”
Hoseok looked at Jooheon, who sniffled and nodded, and Hoseok said, “All right. I’m going.”
And he walked out of the room.
At the door, he paused and looked back at Jooheon, and Jooheon managed a watery smile before Hyunwoo was there, hugging him awkwardly, and then it was time for Hoseok to face the music.

Date: 2021-11-29 12:50 pm (UTC)The others clustered around Dongmin. Myungjun reached out and checked Dongmin’s pulse.
“I can’t feel anything,” Myungjun whispered.
Tears sprang into Jinwoo’s eyes.
Minhyuk grabbed Dongmin by the shoulders and shook him. “Hyung! Open your eyes!”
Dongmin’s head lolled to the side.
Bin was on his feet, blaster pistol in hand. “Where are you? Get out here! You fix him and you fix him right now or I swear I’ll --”
Dongmin sucked in a great lungful of air and tried to sit up.
“Hyung!” Sanha grabbed his shoulders and steadied him.
Dongmin blinked. “Did we get it? Did they tell us the location of the Golden Bowl? What planet are we on?”
“What’s the last thing you remember?” Myungjun asked gently. His voice was the most steady.
“Getting off our ship on the...Ringa planet?” Dongmin scrubbed a hand over his face. “I feel awful. Jinwoo-hyung, your piloting sucks.”
“I’m sorry,” Jinwoo said, and he was smiling, but his eyes were still wet.
Dongmin really looked at him. “Ah, hyung, don’t cry. I didn’t really mean --”
Bin threw his arms around Dongmin and squeezed him so tight that Dongmin squeaked.
“What’s going on?” Dongmin asked. “Why are you all being so weird? We have to get more intel so we can find this stupid Golden Bowl and end this stupid interplanetary dispute and then maybe the Academy will let us graduate.”
Minhyuk ducked his head. “Hyung,” he said softly. “You died for a moment there.”
It was all his fault. He was the one who’d accidentally picked up the top secret mission dossier instead of their final exam simulation memo. He was the one who’d thrown them all into the middle of an interplanetary dispute and he was the one who --
Dongmin put a hand on Minhyuk’s shoulder. “Hey. It was only for a moment. Right? Was it -- was it me who the ghost possessed?”
Jinwoo nodded, sniffling. They'd suspected Minhyuk of being the one possessed, and he'd been so adamant about defending himself that he hadn't realized it was Dongmin who wasn't himself.
“Did we get the intel we needed?” Dongmin asked.
Sanha nodded.
Dongmin went to push himself to his feet, and all the color drained out of his face as his arms buckled.
Minhyuk caught him, and he and Sanha helped Dongmin to his feet.
“Let’s go,” Dongmin said. He started for the ship. “Wait. Where are we going?”
“To another planet,” Jinwoo said.
“It had better be the last planet.” Myungjun input the code for the rear hatch.
Sanha and Minhyuk guided Dongmin inside, and they strapped into their seats as Jinwoo initiated the launch sequence. While Sanha reviewed the new intel for Dongmin, Minhyuk dug into the pack at his feet for a snack.
“Hyung,” he said softly. “Here.”
Dongmin accepted the little vacuum-packed rice cake with a wan smile, then resumed listening to Sanha.
As long as all of them made it home alive, Minhyuk didn’t care if they graduated. He’d give up his wings if it meant never losing Dongmin again.

Date: 2021-11-29 01:32 pm (UTC)Fill: Sophie + Neal
Date: 2021-11-29 03:07 pm (UTC)“Neal.”
“What’s a criminal like you doing in a place like this?”
“A civilian contractor with the Federal Bureau of Investigations like me is obviously doing serious government work in a place like this.” Neal smiled and raised his drink to Sophie, who looked stunning in an off-the-shoulder pale lavender gown.
She was wearing a hat worthy of Ascot, and the diamonds glittering around her throat and all the way down to her cleavage were real.
“What’s a woman of confidence like you doing in a place like this?” Neal asked.
Sophie’s smile was almost demure, but Neal knew that twinkle in her eye. “A professional art appraiser like myself is obviously here to help a client recover some stolen art.”
Neal arched an eyebrow but sipped his drink to forestall comment. Sophie scanned the room, motions small and nonchalant but gaze alert. Neal followed her gaze and saw the moment she spotted Peter, Jones, Diana, and Mozzie. He also spotted her compatriots -- a young man with longish dark hair whose glasses made him look bookish but did nothing to bely the breadth of his shoulders or the strength in his frame; the dark-skinned man pretending to be facedown in his phone but who was probably doing some very impressive and hacker-y; the light-haired woman who’d just lifted a watch off of a man’s wrist while he examined an ugly sculpture; and the older man with the tweed jacket, who looked professorial. And annoyed at how close Neal was standing to Sophie.
“So you’ve abandoned your old ways,” Neal murmured.
“Hardly. I’m just redirecting my energy. Seems the one who did the abandoning is you.” Sophie’s smile was amused.
“Not in the slightest,” Neal said.
And then the mark, who Neal had been watching out of the corner of his eye, started toward them.
“I don’t remember your name on the guest list,” the man said, looking Sophie up and down.
She was a pro and managed to look flattered instead of disgusted.
Neal slid an arm around her waist, the gesture subtle but noticeably possessive. “You did say it was plus one.”
The mark eyed Neal, then nodded. “You have good taste.”
“Exquisite taste,” Sophie corrected, and the man looked charmed rather than put off.
He drifted away.
“I owe you one,” Sophie said quietly.
Neal smiled. They chatted some more, about nothing, and then he drifted away to speak to one of the mark’s associates.
“You two looked thick as thieves,” Sophie’s jealous compatriot said in a low voice as Neal passed.
Neal said, “There is honor among thieves, you know,” and he winked before he sailed on.

