Tuesday -- Doubles
Jun. 19th, 2012 03:03 amHello everyone,
rattyjol here again with the week's second theme. Yesterday we faced off our favorites with each other; today let's show them something scarier: themselves. Be it twins, shapeshifters, or an experiment gone wrong, today everyone is going to be seeing double.
As always, please remember the rules:
And throw our codemonkeys a banana; always format your prompts correctly, like so:
Harry Potter, Fred + George, deliberate identity mixups
White Collar, Neal, forgery is an art
Sherlock BBC/Cabin Pressure, Sherlock +/ John + Martin, a mishap with one of Sherlock's experiments creates a bumbling airline pilot doppelganger called Martin Crieff
tag=doubles
As always, please remember the rules:
- Don't post more than five prompts in a row. If someone fills one of your prompts, you're free to prompt again.
- Don't post more than three prompts in the same fandom.
- No spoilers in prompts.
- If your fill contains spoilers, please warn, and leave plenty of space.

So in every battle, Tony is a liability to the Avengers. He’s just a normal, everyday man – richer than most, yes, but money does little good during a battle – in a tin can doing his bit to right his wrongs. And if he reminds the others of that enough, one day they might actually realize they can do better without him than with him. So he plays up his contributions to the team, makes sure to deck them all out in the best StarkTech he can build (and at least his Tech can never be surpassed), and takes pains (pains, hah) to conceal his injuries.
But… Tony winces as he feels the blood trickle down the back of his neck, and woozily assures both Captains in his field of vision he’s unharmed from the bone jarring collision with a rock cliff. Sometimes he wishes he could just have one break. It’d be nice to just abandon the voice modulator that ensures his speech is steady and unslurred, flat out say no, Cap, I’m not doing well, there’s a full mariachi band rattling around my brain and unless you have an evil twin – which granted wouldn’t be that abnormal for the shit we deal with daily – I think I need to lie down until my double vision goes away. So you guys can handle this by yourselves, right? Great. I’ll just be back at HQ, beep me when the next emergency comes.
He can’t, of course, for reasons mentioned above. So he staggers unsteadily back towards the scrum and lets JARVIS’s targeting system choose which double is actually there and which one is due to Tony’s abused neurons sparking at him, gritting his teeth against the throbbing in his head.

Date: 2016-03-26 01:29 am (UTC)He's not sure if this the Ellimist or Crayak or something else entirely messing with him, or if he's dreaming. But on the off chance that he's actually gone back in time six years, to some night before he and a group of kids he barely knew met the alien that turned out to (ridiclously) be his father, Tobias lands on the windowsill. His aunt is out for the evening (as always) so Tobias taps on the glass with his beak.
His human self looks so young. Thirteen years old. Never hit his growth-spurt, if he was going to have one. He doesn't remember how it felt to be human. Hasn't morphed human since... he can't remember.
The boy peers nervously through the curtain. He doesn't remember how it felt to be nervous. He's wary as a hawk, cautious but nervous? He doesn't actually feel much these days.
"Whoa," the boy murmurs.
Tobias taps on the glass again.
"What?" the boy asks. "You wanna come in?"
Tobias nods.
The boy raises his eyebrows, but Tobias knows that he was dangerously curious as a human. He was depressed, and angry, and living mostly day to day, but also so curious about everything. He read to lose himself in other places, in other people, because he hated his existence. He still had hope that he'd get somewhere.
Tobias sometimes misses being this boy.
There's so much he could warn him about. Where to even start? On the off-chance this isn't a dream...
The boy reaches for the latch.

Date: 2012-06-25 03:14 am (UTC)Yet tonight it broke the chains. He killed again. He was in a blind rage, because his man had been taken, taken and beaten to within an inch of his life. If he hadn't made it to him when he had, if he'd been one second too slow killing any of those whose blood still covers his hands and shirt, Eliot knows it would have been too late. Hardison would have been killed, and yet it can not find it within himself to forgive himself for taking lives again.
Every one of them deserved it. Every one of them was a murdered, a druggie, and a thief. A few had done things that managed to make even his tough skin crawl. But he still can't forgive himself for letting his beast out for he knows what would have happened had he failed to contain it, and he knows, too, of all those innocents his beast slaughtered.
Alec's face is in his hands now. He could break his neck, kill him, in just a split second if his monster was unleashed upon him. He'd been so foolish tonight, talking him down, not letting go of him until his rage had subsided. He could have killed him so easily. Deep down, a part of Eliot realizes he wants to cry, but he won't let himself not here, not now.
Alec strokes his face. He's still speaking soothingly to him; he has been for hours. But Eliot knows his words are lies. He did hurt him. The bruise on his handsome, dark face is the proof of that for when he first touched him, Eliot threw him against the wall. Had he thrown him any harder, he would have broken every bone in the hacker's body.
"But you didn't," Alec whispers yet again, causing Eliot to wonder if he's only thinking these things or if he's speaking them aloud. "You didn't kill me. You didn't break me. But they did, and they would have. I'm alive because of you. Let it go, baby. You did the right thing."
But can killing ever be the right answer? There's got to be another way, but still Eliot knows Alec's right -- this time. This time, there was no other way. If he'd let any of those men live, they would have come back again. They might have killed Alec, Nate, or even himself. They would have raped Parker and Sophie before killing them. They were monsters themselves, and if ever a living being deserved to be put down, it was them.
But who is he to be judge, jury, and executioner all rolled into one? They may have deserved it, but what of the hundreds before them, the thousands? What of their families, their children? How many lives has he ruined? Eliot hangs his head. His long, dark hair falls all around his handsome, sorrowful face, but still he doesn't cry.
