Thursday - Apocalypse!
Apr. 7th, 2011 05:54 amToday lets play with Apocalypse fun!
Whether it is trying to prevent one, or surviving after one...ending one before it can end us or even bringing the apocalypse raining down on us...the skies are burning or maybe falling, the oceans boiling or rising, the earth is heaving or collapsing...we are overrun by demons, angels, monsters, human greed, industrial waste...you get the idea.
Please remember to follow the rules: no more than 5 posts in a row, now more than 3 per fandom at a time. You can come back and post more once some of yours are answered. No spoilers in your prompts for at least a week after air/publish date, and if you fill contains spoilers, please warn and leave at least 3 spaces before starting your fic to give people the opportunity to skip it.
Remember to format your prompts properly:
White Collar, Neal, one morning NYC is empty
Justified, Raylan/Boyd, rivers run red
Buffy, evil!Faith/evil!Willow, want, take, have
If nothing here catches your eye, wander on over to our lonely prompts and help yourself to a prompt or two.

Date: 2011-04-08 03:57 am (UTC)He feels so stupid later, when he realizes why he'd had unspecified chills running down his spine from the moment he woke up until the moment he stepped out of June's lovey house onto an empty street. It was the silence... the eerie quiet in a city that was anything BUT.
For a moment he'd thought that there must be a movie filming, some disaster movie with more special effects than story and no respect for proper dialoge, but then... Then he'd noticed the flames flickering in the window across the street. There were no safety crews to put it out in case it got out of hand... no actors, no director...
No people.
He didn't even remember running back into the house, frantically dialing Peter's number and begging, then shouting, for his friend to *answer* damnit, and tell him he was going crazy. He tried a dozen numbers, the office, El's cell, Mozzie's emergency contacts, June's cell, Diane's desk, Sarah... No one picked up.
The anklet was the last thing on his mind when he broke his radius on the way to Peter's house, but when he thought about it he just hoped that someone came to throw him in jail, he'd be happy to see anyone at this point... But the streets stayed empty, except for the abandoned cars, still sitting with their doors closed and engines on.
The Burke house echoed with quiet, not even Satchmo was there to greet him.
It took days for it to truely sink in. New York, his vibrant, beautiful, lively city, was empty. Neal was all that was left.
He'd never handled being alone well.

Date: 2011-04-23 08:26 pm (UTC)Somehow it only figured that Boyd had thought of these things, in that cold calculated manner that he did. Where to take shelter, how to get supplies - who to trust and who to leave behind.
They argued - how could they not? But when it came down to it, in this world Boyd always seemed to have it right. So Raylan stopped arguing as much, even as Boyd killed off those too weak, or burned down churches to make strategic barriers.
But it was Boyd who would come to his bed at night, and every time Raylan would break Boyd to pieces so he could build him back up again. And in the morning Boyd would keep making those hard choices, so Raylan could look the other way.

Date: 2014-10-14 07:39 pm (UTC)Jimmy stares down at him for a few minutes but Tim seems content to wait him out.
.
When Bucky Barnes was 17, he was working two jobs and dividing his paychecks between Steve’s ma and his own parents. Becca was 14, Livy was 11, and Jules had just turned 6, and their pa’s hours had just been cut, and Ma got paid barely anything to wash other folks clothes when they could afford to pay her.
Steve would’ve been furious if he’d known, but Steve’s ma understood. And Pa used to rage about Bucky giving Steve’s ma anything, but it didn’t matter to Bucky how loud Pa hollered or how hard he hit. They needed the money for Steve’s medicines and all of the Barnes’ were healthy.
.
When Jason Todd was 17, Jimmy knows, he was learning all sorts of things with the League of Assassins. He was supposed to be dead.
.
Tim Drake is 17 with too much time on his hands and too little to do. The fact that nobody in the world realized he was wandering around Gotham at night, trailing Batman… the kid is lucky to be alive.
.
“I’m bothering with you,” Jimmy finally says, helping Tim to his feet, “because someone needs to.”
Jimmy knows the kind of man Tim’s going to be – he died for that kind of man once. He loves that kind of man now.
“You’re a good kid,” Jimmy says, handing Tim a bottle of water. “I’d like to see you live to be a good man.”
Tim blushes a little, ducking his head.
.
Tim Drake is 17 and lives alone in his parents’ home. He attends a prestigious academy because he wants to and his hobbies include reading everything ever written and stalking vigilantes.
Since beginning Jimmy’s training sessions, though, Tim has not once contacted either Jimmy or Jason to inform them he is going out. Because Jimmy had worried, Jason swung by on the fifth night after the dinner at Wayne’s and then texted him, Kid’s safely in bed. Looks like a pretty deep sleep. The twelfth night, Jimmy checked himself and Tim was swaddled in his blankets.
Jimmy knows that Tim will catch on eventually – the lessons are designed to be just exhausting enough to knock him out all night, but not so hard the kid injures himself. If he has his way, Tim will find something else soon, maybe get out of Gotham and go to a good college and start doing good in the world. (If they hadn’t grown up during the Depression; if there hadn’t been a war. There are so many things Bucky Barnes used to dream about for Steve Rogers. There are so many things Jimmy wants for Jason.)
But… the kid’s been stalking Batman and his partners for almost half his life and has yet to grow bored or move on.
Jimmy mainly focuses on self-defense, using an attacker’s strength against them, and the best way to escape. He reiterates that calling Jimmy is to be the first thing Tim does after finding somewhere safe to hole up and Tim promises.
.
Bucky Barnes was 26 when he fell off a train and died alone in the mountains (how old was he when Hydra finally broke him and the asset was born inside him? there is no way of knowing). The asset had no age but it died dragging Captain America onto shore. Jimmy – Jimmy’s maybe 28, but he doubts it, most days. Most days he either feels ancient or brand-new, with little in-between.
Jason Todd was 15 when the Joker murdered him. He’s 21 now, but he feels every year like a decade, and when he puts on the hood (and the Hood), he knows he’ll live forever. (Jimmy will do everything he can to ensure that, and the day Jason dies…)
.
“You comin’ to dinner, kid?” Jimmy asks while Tim is stretched out on the floor, trying to remember how to breathe. “Debra’s made meatloaf. The twins have been very inquisitive about you.”
If Jimmy didn’t know that Alfred visits Tim every other day, he might invite the kid to just move into the loft. But it is far too early for that, and not safe, besides. He sometimes still wakes up confused, and Jason’s nightmares occasionally get violent.
“I… I’d be welcome?” Tim asks, eyes wide, turning his head to look at Jimmy.
“You are always welcome,” Jimmy tells him.
Tim’s smile is wide and bright. “Then I’d love to come to dinner.”