Date: 2021-11-29 08:20 pm (UTC)While he’d been putting on his hanbok in front of the mirror in his cluttered little apartment, he’d thought he looked pretty good. The hanbok was a replica of the deep green one Park Bogum had worn in Love in the Moonlight. It had been Jinwoo’s idea for Myungjun to dress up as a Joseon prince, and Myungjun hadn’t had an excuse to put on a nice hanbok in a while.
Jinwoo was dressed as a Man in Black, complete with a sleek black suit and dark sunglasses and some kind of nerf gun spray-painted silver to look futuristic and high-tech.
“Hyung, they’re ordinary people, same as you and me,” Jinwoo said, but he was also keeping his voice low.
“No, we’re ordinary people,” Myungjun said. “I’m an architect and you’re a photojournalist. Moon Bin and Yoon Sanha literally just burned up the dance floor two seconds ago, and they’re done up like zombies. Zombies shouldn’t be hot. No one thirsts over zombies. But that guy over there dressed as Snow White just dumped a glass of water on himself to cool off.”
“I think he lost a bet,” Jinwoo said mildly.
“And then there’s Cha Eunwoo. Don’t get me started on Cha Eunwoo, the Nation’s It Boy and Nation’s Boyfriend and Nation’s Son-in-law all rolled into one. My grandmother would come back from the dead and divorce my grandfather just to marry Cha Eunwoo, and my grandmother died of broken heart syndrome like three days after my grandfather did.” Myungjun continued hovering just behind Jinwoo, staring at the object of his observations.
Cha Eunwoo was dressed, improbably, as a furry pink bunny. He should have looked childish and stupid. Instead he looked beautiful and delicate and a little coquettish as he shook his head to make the bunny ears on his headband wiggle, much to the delight of everyone close to him.
“His name is Lee Dongmin, actually,” Jinwoo said. “Cha Eunwoo is just a stage name.”
“We have to get out of here,” Myungjun hissed. “Before someone throws us out. Clearly we’re not meant to be here. Is that -- is that the lead singer of NCT?”
“Ah, his older brother and Dongmin used to take acting classes together,” Jinwoo said.
Myungjun tugged on his arm. “Let’s go. Before we have to actually talk to any of these people -- wait.”
And then a young man stepped up beside Eunwoo. He wore an all-black hanbok and carried a sword at one hip. Instead of wearing his hair up in a traditional topknot, his hair was swept up in a high ponytail, bangs half obscuring his face, but even from the corner Myungjun could see that he had high cheekbones and piercing dark eyes.
“Who’s that? He looks like the sexiest historical drama assassin ever. He can run me through with his sword any time.” Myungjun smiled dreamily, imagined being pressed up against a lean, hard body.
“Hyung!” Jinwoo swatted him on the shoulder.
“I didn’t mean it like that,” Myungjun protested reflexively. “Well, not right when I said it, but now that you mention it --”
He cut himself off when Moon Bin, Yoon Sanha, Cha Eunwoo-Lee Dongmin, and that ridiculously handsome man with the sword headed their way.
“Park Jinwoo-sunbae.” Cha Eunwoo-Lee Dongmin favored Jinwoo with his famously sweet crinkle-eyed smile. “Long time no see.”

