Maybe there's little ones running around, maybe the characters are remembering when they were children, or perhaps they somehow got turned into children for hilarity. Anything goes so long as it fits.

Rodney looked around the room and was surprised to see how many children were there. From nursing babies to rebellious teenagers, they shared space with the adults. He had expected the adults. They had worked together, fought and bleed for one another. But the kids...
A girl broke away from her parents and went to stand at the podium in front of the Stargate. The soft hum of conversation fell away and the Gate room was suddenly silent. Rodney recognised the girl as one of the engineering apprentices. One of Radek’s students. Lorne’s oldest daughter – Joanna.
He didn’t hear what she was saying at first, still looking around the Gate room at all the kids standing with their families, standing in front of their parents. John leaned in and told him what his brain just couldn’t grasp. “All the kids are here, Rodney. Every one of them.”
And then Rodney tuned in to what Joanna was saying up at the podium. “Skinned knees and sprained wrists were treated with a huff and a story about how we had it all so easy now that Atlantis was a colony. And after the inevitable lecture about how the transporters were not launching pads” – there was a small spattering of laughter at that – “or how the Ancient gadgets were not toys for little children, there would be a lollypop or a bit of candy to cheer us up.”
Rodney waited with his breath caught in his throat as Joanna looked down at the paper she had brought up with her. “I remember when I was little, just after my mother died in the factory explosion; I asked him if he was going to die one day too. He scoffed at me in his usual manner and told me he was going to live forever.
“I was fourteen when the Drogon Incident happened,” she continued. “I asked him after why he didn’t have any children of his own. He told me he wasn’t going to trust his immortality to just one child. And he wouldn’t explain further,” she told him. Rodney was choking up with her. He knew where she was going, because he’d once had a similar conversation with Radek. About kids and immortality and life after death.
“Four days before he passed away... Four days before he died, I was sitting next to his bed when he woke up for the last time. He reached out and smiled to me. His last words to me were ‘my legacy’.” She sucked in a shuddering breath and Rodney felt his heart stop in his chest.
She fought back her tears, eyes as wide as her mother’s had been. And standing a little taller, shoulders squared, she announced in a hoarse voice: “Uncle Radek had no wife and no children of his own. But he is survived by twelve nieces and fifteen nephews.” And then she turned face the closed coffin next to her. “We are his legacy,” she said. “His immortality.”

Date: 2011-11-06 02:36 am (UTC)On the way back to Nate’s from a con, Eliot and Parker rescue a small child from an attempted kidnapping. Which is nice, you know, because Nate’s sure to congratulate them when they tell him for being his kind of (not-a-) criminal. But after Parker high-fives Eliot he actually turns around, steps over one of the bodies still twitching from Parker's taser, and picks the kid up.
“What are you doing?”
It clings to Eliot’s side like a monkey as the hitter hoists it up one-handed, worming its arms and legs around him and sniffling into his jacket, and Eliot looks back at Parker like she’s the crazy one. “We have to return him.”
And that doesn’t make sense either because even though it’s a kid and weird and oozy, now Eliot’s mentioned it she realizes they’d rescued it so they should get to keep it. Hardison had told her Nate used to have one, once. Maybe he’d like another one. And Sophie would probably like it. Hardison too, he’d have someone to play video games with.
They could keep him and train him to be a thief like them!
Parker tells Eliot; he hugs the kid closer at the idea and turns them away from Parker, which means he’s really thinking of keeping him because he doesn’t want to let even Parker close, even though he saying things like “stupid” and “we can’t do that” and other things he says when he doesn’t like one of her ideas.
Parker would have to build a new harness for him, though. He’s too small for all of hers. But that also means he’s small enough to break into places even she wouldn’t fit, and she’s the tiniest of the team. She could finally send someone else into the air ducts for a change, and do some of the fun parts of the job like Eliot always does!
Parker smiles wide.
Eliot’s face mashes up like he’s smelled something awful. Oh, that’s right, people say kids can’t go to the bathroom right. Well, she’ll have someone else teach him how to use a toilet. On that topic, what would they call him? Unlike everyone else she’s met, he doesn’t have a name yet. Can she make one up, like other people do for their pets?
He needs a cool name – something thief-like. Definitely nothing Hardison comes up with, because she’s seen all the people he talks about and all they do is live in a screen and fight bad CGI. Nate will probably have some ideas, or Sophie. She always has the best names for her cons.
They could pull a lot more cons with a kid on the team. People find them cute and harmless. It’ll be like having a puppy on a leash that can pick pockets (once Parker’s taught him, of course). She’d probably start with a simple lift from a purse before moving on to clothing…
Parker only realizes she hasn’t been paying attention when she sees Eliot walking away from her, already three yards away, kid still octopused onto him. “Hey!” She calls, “Wait up!”
"We're not keeping him!" Eliot growls, and walks faster. Parker breaks into a sprint. She has until they find whoever the kid belongs to (they call those parents, right?) to change his mind.

Date: 2011-11-03 04:02 am (UTC)"Hail, Burtson," a deep voice calls. Kurt stops mid-step, then spins around to stare up at the God of Thunder.
"Thor?" he asks in disbelief, gaze darting around for the rest of his team.
How the hell did Thor sneak up on him?
"Nephew," Thor says, giving him the most delighted grin. Kurt's only ever seen its like on dogs, basking in their person's approval. “We have much to discuss.”
Kurt steps back (hopefully) out of reach. “I haven’t done anything worthy of arrest,” he announces. “Or detainment, or kidnapping to Asgard, so –”
Thor’s expression saddens. “I’m not here as an agent of SHIELD, or as Prince of Asgard, nephew,” he says gently. “I would like…” He sighs. “I’ve only seen my brother across the battlefield. Please. Join me and talk of Loki.”
“I,” Kurt begins, then pauses. “You,” he tries again. Then finally, “What?”
Inclining his head regally, an elegant movement Kurt learned from his mother that’s apparently an Asgard royalty thing, Thor says, “I miss my brother. I see so much of him in you. Please, Kurt Hummel, son of Burt and Loki… share a meal with me and speak of the adventures shared with your mother, my brother.”
After a moment of just staring at Thor, completely shocked, he says, “So, to clarify: I’ll talk about my childhood with my mother. And you’ll talk about your childhood with your brother?”
“Yes,” Thor declares firmly, smiling again.
“Sure,” Kurt says. “C’mon home, I’ll throw something together.”
Thor continues to beam. Kurt finally understands why Mama always used to grin at any and all Golden Retrievers they ever saw.
