Sorry for the bittersweet :( Less than Perfect 'verse, but should stand alone
Date: 2010-10-20 08:04 pm (UTC)The problem, he was sure, was habit. They were all creatures of habit, and obsession, and maybe a little bit of addiction too. Which meant if they seemed set in their ways when they first met that was nothing in comparison to how they were after they'd changed their ways for each other. Eliot had given up his resistance to anyone taking care of him, because Nate needed that control, needed to be able to help, needed to be able to fix things. And now… Well, he'd had no idea how much trouble Eliot had been having settling back into taking care of himself again until he'd turned up at Nate's bedside in the middle of the night, needing a safe place to sleep and someone to watch over him. He looked like he hadn't slept in months, and somehow Nate hadn't seen that during the day.
Now the morning was just breaking on the other side of his dark curtains, light sneaking in around the edges of the room and illuminating everything but Nate's mind. There were still dark shadows under Eliot's eyes, ones the morning light wasn't going to be able to shift, but he was sleeping now, restfully for the time being, and Nate had time before he needed to move. Time enough to appreciate this rare occurrence.
A couple of months ago, this would have been a real gift, taking in that restful expression and Eliot's easy deep breaths. It would be the prelude to Eliot waking - somehow perpetually aware of being watched, and then there would be kisses and everything that came after that. As it is, Nate can only appreciate the treat for as long as it lasts, and hope Eliot doesn't blame him for taking full advantage while he has the chance.
