Thursday: rare pairings
Feb. 16th, 2012 07:05 amToday's theme is rare pairings. A rare pairing you love or trying out something new, just so long as the pairing is rare.
Always remember the Rules:
No more than three prompts to a single fandom
No more than five prompts at a time
If fic has spoilers, please warn and and leave at least three spaces.
Spoilers are not allowed in prompts even when warned for.
Think of the Code monkeys and use this format:
Supernatural, Anna/Crowley, deals
Supernatural, Lisa/Balthazar, he doesn't leave
Supernatural, John/Gabriel, new beginings
Don't like today's prompt? Check out the lonely prompts.
Go wild!

Hello again
Date: 2012-02-24 09:25 am (UTC)It was supposed to be a vacation, a time-off from the constant running, chasing, shooting and trying to outsmart all those trying to get their hands on them. They were supposed to split, let out some steam and meet in two weeks time to continue their latest assignment without the risk of one of them collapsing in the middle of the job. They were supposed to relax, dammit.
It wasn’t exactly possible with him standing in the middle of the Grand Central when Face got off his train.
Face didn’t usually go for men. He liked women better – much better – but every once in a while some guy would give him this look and Face would realize he didn’t exactly mind. Neal – Neal, Robert, James, he didn’t know which name was real – was the first and only one so far to make Face start giving those looks, to make Face interested enough to ignore the model making sweet eyes at him and take the first step on a way that was supposed to end with him and Neal naked together.
He succeeded, of course. Both then and those few times they happened to run into each other when Face was on a leave. It wasn’t every time, it wasn’t even all that often and he knew it was all a matter of chance, but after a few times Face noticed himself expecting those meetings, waiting for them, hoping they would manage to meet again. It got to the point where, after spotting Neal in an art gallery in L.A. he visited with an art student he had met the night before, his first thought was to cancel all the plans he’d made and wait for Neal to finish whatever business brought him there. He didn’t even know if Neal would want to meet with him – he probably had plans, for god’s sake, Neal always had plans and he didn’t have to be willing to change them – but Face was ready to take the risk, even if it meant he had to spend the evening alone.
It wasn’t until the next morning that Face realized what he was doing. It hit him when he laid down on the floor after his usual exercise routine and started planning their day, Neal still sleeping in his bed, a breakfast on its way to their room. He knew who Neal was, how he earned the money for all of his fancy hats and suits, and here he was, an Army Ranger who, instead of reporting a fugitive criminal on FBA’s wanted list, wondered if said criminal would prefer Italian or French cuisine for dinner. It was all good when it was supposed to be just a one-night stand and Neal was just this guy he met on a party, or when he met him again and only suspected something was off. But he couldn’t fool himself any longer - ever since the fourth time, when his suspicions were confirmed, it wasn’t okay. Not at all.
Lying there, on the white hotel carpet, with Neal’s dress pants lying in a heap just a few feet away, Face decided he couldn’t do it anymore. He wouldn’t report Neal, but he couldn’t stay any longer either, no matter how much he wanted to. And so he stood up, gathered his things and left before the room service could woke Neal up.
He kept checking up on him – he knew that Neal was caught, that he ended up in jail, that he got out just weeks before the end of his sentence. He knew about the deal Neal made with FBA later on. But it was one thing to know and quite another to see Neal again, standing next to the man that both caught him – twice – and got him out of jail. It was one thing to suspect and something entirely different to see confirmation written on Neal’s face and in his eyes.
There was trust there, there was admiration and air of ease that Neal rarely allowed himself to display, and something else too – something that Face he had wanted to see directed at him.
But it was not to be.
He turned around, put his sunglasses on and went back to the platform. There had to be a train that could take him away from New York, now.
