said that I should go for the change of degree major. Keep Business Administration for my transfer degree, but then, if possible, when I transfer to ASU, go for the Health Care Coordination Bachelors of Science degree.
When I speak with the ASU rep this coming Wednesday, I'm going to ask what would be needed in regards to switching majors, this late in the game...or in the grand scheme of things, would it really matter. Then I need to try to get an appointment with a counselor at LBCC (regular counselor and transfer counselor) to discuss any necessary changes.
I've been talking with Colleen about what will be done with Kim every Monday if I do the ASU Local...I don't think I mentioned that the last time I talked about school. So, ASU Local is this relatively new program/system that's been started. ASU has 3 local campuses - Los Angeles, Washington, DC, and Tempe (weird as that's in Arizona and they have several campuses around the state) - and all the course work is done online, but 1 day a week, you go to the local campus location for check-ins with your career coach, mentors and do general networkings. This is a weekly thing they have in place to help online students to succeed.
Well, with this ASU Local offering, I'd have to dedicate every Monday for the duration of my Bachelor's degree journey to going to the local campus from 10am-4pm. No big deal, right? Yes and No. Because I don't drive, I'd have to leave about 2 hours before that to make sure I get there in time on the bus/train (it would be like an hour and a half one way), and then coming back, it would probably be 2 hours as well...so Kim would be home alone from 8am-6pm.
TEN HOURS!
Kim has dementia related to Parkinson's Disease. While she's on medication, there's no cure. She's not going to get better. In the last month or so, she's had more bad days than good days. Like, this past weekend, we went to the park for a few hours, then church on Sunday...she was so disoriented and lethargic on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday! Normally she's not like that. But Colleen says she will be fine. I can leave her food out for her and she (Colleen) will call her throughout the day to make sure she takes her pills and eats. No, that's not good enough. Someone needs to be in the apartment while she's walking around (hello, she has to get up to go to the bathroom), make sure she doesn't fall and make sure she drinks throughout the day. This isn't the same as me going to a hockey game for 4 hours (although I think that was closer to 6.5 hours)...which let me tell you, I was definitely surprised that Kim did well on her own for that time, she even got up to go to the bathroom and change her underwear because they were wet. It wouldn't be good on my part to be like, "okay, she did well for that, I can leave her alone for 10 hours 1 day a week".
So anyway...doing ASU Local is out...unless Colleen decides to come down for that day (highly doubt it) or she finds a caregiver to come for the 1 day a week (through IHSS, it would end up being less than $200 after taxes - pay is done every 2 weeks) or the other option is finding a senior day center she can be taken to every Monday. I started to look into that but you know what...that's not my responsibility. Colleen needs to do this because Kim is her sister and eventually she will have to be more involved in what's going on with Kim!
Anyway...again. I can do this new degree program completely online and hopefully, the classes are asynchronous because I really don't like classes during a scheduled time.
I've got to get some sleep. I need to pick up some flowers and Mother's Day cards. I'll be mailing them out late, but  it's the thought that counts.
The few people I talked to...
