[personal profile] squidgiepdx posting in [community profile] comment_fic
Hello, everyone. I’m [livejournal.com profile] squidgiepdx and today's theme is fluff. Yes, fluff - you know it, you love it. Something so teeth-rotting sweet that you just can't help but ask for more. Maybe Cougar calls Jake "Querido" and it melts Jake's heart. Maybe Sheppard arranges for Lorne to take David Parrish out, Parrish thinking it's an off-world mission but it's really a date. Or maybe Sherlock finally realizes that John's love-language is service when John is taking care of him. Whatever it is, if it's fluff, today's the day to prompt and fill!

Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.

Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt

Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Stargate Atlantis, Lorne/Parrish, Planning the perfect date
+ Sherlock (BBC), Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Taking care of people is John's love language
+ The Losers, Jake Jensen/Carlos "Cougar" Alvarez, Cougar calling Jake "Querido" (which translates to 'dear')

We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2023 collection. See further notes on this new option here.

Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.

While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Harry Pearce walked onto the Grid and immediately saw the far wall decorated with bunting, which had clearly been repurposed from a previous event as it now said, ‘Werewolf Appreciation Day’. Looking towards Ros he raised an eyebrow.

“It seemed appropriate to show our werewolf how much we appreciate all he does for the team,” she said. “And now you’re here we can get on with the presentation. I’ve written you a speech.”

Harry’s second eyebrow shot up to join the first, but they both descended as he read the words Ros had written.

He clapped his hands and, once he had everyone’s attention, said, “On behalf of the whole team I am delighted to present you with this gift of our appreciation.”

Tariq carried a cardboard box forward. The werewolf shoved his nose under the flap and opened the box, before shoving his head inside. He removed his head and gave a yip of pleasure. Tariq knelt down and took the present out of the box, to reveal a brand new, specially adapted, travel bed.

“Very nice,” Harry said. “Am I supposed to make a contribution or simply sign the expenses form?”

“A signature will do,” Ros grinned.

With Sheppard under the weather and Rodney tending to him (though he would never admit it; he was the world’s fussiest nursemaid when his precious John was ill) Lorne was running the senior command staff meeting. Radek probably should have been paying closer attention, but Lorne, bless his kind heart, sometimes let the scientists run a little roughshod over him to make up for the fact that Rodney usually shouted them down or talked over them to keep them on task (again for his precious John, though if pressed Rodney would say it was because his time was too valuable to waste on bureaucracy).

Radek was ostensibly sitting in for Rodney, but they’d drifted away from the agenda about ten minutes ago, which was nine minutes longer than Radek’s attention span this morning, which was short on account of sleep deprivation and coffee rationing till either the Daedalus showed up with a new supply or the botanists’ harvest of Pegasus-coffee came through.

Someone nudged Radek in the ankle none too gently, and he forced himself to sit up straighter. Across the conference room table, Miko shot him a pointed look. He inclined his head a fraction in apology. Then he tried to tune back in.

“ — Which is why the engineers should prioritize the construction of the bean roaster,” Parrish was saying. “As soon as that’s made, we can start roasting our Pegasus Native Beans and have freshly-roasted and freshly-ground coffee round-the-clock, as long as we manage our resources wisely.”

“So still coffee rationing?” Captain Cadman asked.

“Once a supplementary supply from Earth arrives, rationing will be over. Now that we know that the harvest is successful, we can expand our operations to an entire greenhouse and stagger planting and harvests —”

Radek tuned out again, doodling cartoon kolaches in the margin of his agenda, the little pastries making faces and yawning and snoring because of how boring it all was. His cartoon kolaches were friends with Miko’s cartoon steambuns and mochi cakes.

She appeared to be industriously taking notes, but Radek knew better. Her steambuns and mochi cakes were probably having a video game tournament.

After some more back-and-forth between Cadman and Parrish, Lorne spoke again, which hopefully meant they could get things back on track. “Sure thing, studmuffin.”

Radek blinked and looked at Lorne, who paused, looking wrong-footed.

Parrish was blushing bright red from the collar of his shirt to the tips of his ears.

Miko attempted to smother a giggle.

Lorne cleared his throat. “I mean, yes, Dr. Parrish. The engineers will prioritize construction of the coffee bean roaster. Now, onto the next item.”

Cadman cleared her throat. “About converting a section of Pier Four into an exterior obstacle course for the Marines.”

“Go on, Captain.”

