Good morning/afternoon/evening, everyone. I'll be your guest host for the week & I'll always try to post as close to 12am PST as I can (though of course there may be times when I fall asleep & post a little late... which is what's happening right now, please forgive me). Our first theme is TV Tropes. Invariably, all forms of entertainment media rely on tried-&-true creative devices to shape their stories, develop their characters, just get their points across, etc, & today we're using those tropes as prompts.

You can visit the TV Tropes site here & pick out any trope(s) you like. Careful, though - people sometimes get lost in that site, it's so vast & so awesome!

Please keep these rules in mind when posting prompts:
  • Only three prompts for the same fandom.
  • Only five prompts in a row (though if one of your prompts is filled, you can prompt again).
  • No spoilers in your prompts for at least a week after the airdate/release.
  • Warn for any spoilers for your fic in bold and leave at least three spaces before the text.
Prompt formatting examples (because proper formatting for the code monkeys is good manners):

Supernatural, Dean/Castiel, hands-on approach
Inception, Arthur/Eames, did I just say that out loud?
CWRPS/Supernatural, Misha/Castiel/Dean, the existence of an identical stranger should probably be a bit more upsetting... though, at the moment, Dean's having a hard time remembering why

Nothing really interesting you today? That's alright, there are plenty of Lonely Prompts out there waiting for love.

Alright, you crazy kids. Have fun!

3) The Undercover Job

Sam had claimed "research", then buried his head in a huge-ass book Dean's pretty sure has nothing to do with the case.

And it's not like Dean is jumping for joy over this particular work detail, but there's part of him that's glad Cas isn't partnering with Sam on this one. And no way in hell was he going to partner with Sam. That wasn't even an option.

Dean's actually not convinced that Gabriel doesn't have anything to do with this recent case. It's just that weird.

Regardless, Dean is now sitting around a circle of couches on a loveseat next to Cas--holding his hand.

And Cas had insisted on threading their fingers together because in preparation for this case, the damned angel had actually done some people-watching and knew that two people in a romantic relationship nearly always threaded their fingers together when holding hands.

Dean tried not to think about it.

The case is definitely a strange one. Supernatural deaths (they'd found the sulfur on each body to prove it) all committed on the same night every week for nearly two months now. And what did all the victims have in common? They all attended support groups at the same facility. The problem is, every three months, the meeting times and rooms changed. But the pattern didn't. Every Thursday, a death would occur sometime around midnight. And every time, the victim had attended a meeting earlier that night in the same room of the same facility.

Dean just wishes they'd caught on to this pattern last month: sexaholics anonymous. But his luck pretty much sucks, because the Thursday night meeting has just changed over to the gay support group. And as Sam pointed out, they can't risk upwards of twelve people's lives just because Dean is a little uncomfortable with posing as a gay man. The problem is, Sam did his research and found that it's not simply a gay support group, but specifically a support group for gay male couples.

Which brings us back to Sam claiming "research"...and Dean and Cas holding hands.

Dean just hopes that Cas will remember what he told him about lying this time. Mostly, just keep quiet and don't deny anything Dean says.

But that's not working out so well.

"Well, Dean, we all know what you think, but why don't you let Cas speak now?"

Dean knew he'd had reason to be annoyed by the group leader, Todd, earlier. He makes a note to investigate him first. Definitely Dean's top suspect.

Dean opens his mouth to explain that Cas is shy, but Cas starts talking first.

"What would you like to know?"

"Oh, well, what do you like about Dean?" Dean can almost hear the unspoken question: Why would you be in a relationship with this loser?

Or maybe that's just Dean's insecurities speaking.

Cas, however, answers very matter-of-factly. "He is righteous. And brave. He has a big heart, and is loyal. He is lighthearted, often even in the face of darkness. He is well-toned and has a beautiful soul. He--"

Dean interrupts Cas before he can say anything more. It's already awkward enough. "Hey! Cas, um, thanks, that's..." Dean pats their still-conjoined hands, "That's great."

The truth is, Dean's kind of reeling. He knows Cas wouldn't lie about something like this, so the only explanation is that that is the way he sees Dean. Which is, well, it's kind of a great feeling. He's not sure he agrees with Cas' assessment, but it's nice to know someone thinks well of him.

