Quarta-feira: Old School
Oct. 6th, 2010 08:15 amIt's Wednesday, and the day's theme is... Old School aka Things from back in the day (which is always a Wednesday), around 10+ years in the past. Whether it's a fandom that's not quite as popular as it used to be, past events, memories, things from a characters childhood like favorite cartoons or video games, "the good old days when...", or whatever else you can think of.

Date: 2010-10-07 10:58 am (UTC)People tended to believe that because Neal was a criminal he had often skipped school, which had obviously led to his downfall. Right; because no well-educated man had ever done anything wrong.
The truth was, Neal had never skipped school. Except for the first Tuesday every month because that was 'New Releases' day at the local comic books store. In actuality, Neal couldn't have cared less about grown men running around in tights and a cape but since the introduction of Gambit in X-Men Neal had followed the series religiously. In retrospect there was something really telltale about idolising a former thief and con man but the true implications of Neal's tastes in superheroes only revealed themselves much later.
At this point it should have been quite clear that not the skipping of school had been the starting point of his criminal career but the necessity to get out early to be among the first to hold the new copy in his hands.
This was how Neal Caffrey started learning how to forge signatures. He spent copious amounts of time practicing various techniques and several signatures - including but not limited to the school principal's. He took great care never to use the same excuse too often and avoided signing with the same name two months in a row.
Nobody caught on to him - until he began signing his excuses with the mayor's name. That did not turn out too well. He was grounded for a month and all his comic books were confiscated.
It had taught him two important lessons: one, sometimes bigger was not better. And two, there were only so many places to hide a stack of comic books. Neal's childhood idol was not a thief for nothing.

Date: 2010-10-06 12:23 pm (UTC)Very short.
Date: 2010-10-06 05:16 pm (UTC)Will he be remembered as a hardass, one never smiled? Will he be remembered as the protective father, both to his son and to his team? Will he be remembered as the loving father who loved his work? (No, he thinks. Haley's dead.)
He doesn't know. And as he lays dying in a hospital bed, He knows that the people that matter will remember him well. Hotch squeezes Reid's hand one last time and lets go.

Date: 2010-10-07 01:59 am (UTC)"Was he scary, daddy?" ten-year-old Katie asked as she and her brother waited for the answer.
"Very. Very, very scary," Tony said, making a cartoonishly frightened face that sent the kids' peals of laughter through the room.
"And there was also a handsome prince," Tony continued, "And the ogre kept the prince prisoner in a tower."
"Why?" Donnie asked.
"The prince did something bad," Katie suggested.
"No," Tony said, "The ogre was just mean. He made the handsome prince work late and made fun of him and made him teach the probies. It was truly terrifying."
"Was the ogre ugly?"
"No, this was a very handsome ogre. Really, if the ogre were just a little bit nicer to the prince, the prince would have fallen in love right away."
"Really?" eight-year-old Donnie said, "Because not all cultures believe in love at first sight."
Tony grinned, "You'd make your namesake proud, Donnie."
"Finish the story or I'm leaving," Katie grumbled.
"Okay, well, the ogre and the prince went on many adventures together-"
"So the prince wasn't really locked in the tower?"
"Not all the time, no. But anyway, they saved many beautiful maidens and gentlemen, and some puppies and kittens too, and eventually the prince realized that he didn't really care if the ogre was mean and bossy and slapped his head even when he didn't deserve it. Because the ogre was also brave and smart and decent and loyal and handsome and had integrity and was still a badass no matter what his age and was really, really good in the bedr- uhhh, in the best rule-following ways. And the ogre realized that the prince wasn't going anywhere, and so they fell in love."
"That's all it took?"
"They also asked for a little help from a magical wizard called Jack. Daniels. But only that first time. Heh... hey. why are you two smiling? .... Crap, he's standing right behind me, isn't he?"
Donnie and Katie giggled and nodded, and Tony turned around to see Jethro standing behind him, arms crossed and frowning.
"Nice story, Prince Tony," Gibbs said sarcastically.
"It was a nice story," Katie said and Donnie nodded in agreement.
Tony looked back nervously until Gibbs leaned over to give him a peck on the lips.
"I guess it is," Gibbs smiled, before saying, "But now it's bedtime!" and eliciting groans from both their kids.
As soon as they cleared out, Gibbs raised an eyebrow at Tony. "That's not a very G-rated version of how we met. Also... an ogre?"
"A handsome ogre. And I don't see what you're talking about. Maybe you better whisper the NC-17 version to me, so I can be sure I know the difference."
Gibbs smirked and leaned over to Tony's ear, and Tony felt just a twinge of excitement.
But all Gibbs said was, "Call me the ogre again and I really will lock you in a tower."
Tony grinned up and said, "I could think of worse punishments."