Date: 2011-04-07 06:28 pm (UTC)Grace has finally fallen asleep. Danny watches her for a moment, before checking on the surroundings one more time. They went back to Five-0 headquarters, but for now it's only him and the two girls.
Chin and Steve come back from their little exploratory trip ten minutes later. Kono stops going back and forth and rushes toward them. From where they are, Danny can't hear what they say, but he can get their body languages enough to understand.
They didn't find anybody.
*
"So what do we do now?" Kono asks later, crossing her arms to stop herself from fidgetting. Steve remains silent, pretending to be busy checking on his gun. Danny knows that he just doesn't have a clue what to answer.
He doesn't either.
"We should try to contact the government," Chin states after a short hesitation. "We will need help for the researches."
"The researches, yeah, right," Danny retorts, "It's not like it's only a little bunch of people missing, man - The bloody whole island is empty!"
"We noticed Danno."
Danny snorts, and looks back to Grace. She wasn't supposed to be with them when it happened, it was a pure coincidence. They had all been at Danny's when Rachel had come to give her to him, because she had an emergency somewhere else and please, Danny. Danny hadn't been very pleased then, because he was currently working on a case with his team and he was just a bit busy, thank you very much. But Rachel hadn't let him many choices, and Hell if Danny was ever going to let his daughter think that she wasn't welcome at his home anytime.
Now he's nothing but immensely grateful than Rachel brought her. Because maybe if she hadn't, Grace would have disappear too, and that, Danny is not sure he would have been able to handle that.
He lets his hand rest on his daughter's hair, which is more a reflex than a conscient move, and Steve sighs.
"Does any of your phone still work?" he asks, and doesn't seem surprise when they all shook their heads negatively.
"None of the telephones I tried did," Kono states, briefly sucking her lips in, "and I checked many."
"Chin, can you check internet? Or really, anything to contact the outside?"
"You got it."
Chin gets out of the room and Kono follows him. Steve slowly sits down next to Danny.
They say nothing for a while, before Danny mutters, because he has to say it: "Man, this is sick..."
"I know."
"The whole island, how is that even possible? I mean - where the fuck have they gone?"
He doesn't need to see Steve to know that he's making a face. Steve doesn't know any better about the situation than any of them, he can't explain what is going on either. But Danny has to rant, because this is insane!
"You can't kidnap a whole island."
"Seems unlikely, yeah."
Danny closes his eyes and let his head rest on the wall behind him.
*
Internet doesn't work either. Nothing does. Kono has to feeling to be stuck in a bad horror-movie.
*
Chin is still trying to understand why the computers won't work and how to fix it when Grace walks out of Danny's office. Only then does Chin become aware than the night has passed, it's morning already. She smiles to him sleepily, and he greets her back.
"Hei Grace, where's your father?"
"He fell asleep on the couch," she answers, before frowning, "Where are the others?"
"Kono is sleeping in the next room and Steve went out to... check around. You want breakfast?"
She nods, and Chin leaves the computer as it is to take Grace to the coffee machine. He gets her a hot chocolate, and some cakes from a co-worker's desk.
Grace doesn't freak out. Danny told her to not to, that it was okay, he was on it. So Grace doesn't freak out.

Date: 2011-04-07 09:54 pm (UTC)Peter would happily admit to freaking out right now except this can't be happening.
Nevermind that his grandmother's warnings about the end of days and sinners were true, and the apocalypse has a distinct lack of fire and brimstone (and a rather alarming amount of space aliens handing out littering tickets of all things). Also nevermind that Neal somehow knows the Devil.
None of this can be happening, so Peter goes on not-freaking out and waiting for Neal to get done negotiating with Satan. Who is freakishly tall.
With floppy brown hair and sad, puppy-dog-ish eyes and who might, possibly be making eyes at
hisNeal.That bastard.
Neal saunters over ten minutes later with that shit-eating grin and snags a bottle of water off the table to Peter's left, chugging down half the contents in a rather un-Neal like way before coming up for air with a gasp.
"So?" Peter asks tensely, because Neal would smile himself right into Hell and that's really not a good thought to be having right now, Peter.
"He wants New Mexico. And the Philippines," Neal states, before sipping at his water.
Peter stares, waiting.
"And?" he barks when it's clear Neal doesn't intend to continue.
"And..." Neal shrugs guiltily, "he wants three records expunged like they were never there and a new social for some guy named Cas."
"He agreed to not blow up the world, though," Neal adds, like asking for the most expensive port on the menu when he knows it'll be Peter's ass when it shows up on the expense report. "Or do other apocalyptic things."
"Cas," Peter repeats.
"Cas," Neal confirms with a nod.
Peter sighs. This morning, he should've just stayed in bed.
