Thursday: The Sky
Jul. 11th, 2024 01:33 amHi, everyone. I’m
templefugate, your host for the week. Today's theme is the sky. Prompts can be about or relating to the sky.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and the fandom's full name
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here. Unfortunately, DW doesn’t have a cut tag, so use your best judgment when it comes to spoilers.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above-mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ MCU, Sam Wilson/Bucky Barnes, pilot & flight attendant AU
+ Any, any, wing!fic
+ Any, any, skydiving
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2024 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? You can use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community. Fret not, DW members; we are working on a way to search through old entries for prompts for you! As of right now, the best way to search for a lonely prompt on DW is to search the community’s archive, which can be found [[HERE]].
While the use of LJ's advanced search and DW’s archive are options, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching in the future.
As a friendly reminder about our schedule, Lonely Prompts and sharing completed fills are encouraged on Sundays, while new themes and prompts are posted on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Saturdays are a Free for All day. We'll share our posts on DW and LJ for everyone's convenience. Keep an eye out for notifications!
If you have a Dreamwidth account and would feel more comfortable participating there, please feel free to do so…and spread the word!

Date: 2024-07-11 10:51 am (UTC)Fill: Dongmin/MJ (Astro) - Interdimensional Traveler AU
Date: 2024-07-12 02:48 am (UTC)Back on the moon, he had a relatively sedentary job. He was mostly hunched over computers, crunching numbers or running labs. He didn’t even start working out until he met Myungjun, and even then, he only accompanied Myungjun to the gym so they would have more time together. He preferred his slower lifestyle, and so when he started traveling through realities and meeting new Myungjuns, he had to become more physical. After all, he knew he had to be in good shape if he was to save even a single Myungjun from destruction and murder.
But this sort of labor was far different from anything Dongmin had experienced before. The sun was far too hot and his clothes weighed heavily on him and his muscles ached and burned with each tiny movement he made. He tried to slow down at various points, to take a break from setting up large grain silos, but Myungjun was on him in a second.
“Up,” he ordered, not for the first time, pushing his goggles away from his eyes. “We still have more to do.”
“Is this how your society treats its honored guests?” Dongmin asked as he took several deep breaths.
Myungjun smirked. “You’re not an honored guest. You’re just some stranger who stole a horse and moved into my house without asking if you even could.”
“Well, someone has to keep you safe.”
“That clearly isn’t going to be you. You can’t keep up with the rest of us; how do you expect to fight off some crazed moon scientists?”
“The scientists don’t fight, not necessarily. They have other methods to subdue you.” Guns, for example, but he didn’t say that, lest he accidentally will it into existence. He couldn’t handle the thought of those nameless, faceless men shooting another Myungjun dead – again.
This was the longest he had stayed with any Myungjun so far, and he was getting a bit antsy. How had they not been found out yet? How did the scientists not infiltrate this world? They had gotten to every other Myungjun, but not this one.
Perhaps they had become intimidated by the sheer size of uninhabitable land. Dongmin had to admit that this Myungjun’s world was not very friendly and he was surprised humans had still managed to survive off of what little resources were available. Technology had not advanced very far, but the communities were apparently thriving well enough. Myungjun had confirmed that there were many other cities and towns and villages scattered about Korea and the rest of the globe, though all of them seemed about as advanced as Korea was.
Myungjun grabbed his flask of stale water and passed it over to Dongmin, who was quick to drink it. At this point, he couldn’t determine whether or not he was even drinking water, since it didn’t have the same taste as the water in every other universe, but it quenched his thirst well enough.
“I want to examine this under a microscope one day,” he mentioned once he had secured the top back on the flask. “I’m convinced this is a liquid similar to water, but it is not quite–”
“It’s water,” Myungjun said firmly.
“In your universe, maybe. In mine…” Dongmin shook his head and then handed the flask back to Myungjun, who accepted it with a small scowl.
