Ease into the week with some drabbles
Jun. 12th, 2022 11:00 pmHey folks, I’m
canonisrelative and the theme for this fine Monday is Drabbles. Prompts can be anything you like but fills should be 100 words (or multiples of).
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ MCU, Natasha Romanoff (+/Clint Barton), Dreaming about Budapest
+ MASH, Father Mulcahy, Prayers.
+ Any, Any, daemon AU
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2022 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2022-06-13 09:13 pm (UTC)Michelle blinks. “Cho smiles.”
Wylie raises an eloquent eyebrow. “Maybe at you.”
Michelle’s cheeks heat as the newbie’s head snaps towards her, one and one making two. Things only gets worse as Cho picks that moment to walk by. He glances in their direction and as his eyes light on Michelle, his lips turn up in an almost imperceptible smile.
Which, thanks to Wylie, they’re all looking for and it’s impossible to miss.
“Told you,” Wylie grins.
Michelle’s cheeks are scarlet, but she’s smiling too.

Date: 2022-06-14 05:44 pm (UTC)“Uncle Rafa said a bad word.” Dark, serious eyes looked to Olivia who looked like she was having trouble keeping a straight face.
“He sure did.”
Her voice was mild and Rafa grimaced as he stooped to pick up a tiny piece of plastic.
“In my defence,” he said, “these things are a menace.”
“That’s why we don’t walk around with bare feet, right, Noah?” Olivia ruffled the boy’s hair as Rafa placed the Lego back on the table.
“Don’t ever let him watch ‘Home Alone’,” he muttered.
Olivia’s laugh was enough to make him forget about his sore foot.

Date: 2022-06-13 03:07 pm (UTC)What I Want to Say, Steve Harrington + Billy Hargrove (Stranger Things) -- part 1
Date: 2022-11-06 02:38 pm (UTC)It was a basic detail to notice. A mere fact literally carved into stone.
Sure, the date was soon -- very soon, alarmingly soon -- but it was stupid how much Steve thought about it.
Or maybe not stupid -- sad. Depressing as shit, really.
Because what the hell was he supposed to do with the knowledge of a dead guy's birthday? A birthday he didn't know, didn't care to ask about, when the jerk was alive?
That... wasn't fair. To Billy, who... Well, who knows what he would've done, if he knew that Steve knew his birthday. Steve supposed his reaction would depend on what Steve did with the information. What he did to cel--
None of it was fair.
Steve still couldn't ignore it, though. The thought of that day going by, without anyone... Wait. Surely someone else knew. Someone else cared. Someone in Hawkins and somehow alive in Hawkins. Right?
But the odds were telling Steve that particular number of people was extremely low.
There had been a lot of eighteenth birthday parties Steve's senior year, but he can't remember hearing about one for Billy specifically.
Steve probably wouldn't have gone last year. But this year, now? Now he wishes he had the option to go.
There would be no party for Billy. No getting older, or getting more mature. No learning how to wear a shirt.
No good bye and good riddance to that asshole of a dad. Yeah, Steve knew about that.
No glorious return to beaches and waves. Yeah, Steve knew about that, too.
What Steve didn't know was anything important about Billy directly from Billy himself.
Only stupid shit he sometimes deigned to share in a manner so casual that he could have been joking.
Like, did he really love pineapple on pizza, or was he just trying to gross out everyone at the lunch table? Or maybe he just liked to scare poor Indiana kids with tales from the weirdo central that was California?
Who. Fucking. Knew.
Well, there were a couple of people Steve could ask. Not the jerk who left town, of course. But how to ask about deeply personal and private information, about memories of a deceased family member, when Steve was just some dude, some curious outsider... That was super awkward, to put it lightly.
So. Here Steve was, staring down the colorful plants in the shop like they were silently judging him. He figured the florist was annoyed with how long he paced back and forth, until it turned out that she was actually the most patient person Steve has ever met.
Also, she knew her stuff. And in retrospect, she was probably used to indecisive customers who were ready to find any excuse to walk right back out of the shop, empty-handed. Steve felt like he'd learned more about flowers in twenty minutes than he knew in his entire life.
He ended up buying two small flower arrangements that the florist put together on the spot for him.
The one that was more yellow and white and a little pink and green? He left by the Mayfield-Hargrove front door when he knew they were at work and at school. He didn't ask for anything to be written on the card except a basic condolences message. No name.
He was pleased (and honestly, his throat got a little tight) to see a couple of cards already there, one with fresh wildflowers taped to the envelope.
When he got to the cemetery, though, Steve had to go back to his car for a bag he could use for the dead flower remains he found, not to mention some leaf litter and cut grass that hadn't blown away. No weeds or anything, but...
What I Want to Say, Steve Harrington + Billy Hargrove (Stranger Things) -- part 2 (end)
Date: 2022-11-06 02:41 pm (UTC)Steve forced himself to stop comparing, to only look at the name and dates and message in the smooth clean stone in front of him. He took a deep breath, his eyes slipping closed briefly, and let it go.
He finally said hey to Billy. He lay the flowers across the front. He didn't bring a vase. He knew it was fine, though.
He finally tried to wish Billy a happy birthday. He tried, but his mouth, his throat, refused.
He shifted where he sat in the short grass and dry dirt. He'd settled to the side, between graves, without thinking about it. A strange and strangled laugh almost escaped him at the thought of sitting cross-legged on Billy's head.
He stopped his thoughts short of remembering the first and last time he'd been here. An involuntary reaction ran through him, however, like a shiver and vertigo at once.
He swallowed down the sick feeling and breathed harshly through his nose. He relaxed his face, his shoulders, his hands. He took another deep breath and tried again.
Steve told Billy that he was thinking of him today. That he thought of him sometimes.
That Billy used to make appearances in his nightmares, but those were all before last July. That he could imagine Billy rolling his eyes but probably smirking at his lame joke.
That Steve thought fruit was a dumb topping for pizza. That he might have to try it one day just to come back here and tell Billy I told you so. That, if it meant he was right, Steve would gladly look like he'd lost his mind in the middle of a cemetery.
That maybe, the next time Steve visited him, he'd bring Billy a shot of that bourbon he hogged all to himself at that one party. Steve had heard about people doing stuff like that at graves. That they share a drink or two.
Then Steve stood, brushed off his jeans, and stepped back a few steps.
He didn't feel lighter -- he didn't really confess anything, just kinda sorta hung out, chatted -- but something inside of him felt more settled. Steadier. Like how the flowers added color to the gray, if that made any sense.
Steve read the headstone one more time, nodding to it. Then he turned on his heel and carefully walked back down the hill to his car.
Only when he got home did Steve realize that he hadn't told Billy when his own birthday was.
Oh well. He could bring it up another time. It was still a ways off, anyway.

Final Fantasy XII, Basch (PRELUDE SPOILER)
Date: 2025-08-10 03:43 pm (UTC)-----
“Hold the Captain down!” one of the imperial soldiers screamed. Basch had no idea how many hands were on him, but he felt the blow to the back of his knee even through his near berserked state. He and his team were surrounded, Vossler was no where to be found, and his heart threatened to break through his ribcage at the thought of the ambush the young Reks would run into if he didn’t manage to get up off the ground.
“We have him, Your Honor!” he heard, and when Basch looked up, the man standing before him was himself.