Date: 2021-11-29 01:55 pm (UTC)Fill 1/2: Astro Cowboy Bebop AU, Jinjin/Eunwoo
Date: 2021-11-30 03:38 am (UTC)The man standing in front of Jinwoo, hands raised, was wearing an impeccably-cut suit. His shirt was so white it glowed, and beneath the loosened tie it was unbuttoned a bit too much for propriety, but then Jinwoo knew that this guy -- one Cha Eunwoo, wanted by the police on two planets and four different satellites -- used his stunning good looks as one of his primary weapons.
And he was stunning.
He was also dangerous. Even though he hadn’t killed anyone, he’d talked his way into some of the scariest syndicate dens and billionaire homes, and he’d walked out with everything from the cash box to the family jewels to seeds for a plant that were the basis of a very rare, very expensive drug. He didn’t hesitate to pick locks, steal weapons, drop bombs, and lace things with minor poisons to get his jobs done.
And he was worth a whopping eight million woolongs.
“Just a humble bounty hunter,” Jinwoo said, his aim with his pistol unwavering.
Where the hell was the rest of the crew?
Moon Bin was damn hot-headed, and he’d gotten wind of his old flame, Minhyuk or Minjae or Mingyu or something, and gone off running, because Bin and his lover had both been tangled up in the syndicate, and it had left Bin nearly dead and -- worse -- broken-hearted. Chances of Bin coming to Jinwoo’s aid weren’t great.
But what about Myungjun, the wild child-like hacker, and his annoying super-genius cat Kkiyoong, or maybe even Sanha, the cute little grifter who’d stab a man before he’d kiss him.
Sanha was supposed to be on standby in his starship.
But Jinwoo couldn’t reach for his radio to find out where the rest of the crew of the Future Pop was.
Cha Eunwoo tilted his head, showing off the long, pale line of his neck. “So you’re a cowboy. But you talk like a cop.”
Jinwoo had done a long stint with the ISSP before he’d been cut from the force -- and had his arm cut off.
“Just being polite. If you’ll come with me, Cha Eunwoo-ssi, I’ll make sure you’re delivered to the Ganymede Police unharmed.” Jinwoo still had a couple friends on the force who’d make sure the deductions from the bounty weren’t too exorbitant.
“He used to be a cop,” Sanha said, appearing behind Cha Eunwoo, pistol at the ready.
Cha Eunwoo arched an eyebrow. “Now, there’s an interesting story. Tell you what, cowboy cop, if you save me from the Ganymede Police, I’ll cut you in on a much bigger bounty.”
“You’re not a bounty hunter,” Jinwoo said.
Sanha said, “I can shoot him in the leg. That way he’ll still be able to answer questions at the police station.”
Jinwoo sighed. “For the last time, leg shots are about on par with center mass shots on fatality rates. Have you never heard of the femoral artery?”
Cha Eunwoo said, “I know where the Book of All Stars is.”
Jinwoo raised his eyebrows. Sanha nearly dropped his gun. The Book of All Stars was worth an easy fifty million woolongs, if it was returned to its rightful owner, who was allegedly one Dr. Lee Dongyoung, the creator of the space gates.
It was Myungjun who said, over the radio, “There are no physical copies of the Book of All Stars. He’s lying.”
Cha Eunwoo reached up and tugged the collar of his shirt aside further, revealing a fine tracery of ink on his skin. His tattoos weren’t ordinary patterns, though. They were words.
The words were in his skin.
As Jinwoo watched, the ink moved.
Cha Eunwoo said, “I was holding the book when the space gate exploded.”
Jinwoo remembered another space gate explosion victim he’d encountered, a boy who hadn’t aged for three decades, a boy who’d played beautiful harmonica blues.
Jinwoo nodded at Sanha. “All right. It’s a deal.”
Sanha pounced on Cha Eunwoo and flipped him to the ground.
Cha Eunwoo tried to struggle, but then Kkiyoong was in the fray, claws out, yowling and scratching till Cha Eunwoo subsided.

Date: 2021-11-29 08:06 pm (UTC)Wham! It bounced a little but it was too late. His leg was trapped and he wasn't going anywhere. He was abstractly aware there wasn't any pain. Or too much pain. He wasn't sure which.
People moved around him. Loud. Demanding. Pleading. It was a cacophony of sounds that made no sense.
He knew he was losing too much blood. The truck loomed above him, an unmovable object. Light dimmed...
"Hey!" A hand shook him. "Wake up!"
Buck became aware. He blinked and didn't know where he was.
"Buck!" That was a command. He opened his eyes.
Eddie! He lunged for Eddie and wrapped his arms tightly about him. He panted.
"It's okay," Eddie said softly, rubbing a warm hand down his spine. "I'm here."
"You weren't there..." Buck whimpered.
"I'm here now," Eddie said firmly.
"Bad dream. You weren't there."
"I'll always be here," Eddie whispered.
"Dreamt about the truck. My leg. I didn't make it without you."
Eddie drew Buck in for a kiss. "I'll always be here."