“In your universe, you drink water from the moon,” Myungjun pointed out. “So you’re probably not used to actual water.”
“But I’ve visited Earth before, in my quest to save another Myungjun. I’ve had water from Earth, and it tastes the exact same as water from the Moon.”
Myungjun raised his eyebrows at Dongmin, squinting in the bright sunlight.
“Is it very different here, then? From the moon, I mean?”
Dongmin nodded his head with enthusiasm. “Oh, yes. The Moon is…” It was better, in every single way. The water was crisp and the temperature was well-regulated and there were sections of growth with great, beautiful flowers, and they were protected from the sun’s deadly rays, and technology was advanced and they had plenty of food and Myungjun was a blond-haired singer who captivated millions. The Moon was superior.
But this Myungjun seemed quite protective of his desert planet, and Dongmin did not wish to offend him.
“Well,” he said, trying desperately to think of the negatives of his home planet. “We’re dying from a plague.”
“That would suck,” Myungjun agreed.
“And…I’ve been on the run and…I’m trying to save your life from murdering scientists.”
“A downer.”
“And the sky here is blue. And that blue stretches from miles.” He glanced up at the sky, thankful now for his goggles to guard his eyes from the sun. “It’s so bright. The sunsets are beautiful, and the sunrises are beautiful. And they’re real. On the Moon, there is a lack of atmosphere, so we live in large domes scattered everywhere. Some of these domes have simulations of sunrises and sunsets, and so those become populated quickly, but most of the domes just…on the moon, there is no sky. Just space. I feel like sometimes I would get sucked out of the dome and just float about in space for all eternity.”
Myungjun stared at Dongmin for a few seconds, studying him carefully. Soon, though, he smiled; Dongmin was not sure what his study had uncovered.
“You did,” Myungjun declared. “You got sucked into space and you fell down here, right onto a horse.”
“I traveled here,” Dongmin corrected, pointing at his watch. “Through my machine. I opened a small tear into the fabric of time and space and traveled –”
“Sure, but you still have to land somehow,” Myungjun said, and Dongmin was convinced that he completely misunderstood what the traveling device was. “So you fell through the sky and landed on the horse.”
Dongmin smiled. “I landed beside the horse.” He decided not to argue with Myungjun; it was like arguing with a brick wall.
He liked that about Myungjun.
Myungjun snorted. “Regardless,” he continued, “it is like you just fell from the sky.” He sat down next to Dongmin and looked a bit excited. “I want to see the moon’s sky one day. Can we fall from your sky? I want to see what space looks like without the blue sky covering it.”
Dongmin traveled back every so often in order to find supplies and sabotage the traveling devices and check how many citizens were even still alive. But he couldn’t fathom ever taking Myungjun. His face was well-known and the scientists and doctors and government officials were after him. If Dongmin took him to the Moon, it would be like leading him to slaughter.
But he looked so hopeful, his eyes sparkling with the prospect of leaving his tiny, desert city, if only for a little while.
“We can come right back,” Myungjun assured him, “and then you can continue trying to protect me, even though you don’t seem very witty or strong.”
“Thanks,” Dongmin deadpanned. He stood up and sighed. “Let’s get back to work, I guess.”
“You’re avoiding my request.” Myungjun also stood. “Does that mean I can’t travel with you to the Moon?”
Dongmin didn’t look over at him. He instead grabbed another large piece of stone and cleared his throat. “Just keep looking at the sky down here,” he murmured. “It’s far more beautiful.”
Myungjun put his goggles back on and said nothing more about the sky.
But that was alright. Myungjun could be disappointed. Down here, though, on this godforsaken planet, though Myungjun struggled and suffered and knew he could never escape, he was safe.
No one would ever find him here.

"I understand that watching the sunrise over the bay is also beautiful," Adam replied.
"I'm sure it is, but I've had my fill of getting up early in the morning, so I'll settle for the sunset at the end of a glorious day. You are, of course, welcome to come down by yourself if you want."
"What, and leave my warm bed and my warm companion? No thank you, I'm quite satisfied with the sunset."
They stood watching for a few more minutes, before turning and walking hand-in-hand back to the car.

All things considered life with Husker is pretty sweet until Arackniss comes calling. However, maybe having a worried, grumpy older brother back in his life isn’t the end of the world.
