"No," Tony tells him again, carefree as ever.
"You'd better not just be fucking with me, Stark!" he insists.
"Okay. You're tiny, way down there. Tasha's got the hair- that's easy to spot. And unless there's a lot of flags around, Cap's easy to find too. But we can never find you until it's almost too late. The purple blends well with the shadows, but it's distinct enough to let Thor, Hulk or I spot you in a hurry if we need to extract you," Tony argues reasonably.
Clint nods, then his eyes narrow. "You made that up on the spot."
"Well, yeah, but it's actually pretty sound logic. And I have been working on a way to keep from losing you- your hiding places are going to be your undoing, Hawkeye. It's all well and good that they can't find you, but neither can we!" Tony tells him, frustrated.
"Purple helmet," Clint says suddenly.
"Wha?" Tony cocks his head, waiting for an explanation.
"Leave the helmet purple, make the rest of it black. Easier to hide, but if you guys are looking down at me, you'll still be able to spot it," Clint concedes.
"Sound plan, Barton. Didn't know you had it in you," Tony grins, pleased. He's won his bet with Bruce- the other scientist had said he'd never be able to get Clint into purple for battle. He hadn't specified how much purple. And this means he gets to make Bruce's Hulk-shorts purple too. Tony's life is kind of awesome.
"Yeah, just get the rest of this shit re-painted or dyed or whatever," Clint tells him, stripping out of his redesigned costume and back into his jeans.
Tony considers putting it off until after the next mission, but he doesn't want to risk Clint insisting on going out in his old stuff. He's made major improvements to Clint's body armor, and the archer needs them. So he sends the suit off to the fabrication area to be painted and goes back to testing the bright purple stretch fabric he's been experimenting with for Bruce, wondering idly if he could get Natasha into something besides black.