Dean thinks they're free and clear, but he should know better than that. Todd, though put in his place with Cas' glowing review of Dean, still seems intent on causing some damage. Like, for example, putting Dean on the spot and seeing him flounder.

"And Dean? What do you like most about Cas?"

And Dean does flounder--at first. He's taken off guard, and he's sure Todd's sufficiently found his achilles heel, but soon enough, Dean's unwittingly listing off Cas' traits.

"He's weird. But in a kind of great way. He sees the world differently and he doesn't take shit from anyone. He's actually kind of a badass," and damn it if Dean's voice betrays him by sounding wistful, "he's open-minded--well, lately he's been pretty open-minded. And he does the right thing. Even if it means he has to go against everything he's ever known, his family included. Plus, he's hilarious when he's drunk!"

That last line actually gets a few chuckles, and Dean grins. One glance at Cas tells Dean that he's slightly embarrassed, but amused nonetheless. It reminds him of how Cas was when they left the brothel.

Dean thinks he'll have to try to bring that side of Cas out more often, because it's kind of awesome.

In the end, it turns out Todd was a skin-walker and a witch. And he had issues. Like major ones, which led him to lash out at others with issues. He would assume the identity of a new group leader every three months. And why that particular room and meeting time? He liked the view and Thursdays worked best with his schedule.

Go figure.

4) The Bar

They'd killed Todd. And even though Todd was a skin-walker and a witch, it still always kind of gets to Dean, just a little bit, because he looks human. The ooze helps alleviate that guilt a little, though.

Booze does, too.

Sam's chatting up a brunette at the other end of the bar (slipped her some holy water and salt at Dean's insistence), and Dean's content to drink alone for now.

Except a mere moment later, he feels that familiar prickle of sensation that tells him Cas has just zapped himself here. And then he feels hot breath on the back of his neck and he knows that Cas still can't remember and apply their talk about personal space.

"You want a drink, Cas?"

Cas takes a moment to respond, and Dean can imagine Cas' head tilt, considering his options before his reply.

"Yes, Dean. I supposed I could use a drink. Whiskey neat, please."

Dean gets the bar tender's attention, and since there are no open stools, when he turns around to finally look at Cas, he's not surprised to find Cas still in his space.

The disturbing thing is he's getting used to it.

Even more disturbing? It's kind of comforting.

Dean takes a swig of his beer and his mouth betrays him when he asks Cas, "Did you really mean all that?"

He doesn't elaborate, but he's unsurprised when Cas immediately knows what he's talking about.

"Of course I did, Dean. I wouldn't lie about something like that. You seem unwilling to admit that you possess many admirable qualities."

Dean looks away, embarrassed, but out of the corner of his eye, he sees Cas down his recently-arrived whiskey in one go.

Dean suddenly gets hit with the sense memory of holding Cas' hand in his, and he can't help but remember how right it had felt in retrospect.

Dean slowly looks back towards Cas and unsurprisingly, the angel is staring at him. Dean gets the distinct and not unfamiliar feeling that Cas is reading his mind or his soul or something, and it all sort of just clicks into place.

He knows he should be more disturbed by this turn of events, but after going to hell, being brought back, and now facing the apocalypse, he kind of doesn't care about the particulars. He just knows what he knows.

He places his hand on Cas' on the bar and leans in slightly.

"I forgot the most important thing."

"What important thing?" Cas asks, entranced.

"What I like most about you." Dean knows it will sound selfish, but he also knows that Cas won't see it that way. "You know me, body and soul, and for some reason you still stand by me."

"Of course I do, Dean, you are righteous and--" Dean cuts him off with a soft kiss, and he knows he's finally found what he's been looking for. For 70 years he's searched, and now after everything, he's finally found it.

5) The Motel - Part Deux

That night, when Dean and Cas went to book their own motel room, Dean didn't care what the clerk thought.

Or what Sam thought. (The teasing didn't even bother him--not yet, not when all of this was so new and felt so good--but tomorrow would be a different story and probably be the beginning of an epic prank war. And Dean knew he'd win, because he had a badass angel on his side.)

And when Dean woke up the next morning, warm and sated and sore in certain unfamiliar places, wrapped up in Cas, all he could say was, "I am so gay."

LOL! I loved Dean's slow realization that he is so gay for Cas. And the final part was so cute!
