Date: 2015-01-01 05:39 pm (UTC)Adult John Casey would not have led Chuck and Sarah on a two hour scramble through the bowels of Castle, terrified that they wouldn't catch their newly-pintsized partner before he pushed the wrong button. Adult John Casey wouldn't have hidden inside Jeff's van because 'Gen'al Beacon was mean to Unca Chuck!' and force Chuck to call in a fully-outfitted SWAT team, certain that John had been kidnapped.
Adult John Casey would not have pouty-lipped and puppy-dog-eyed a defenseless Sarah into reading him bedtime stories (which they both hope Casey can forgive them for, once he's restored to his proper age and size; Ronald Reagen biographies worked fine the first couple of nights, but after that Ellie insisted that they all head to the Barnes & Nobles and buy John some appropriate children's books.)
Adult John Casey would not have thrown a military-grade temper tantrum until 'Unca Chuck' and 'Unca Mow-gan' agreed to stop doing 'dumb spy stuff' and play with him.
Toddler John is watching Captain America, for the fifth time, sitting in his Uncle Morgan's lap, while Chuck packs away the complete set of Skippyjon Jones picture books and Avengers action figures that soon-to-be-once-more-adult John will probably curl his lip at.
"Are you sure we can't just-"
"You know we can't, Chuck." Sarah stops him, but she doesn't look happy to do it.
"What if it doesn't work?" Chuck pushes on. "What if it hurts him? He's going to be so scared..."
"We've got to try, Chuck. Casey - our Casey - deserves to have his life back," Sarah says firmly. "Don't you want him back?"
Sarah doesn't say what both of them are obviously thinking. It's become unclear which Casey is "their" Casey... and, whichever one comes home with them tonight, they're going to end up missing one of them
Toddler John clings to either Chuck or Sarah or Morgan through the duration of the trip to DC, but only moments after placing him, with his tiny quivering lips, inside the restoration chamber and tearing themselves away, Adult John Casey steps out.
He is dazed but otherwise completely unharmed. And completely oblivious to everything that's happened since the de-aging.
"What the hell's going on? Where the hell are we?" Casey demands, in his gruffest, most intimidating growl. "Walker, you alright?" he asks, only somewhat softer, when Sarah springs an emphatic, obviously unexpected hug on him.
"She's fine, Casey," Chuck says, with a hand on his wife's back and a somehow even voice. "It's just good to have you back, Casey."
And it is. Spying wasn't the same without Casey's snark in Chuck's earpiece; Casey's back to his back in a firefight. And if Chuck gets a little teary-eyed himself, when he realizes that he forgot the box of Toddler John's toys he packed at Casey's - and it's gone when he goes looking for it - well.
His worries are put to rest the day Casey finds himself babysitting Clara. Chuck and Sarah drop by before Ellie and Devon come to get her back, and they find Casey sitting on his couch with Clara on his knee, reading Skippyjon Jones - complete with voices.
They sneak away, grinning at one another like idiots.
When The Winter Soldier hits theaters, Chuck asks Casey to go with him and Morgan. Casey pretends to grumble about it, but he watches every scene rapt, while Chuck and Morgan pretend they got popcorn dust in their eyes.

Date: 2012-04-05 10:42 pm (UTC)Stargate SG-1, Daniel and Cassie, "The World May Never Know"
Date: 2012-04-06 01:17 am (UTC)Daniel brought his head up from his translation and turned it to his left where Cassie was standing looking at him expectantly. He’d agreed to watch the thirteen-year-old while Janet covered an evening shift at the hospital. “Why do you ask?”
Cassie shrugged. “I saw a commercial. The owl bites it in half after only three licks, so it doesn’t really answer the question. I figured you’d probably know.”
Daniel blinked. “Actually I’ve never tried to find out. I’m not the biggest fan of lollipops.”
“You’re kidding,” Cassie replied, sounding almost scandalized. You’ve never tried to get to the center of a chocolate lollipop?”
“They make chocolate lollipops?” Daniel asked in return.
“Why do I know this and you don’t? I’ve only been here for a year.” She rolled her eyes.
Daniel couldn’t help but smile at that. “Jack says I led too sheltered a life.” He chose not to say any more. She was still just a kid after all. “Why don’t you enlighten me about this amazing taste sensation? I’ll take us to the grocery store before they close.”
Cassie smirked. “No need. I have a bag in my room. Give me a sec.”
Daniel watched her run off. A few moments later she returned, two large suckers wrapped in brown paper in hand. “Well, I do like Tootsie Rolls,” he said as he took one.
“That’s what’s in the center,” Cassie confirmed, grinning. “And now we can experiment and find an answer.” She unwrapped the candy then paused to examine the wrapper. “Darn. No Indian shooting a star. What about you?”
“What?” Daniel asked. “What are you talking about?”
“Jenny at school told me that if you find the picture of an Indian - I suppose I should say Native American - shooting a bow and arrow at a star on the wrapper, it brings good luck. Do you have one?”
Daniel flatted out the small square of brown paper. “Nope,” he said after a moment. “No Native American shooting a star.”
Cassie pouted slightly. “No good luck for us, I guess.”
“I don’t know about that,” Daniel mused. “I get to taste a chocolate lollipop for the first time, and you get to find out how many licks it takes to get to the center of one. That sounds like good luck to me.”
“I can live with that.”
The two of them proceeded to lick their lollipops, being careful to count each one. It wasn’t long before Daniel understood the motivation behind the owl’s action; it was delicious. And it wasn’t long after that when Daniel realized he’d really just prefer to suck on the candy and get back to his translation, but he didn’t want to disappoint Cassie.
The teenager, on the other hand, was totally concentrating on the task at hand. Then, five minutes in, she stopped, blowing out a loud gust of air. “I think I know why no one knows the answer to that question,” she said wryly.
Daniel, who had been discreetly taking more and more times between licks, raised his eyebrows at the statement. “Why is that?”
“Because it makes your tongue hurt.” Cassie opened her mouth and let said muscle hang out for a moment. “I’m going to scrape off all my taste buds if I keep doing this.”
“So go ahead and stop,” Daniel told her, unable to hold back the amused smile the comment produced. “I prefer just sucking on it anyway.”
Cassie sighed and nodded. “I guess the world was not meant to know.” She smiled. “But thanks for being willing to help me find out. It was fun, especially seeing your face after you took your first lick.” She grinned.
Daniel chuckled and shook his head. “Anything to make you happy, Cassie. And thank you for introducing me to the joys of chocolate lollipops.” He figured it was better not to give her a hard time about the slight teasing; he probably had worn one heck of a blissful expression at that point. He supposed he should just be glad she hadn’t had a camera.
Cassie smiled a little wider and began to head back toward the television. But just as Daniel turned back to his paperwork, the girl dashed back and squeezed him tightly. “I mean it, thank you,” she whispered as he reflexively hugged her in return. “For everything.”
She was off again before he could respond, but Daniel smiled warmly at her back anyway. “I can say the same thing, Cassie,” he murmured under his breath. “The exact same thing.”
