Friday: The Letter T
Jul. 7th, 2023 08:38 am'sup, y'all. I’m
tigriswolf and today's theme is the Letter T. Prompts can be anything to do with the letter: characters whose names start with the letter, words beginning with the letter, etc. Now, let's be creative, yeah? No using "the" to sneak a title in.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and the fandom's full name
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above-mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ author's choice, author's choice, "They've thrown out the throne!"
+ Fast & Furious, Shaw brothers vs Toretto crew, to threaten
+ author's choice, author's choice, what is the truth but a rusted lie?
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2023 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? You can use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the use of LJ's advanced search options is available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching in the future.

Date: 2023-07-13 01:35 pm (UTC)Everything had hurt, every inch of his body had been screaming with agony, and so cold. Even the breath of a small breeze had seemed to grate against his bare skin like coarse sandpaper against open wounds.
His first encounter in the human world had done nothing to reduce his pain. He’d fought, because that was what his instincts told him to do, and he’d been rewarded with brutal punches and kicks, until the pain and his own weakness combined to render him unconscious. When he’d awoken, he’d once again been lying on the cold, hard stone floor, near where he’d found himself when he’d first returned, but this time he’d been shackled in chains, and not alone.
He hadn’t recognised Buffy at that point, she’d merely been another source of pain, the one responsible for the chains and the metal bands that dug into his wrists. He’d crouched, hunched over, shivering, only the soles of his feet in contact with the icy chill of the bare stone, waiting for the torture to begin again, waiting poised to defend himself. The light touch on his shoulder had burned like fire, or acid, and he’d lunged at his tormentor… It was only after she’d left that he’d been able to process that although the touch had seemed to burn, it hadn’t been intended to hurt. It had been gentle, hesitant, but too warm for his chilled flesh to endure.
Later, when he’d torn his chains free from the fixture securing them to the wall, when he’s tracked the one who’d chained him, seeking more of the warmth he’d briefly felt, after he’d fought the monster and remembered a name, Buffy… He’d clung to her, burying his face against her, knowing only that she was warmth, and safety, and kindness, and love, even though the meaning of that last word had evaded him.
Memory had returned gradually as his pain had eased. Every touch of Buffy’s gentle hands as she’d tended his wounds had made the pain and the icy coldness melt away a little more. She built fires to warm him until he was at last able to light them himself, wrapped him in blankets that at first felt harsh against his over-sensitised skin but gradually became less uncomfortable. She brought him blood to nourish him, and his strength slowly began to return.
With every touch of Buffy’s hands he craved more. Nothing else could banish the ache deep in his bones, nothing but her tender ministrations, cleansing him of blood and grime, binding cuts with soft bandages, healing him in a way that went beyond the physical, reaching right down to his soul.
But as his memories returned, he remembered that her touch could destroy as well as heal, that they would always have to keep a distance between them, for both their sakes. It stung, because after so long mired in suffering he yearned for the pleasure that could be found in her touch, but pleasure and soul-deep happiness had been his undoing before, and neither of them could afford to take chances.
Still he lived for each touch, drawing strength from the smallest brush of her fingers, her lips against his. They could never regain what they’d known before, never go back to the simplicity of loving and being loved, no matter how much they might wish they could. Too much had happened, most of it bad. Angel did his best to make peace with that, hoped Buffy would be able to do the same, because he still needed her to remind him that touch didn’t have to mean pain, and that maybe in time he might make up for all the evil he’d committed and be worthy of salvation.
The End