“Not gonna call me studmuffin?”

“I’ll defer to Dr. Beckett on that one, thank you,” Lorne said, with deliberate calm.

Cadman smirked, and then the meeting went on.

“Baby bunnies,” Ianto said with a long-suffering sigh. “This is NOT what I signed up for.”

“It was sort of inevitable though,” Tosh pointed out. “I mean, when we rounded them up they were certainly getting… busy.”

“Seventeen rabbits was bad enough, and we segregated them according to gender as soon as we got them back here, but now we have three litters of babies.” Ianto sighed again, running both hands through his hair. “The number of rabbits has practically doubled overnight! I know rabbits are legendary for being fast and prolific breeders, but I didn’t realise they’d be this fast.”

“If it’s any comfort, they were probably already pregnant when they arrived.”

“It’s not. It just means this is only the first wave of babies. We’ve got a whole lot more to look forward to when the other females start producing offspring.” Slumping against the Perspex front of the cell housing the female rabbits, Ianto gave his best friend a woeful look. “Seventeen rabbits to start with, and of those, only five were male. We could still have nine pregnant females.”

It might not have been quite so bad if Torchwood could have palmed the new arrivals off on someone else, but like with anything that came through the Rift, they were saturated with Rift energy, so here they had to stay until the levels were undetectable. That meant approximately eight weeks, by which time the population explosion was going to be a lot worse.

“How many babies so far?” he asked Tosh wearily. They hadn’t actually seen the babies, disturbing the mothers wouldn’t be a good idea at such an early stage, but their presence was still detectable.

Tosh tapped away at her laptop for a moment, accessing the sensors in the cells and counting heat signatures in the nests the three nursing mothers had built deep in the abundant straw Ianto had provided as bedding.

“Five in the first two litters, six in the last one.”

“Sixteen new bunny lives.” Ianto shook his head. “And I thought finding homes for seventeen adult rabbits would be difficult enough. Now we potentially have thirty-three, and they’ve only been here a week. If all the other females are pregnant…” He trailed off. “We should probably move some of the females to other cells; it’s going to get a bit overcrowded in there before long.”

“Isn’t it gorgeous,” Jo said. She held the rabbit close and rubbed her face in its fluffy fur. “I’m not surprised it’s valuable.”

“I agree,” Ros said. “But do you think you could put it down for ten minutes and go and pick up some sandwiches. There’s no way we’re going to get a lunch break.”

Somewhat reluctantly, Jo put the rabbit back in its box, but not before promising to give it another cuddle as soon as she got back. Ros returned to her reports and failed to see Lucas take the box and put it in Harry’s office.

A few minutes later Harry returned. Ros waved a hand at him but didn’t raise her eyes. He went into his office and then hurtled out again rapidly.

He looked round the Grid and said urgently, “Where’s Jo?”

“It’s a long story,” Lucas began, “but you know how fluffy she can be sometimes, well, she’s become rather fluffier now.”

The effect was rather spoiled by Jo returning at that moment, carrying a bag of sandwiches.

Harry glared at Lucas and said, “Just for that, Lucas North, I am feeding your sandwich to the rabbit.”

Rick knows that a bar is no place for a baby, much less a newborn, much less his newborn. However, he thinks this might just be one of those times where it's just about permissible. For one thing, Suzy has just come home from the hospital and is in dire need of a decent meal - the La Mariana kitchen will surely provide. For another, it's lunchtime, so the place is packed with tourists and families enjoying a midday meal, a break in their day's activities. Joy isn't even the only infant in the place, although she's by far the youngest.

And perhaps most importantly? Joy's got about half a dozen aunties and uncles all itching to hold her and make sure that she's taken care of, not crying, not disturbing the other patrons.

Rick is deep in conversation with Joy's Uncle Gordon, finding out the latest on his attempts to get his badge back, congratulating him on the decision that he's made to fight for the job he loves. He's also hoping to get some dad pointers - he's seen Gordon with Dennis, knows what a good job he's done - but after a few minutes, he realises that something over his shoulder has caught Gordon's attention and the other man isn't even pretending to listen to what Rick is saying.

Rick's a little miffed by that, he's not going to lie, but when he turns his head to follow Gordon's gaze, he sees something very interesting. Suzy is sitting over there, deep in conversation with Kumu and Juliet and to her immediate left, holding Joy and with only eyes for her, is Noelani. There's a beaming smile on the medical examiner's face as she coos at the baby, her eyes shining with happiness and as Rick watches, she lifts her head, laughing at something Kumu has just said before looking back down to Joy again.

