Date: 2023-07-30 10:56 pm (UTC)Hannibal had committed the most terrible sin of all—he called the newest member of Will's pack, Ruby ugly. Hell hath no furry like a proud papa bear, and God help anyone who stupidly insults his fur babies. Will had flown into such a tizzy that he shoved Hannibal out of the house and had not spoken to him in three days.
In Hannibal's defense, he meant it as a playful joke, as in, “She is so ugly she is cute.” She was hairless, except for a tuft of white fluff on her head. She was blind, so her eyes were pure white, and she had no teeth. Ruby was an ugly gremlin, and Hannibal had called her such, offending Will to the fullest. Will, being such an overly devoted dog dad, wanted nothing to do with the idiot who so foolishly insulted his beloved dogs.
Hannibal knew just the trick to get back into Will's good graces. Knocking on the door with the bouquet hidden behind his back, Hannibal hears the pack howl and bark to let their dad know they have a visitor. Will flings the door open, clearly still upset by the fumes of his soft huffing. “What do you want?” His babies have all gathered around him; they like this man. He always brings them yummy treats.
This was not the hill Hannibal wanted to die on, so he swallowed his pride. “I wanted to say I'm sorry. I love you, and the fur babies. Please forgive me.” He pulls the bacon bouquet from behind his back, offering it to Will with a soft smile he hopes will make him give in.
The dogs whine and lick their lips, sniffing the air that smells like yummy bacon. Will instantly softens; he would be lying if he said he didn't really miss Hannibal. Even if he was upset at Hannibal, he was close to throwing in the towel: Hannibal just beat him to it. But it wasn't he who needed an apology.
“If you're really sorry, then go apologize to Ruby.”
It was below Hannibal to apologize to a mutt, but again, if that kept him in his beloved's good graces, then so be it. He steps inside and finds the mutt curled up in her bed. She cannot see him, but her nose works perfectly. Ruby wags her tail and wiggles a little as he kneels down. Hannibal doesn't look behind him, but he hears the soft crunch of bacon and knows Will is standing there watching him, waiting for him to say he is sorry while nibbling on juicy bacon.
There's no going back now. He steels himself and gently scratches Ruby's ear. “Ruby, I am terribly sorry I was so rude. Can you forgive me?”
The little dog woofs and licks his hand, which he wishes she hadn't slobbered on him, but she wags her tail in delight to show no hard feelings. Rising to his feet, Hannibal turns to see Will chowing down on the bacon bouquet; he even sneaks the puppy pack a few bites. “Does this mean you forgive me as well?”
Licking his lips, Will smirks. “Only if you come over here and kiss me. The fight is not over until we kiss and makeup.”
Hannibal gladly pulls his lover into his arms and kisses him, unable to hide his smile when he tastes the bacon on Will's soft, pink lips.
