One Kiss Can Change Everything
Date: 2012-05-13 08:37 am (UTC)Zach felt overwhelmed, uncertain of himself. It’s not like that first kiss, when Shaun was taking a huge risk in putting forward the suggestion of them together. It wasn’t like any time he’d kissed Torri.
Shaun’s hand came up to his jaw, sliding soothingly up behind his head, fingers shifting, massaging away the tension, calming him. Zach pulled him closer, clinging on as if one of them might disappear, vanish out of reach. Shaun released the kiss and Zach knew he couldn’t meet his eyes, so instead he buried his face in Shaun’s shoulder and breathed harsh and rapid and panicked. He didn’t know what to say, what to do anymore, just knew he couldn’t lose Shaun, lose what they had. His arms clung desperately and he felt a sense of relief when Shaun held him back just as tightly, like he never wanted to let Zach go either.
“It’s okay, you’re here now; home now,” Shaun murmured softly beside his ear, pressing gentle kisses to the side of his head, but he never eased his hold, never flinched or pulled away, just held on every bit as tight as Zach was clinging to him.
Finally, Zach’s racing heart began to slow, he tilted his head, pressing a gentle kiss of his own to Shaun’s neck, followed by mumbled apologies.
He could hear the smile in Shaun’s voice as he said, “I love you.” And those words made all the difference, because for an instant it was as if the world tilted, span and then settled onto a new axis; an axis in which this was right, this was everything. That was the difference. Shaun loved him and he loved Shaun and nothing else mattered. That was what was new.
“I love you,” he said quietly and tilted his head up to begin the kiss again.