Gordon is still staring at Noelani when Rick's gaze swings back to him, the tiniest of smiles playing around the edges of his lips. He only snaps back to Rick when Rick says his name, drawing out the syllables in a way guaranteed to get his attention. "Is there something you want to tell me?" Rick asks, not even trying to keep the teasing tone out of his voice, or the smile off his face.

Gordon's face is instantly transformed into a mask of neutrality. "No." The word is firm, final. Rick doesn't believe a word of it.

"If you say so," he says in a sing song voice and Gordon opens his mouth to reply, then seems to think better of his, gaze moving back over Gordon's shoulder, a tinge of pink appearing high on his cheeks.

"Shut up," he finally mutters and, for once, Rick does as he's told.

any, any (or any/any), cold night with big fluffy blankets
From: [identity profile] brumeier.livejournal.com
Jupiter had lived his whole life in Southern California. There had been snow maybe three times in the last twenty years, and it hadn’t amounted to much – just a light dusting that was soon gone.

Nothing could have prepared him for a New York blizzard. The wind was howling around Trixie’s childhood home, and the only thing to see through the windows was driving snow. The power had gone out that morning, so they were making use of safety candles and the fireplace.

“I was hoping you’d miss the storm,” Trixie’s mother Helen said. She’d made a pile of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for them to eat for lunch, and already had a pot of soup bubbling away in the fireplace.

“Well, Trixie did promise me snow,” Jupiter replied.

The fire was nice, but it wasn’t keeping the room as warm as it probably could. Crabapple Farm was old, and there were plenty of gaps and chinks for the cold air to slip in through. Helen and Peter had pulled the curtains in an effort to block some of the cold from seeping through the windows, which clearly weren’t double glazed.

“Well, snow we’ve got,” Peter said. He and Helen were ensconced in their side-by-side recliners, bundled up in sweaters and thick socks. “Hopefully the power will be back before dark. I don’t want to overuse the generator.”

He’d already explained that the generator was to be used sparingly, because they didn’t know how long the power outage was going to last. Pete’s plan was to turn it on every four hours solely to make sure the pipes didn’t freeze.

There were buckets of water in the bathrooms to facilitate manually flushing the toilets, and that was roughing it a bit more than Jupiter was comfortable with.

“Here we go!” Trixie came back downstairs with an armful of fluffy fleece blankets. She was wearing a knit cap pulled over her ears and fingerless gloves. “We need to insulate your thin California blood against the cold.”

She dropped down next to Jupiter on the couch and put one of the blankets across their laps, and the other around their shoulders. She snuggled in close, and that was Jupiter’s favorite source of heat.

“What’s the longest you ever went without power?” Jupiter asked.

“Eight days,” Helen replied. “After that hurricane went through. Thankfully that happened in the spring, so we didn’t have to worry about the pipes.”

“Mart and I went to the firehouse every day to get dry ice for the fridge,” Trixie said.

Peter frowned. “Eight days of sponge baths, that’s what I remember.”

“It wasn’t all bad, Daddy. We played a lot of Gin Rummy, and told stories, and had barbecue every night for dinner.”

Eight days without power sounded very stressful to Jupiter, but he supposed the Beldens would feel the same if they came out to LA and experienced an earthquake. It was interesting, the things people could get used to.

One thing Jupiter could get used to was cuddling up with Trixie in front of a crackling fire, blankets creating a little fort around them as the smell of chicken soup started to hang in the air. It was a type of coziness he was unfamiliar with but wouldn’t mind experiencing more often.

“It’s gonna be a two dog night,” Peter said. “Almost makes me miss Reddy.”

“A two dog night?”

“That’s how many dogs you’d need on your bed to stay warm,” Helen explained. “We only ever had Reddy, and he spent most nights in with Bobby.”

“That’s why we had four kids,” Peter said with a wink.

Helen swatted him on the arm, but she was laughing, and so was Trixie. Jupiter pulled Trixie just a little closer and pressed a discrete kiss just over her ear. He was lucky that his future in-laws were such nice people. They were clearly still very much in love with each other, and that was a life goal to strive for.

Maybe, every once in a while, Jupiter and Trixie could crank the air conditioning back home, cuddle up under thick, fluffy blankets, and help keep each other warm.
