Date: 2021-12-04 12:35 pm (UTC)FILL: 9-1-1, Post 3x2.
Date: 2021-12-04 03:55 pm (UTC)Christopher is already up and at ‘em, and Eddie would be lying if he said his heart as tap dancing in his chest because his son is giggling and smiling brightly, and even if Eddie is feeling a bit overwhelmed by too many bad days in the recent weeks, his son—even after surviving a tsunami, just acts like it’s another perfectly glorious sunny day. Like he didn’t just almost drown and loose his life, as if death never tried to snatch him away from his family and friends.
The pain is... less today, Christopher almost out races him with getting dressed brushing his teeth, and Eddie is torn between being worried and exhilarated. He fears his son will rush himself into a fall and get hurt, but the young boy just holds tight to his crutches and goes on about his day, excitedly reminding Eddie, “Hurry up, dad, Buck is waiting for us!”
Today is a good day to have a great day.
The pain in Christopher’s legs is lacking, and even though it will eventually return, the young boy doesn’t let his disability stop him. Eddie doesn’t know how Christopher shows such bravery. But when his son, even wobbly on his crutches, quickly scampers over to him and leaps into his arms, hugging him tightly and giggling delightfully, Eddie couldn’t ask for a better way to start the day.
They make it to Buck’s, and even after spending thirty minutes stuck in traffic from an accident that moved at a snail’s pace getting cleaned up, Christopher is still smiling. Buck is a bit weary when he opens the door to find Eddie and Chris, he smiles but the grin doesn’t make his eyes sparkle. He is still on edge to be around Chris after enduring a deadly life or death situation, but Christopher just walks to him and hugs his little arms around his waist and says “Hey Buck!” and Buck smiles a truly happy smile for the first time in a week since the horrifying tsunami.
People often say that the best way to start the day is with a smile, but Buck is not sure he can do that. He almost lost his best friends son and how can Eddie trust him with Christopher, and how can Christopher not hate him for not protecting him?
Christopher is a child, Buck was his guardian; Buck never should have allowed them to be separated. But Christopher doesn’t think like that. Even as he hugs his dad goodbye for the work day and he sits down on the cotch, setting his crutches aside, he giggles as he watches cartoons.
‘You saved him, that’s how he remembers it.’
Eddie’s words couldn’t be truer. Even when they were sitting on top the fire tuck with the watcher rushing all around them, the young boy with his legs on fire and aching with pain, he never complained, never cried. He just reminded Buck, “You just keep swimming, like Dory.”
Buck sits beside Christopher, and the little boy, still all giggles and happy grins—still swimming, just like dory—doesn’t let his pain stop him from living his life to the fullest. He wraps his arms around Buck and hugs him tight, and Buck allows his heart to melt and he embrace Christopher tightly, smiling for the first time in a week.
