To say that Thor was arrogant was… well, it was an understatement. Thor was big, and brash, and extremely confident in his abilities to pummel anyone into the ground.

To say that Loki was arrogant was something that caught people off guard. Loki was a linguist, preferred to talk his way out of situations rather than fight. He often complimented people, agreed with them. Or when he disagreed, found a way to not anger you in his disagreement. He had a kind of soft calm to him that people would never claim to be arrogance.

But that was exactly what Loki was. He knew he had a tongue of silver. He could work his way into almost any mind, given the chance, and get his way. Few people saw his ability. Odin was one. Heimdall was another. And sometimes, just sometimes, he wondered if Volstagg had also figured it out. He commented on it often enough. But until Heimdal or Odin, Volstagg still let him speak.

That’s what annoyed Loki the most. When he wasn’t able to speak. He had to teach himself, train himself. There was no one there to show him what to do, to practice with. Thor was brought up being taught combat by their father, and several other tutors. Loki, while trained in combat, never reached the level Thor did. And so his training after a while stopped. He stayed fresh, of course. Practicing normally with his brother or the Warriors Three. But his talent, the talent of persuasion, the talent of communication, wasn’t something that people practiced.

So he taught himself.

And he was very, very, good at it. Arrogance doesn’t have to be loud boasting and bracing. It doesn’t have to be how many scars you can gain. No. Arrogance is knowing you have the power to do whatever you want, whenever you want to. And if you put Thor and Loki side by side, Loki’s arrogance would drown his brother.

Brilliantly in character- loved the whole tone.
