Happy Friday, everyone! Loosen the tie and kick off the heels. I'm still
argentum_ls, and I don't know about you, but I'm ready for the weekend. I'll bet our favorite grownup characters are too. Today's theme is grownup time.
For those fandoms normally centered around teens and kids, let's take today to give some love to the adults in their lives. Alternatively, let's see what those kids are like in a decade or two when they've had a chance to grow up a bit. For those fandoms that are already centered on the adults, let's take today to see what they're like out of the office, away from the boss (or the underlings, if they are the boss), and off the clock.
The rules:
No more than three prompts to a single fandom
No more than five prompts at a time
No spoilers in the prompts and if your fill has spoilers, please warn and and leave at least three spaces
Format:
Fandom, Character, Prompt
Fandom, Character/Character, Prompt
Examples:
Teen Wolf, Coach Finstock, "Teachers don't live in the goddamn lockers."
The Listener, Toby+/Olivia, dancing
Any, Any+/Any, an expected night off
None of these prompts begging you to spend time with them? Check out the lonely prompts.
Happy weekend, and thanks for great week!

Date: 2012-07-27 05:34 pm (UTC)He wandered around Epcot the first day but settled in the UK pavilion for a beer and to watch the street troupe entertain the children. He couldn't help but smile and join in the laughter of the infectious squeals and giggles of the children as they were caught up in the schemes of the players.
By the time he went to bed that night he felt better and planned to go to Magic Kingdom the next day and looked forward to riding a few roller coasters, taking the riverboat ride and go to the Pirates attraction. If only his team could see him now, they'd never believe it of him.

Date: 2012-07-27 04:52 pm (UTC)Riding the elevator to the top of the Stratosphere he bought a ticket for the High Roller and waited in line for his turn on the roller coaster. He needed the thrill of air rushing around him, leaning into the curves and the heart stopping drops.
The first ride lightens the weight he'd been carrying. The second ride removes it completely. The third ride had him screaming with the kids surrounding him.
It had been too long since he'd ridden. He needed to let go and ride more often. He missed how it made him feel young and free again.

Date: 2012-07-30 04:32 am (UTC)He doesn't go every time the circus is in town. There's such a thing as too much and he doesn't want to spoil his memories. But sometimes, the weight on his shoulders gets too heavy and he can't handle the man he's become.
On those days he sneaks away from the mansion, leaving behind any way for him to be tracked, making his way on foot to the subway and from there hopping through the city until he reaches the empty lot the circus has set itself up in. The name at the entrance is never the same twice but past that it's the same exact thing, barely changed from when he was a kid.
He's had to make himself jaded to get through his life, surprise could mean life or death but right now he lets himself marvel at the tent and lights and smells. He bites his lip in excitement before stepping up to the ticket window. Once he would have just snuck in, but he feels some kind of debt to these people so he'll help support them a little longer. Once past the gates, the old thrill hits him even harder and it's all he can do to not laugh in sheer joy.
It's a little dirtier then he remembers, a little emptier, a little sadder but it doesn't matter, his own memories are enough to fill in the gaps, to make it shine like everything does to a kid's eyes. Underneath the grunge it's all the same and he can just be Clint, the kid who never had a chance at being a kid.

Date: 2012-07-27 05:47 pm (UTC)Dark Knight Rises, John Blake - PG, gen, spoilers for film
Date: 2012-07-27 08:44 pm (UTC)John used to make up stories about Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne was every hero ever, and he saved the world, and he always looked out for the kids everybody else forgot about. Bruce Wayne was Batman, John was sure of it, and he had most of the other kids at the home believing it, too, until Bruce Wayne actually visited one day, a model on his arm.
He was nice, and he was funny, and he was so obviously not Batman - John’s still surprised he was the only to recognize the mask.
John still can’t believe no one else has ever seen through it.
.
John knows what his colleagues and superiors believe about him. He’s naïve. He’s idealistic. He’ll be chewed up and spit out by the system that failed him once before.
He smiles at them. He follows orders. He’s a good cop, with a bright future. Hell, one day he might even be commissioner, if he doesn’t die first.
John is not naïve. He’s sure as fuck not idealistic.
No one’s looking out for the kids everybody else forgot about. So he will.
.
Bruce Wayne was Batman.
Batman died a hero.
John stands in the cave as it lights up, and he knows no one he used to know will believe this.
.
John used to make up epics about Bruce Wayne.
Now, he’s thinking about taking up the cowl. He had dreamed about being a hero, back when he was still waiting for someone to save him.
He saved himself by wearing a mask for so long he became it.
Now’s his chance to make it real.
.
No one’s looking out for the kids everybody’s forgotten about.
So John takes a deep breath and goes to work.

“They don't have anything for Alfred,” Dick said, his voice taking on a bit of a pout as he spoke. He still sounded so young sometimes, making Bruce wonder if he'd made the right decision in taking the boy in and teaching him how to fight beside him as Robin. True, Dick hadn't given him much choice with the way he'd gone after the man who killed his parents, but times like this reminded Bruce of how much of a child he still was.
“You don't have to buy a present tonight. I think Alfred will be happy to see you eat all your vegetables for a change.”
Dick rolled his eyes. “Lame.”
Bruce gave him a look. “If it's what the person really wants, then it doesn't matter how 'lame' it is.”
“It should,” Dick said. “You know that Alfie deserves more than more than when we remember to thank him for something to eat or drink or patching our uniforms or cleaning them. He does all that stuff, and he doesn't get anything for it. You said so yourself.”
Bruce sighed. He had said it. He thought it every day, even when Alfred was fussing over him. He did more in taking care of Bruce than anyone really knew. He had raised Bruce, been the father he needed after his own had died, and he was still that now. He had always watched over him, and he would until the day he died. The fact that Bruce was alive to help anyone owed everything to Alfred. Every time someone hailed Batman as a hero, he knew that they were praising the wrong person. He'd set Dick straight about it not long ago, but he was the only one. Alfred would never get the recognition that he deserved for taking care of them.
“I want to get Alfred something really special.”
“So do I,” Bruce said, putting a hand on the boy's shoulder as he remembered why he'd agreed to go shopping with him instead of letting the kid handle it on his own. Robin survived Gotham streets at night, so Dick could shop by himself. Hell, Bruce preferred it that way. “How about this?”
He reached forward and picked up a mug, showing it to Dick.
“World's Greatest Hero,” Dick read off. “It's still a mug, though.”
“No,” Bruce said. “It's a start.”
