Shukravar: Shipwreck
Aug. 11th, 2012 02:25 pmGood night, everyone (or good afternoon/morning), and sorry for the lateness. I'm
with_rainfall and this is my last day as your host! Today's theme is shipwreck. You can write about artefacts of a shipwreck, or the sinking of the ship itself, or the remains after its discovery. Some wrecks are said to be cursed or haunted, and others have much mystery surrounding their disappearance. Still others are tragic, of course, but perfectly explicable.
The most famous is the Titanic, but countless battleships have also gone underneath the waves.
Or you can go meta and write about the wreckage of your, er, fandom ship. ;)

As always, remember the rules!
No more than three prompts in one fandom.
No more than five prompts in a row unless one of your prompts is filled. Then you can prompt again.
No spoilers in prompts.
If your fill contains spoilers, please warn in bold and leave at least three spaces.
Format:
Fandom, Character, Prompt
Fandom, Character/Character, Prompt
Fandom, Character + Character, Prompt
Examples:
Silmarillion, Maglor, modern archaeologists find the remains of ships in erstwhile Numenor
Supernatural, Sam/Dean, the cursed artefacts from a shipwreck
Animorphs/Supernatural, Sam + Dean + any, tracking down the Nartec post-war through archaeological evidence of shipwrecks

Date: 2012-08-13 02:48 pm (UTC)The Teleri, of course, keep the music she craves, the confusing, dissonant melodies that Ulmo gives them. She cannot copy it, though, she lacks the gift (or maybe the humility). So she listens, and she invents instruments for them, tender soft shellfish-things to follow their voices but never drown them out.
Later, when Galadriel fails to save them from Feanor's slaughter, it seems like all music loses meaning - all she has left are crude drums and war trumpets.
In Middle Earth, Galadriel finds her voice. It is as dark as the forests around her. She invents instruments, organic tangled things from wood and hair. She sings about loss and death and sometimes about salvation, and stars creep into those songs almost without her notice. She sings Laurelindórenan to life almost by accident.
When Galadriel finally goes home, Ulmo himself rises from the waves to sing her a lullaby. She isn't really worthy of it, but it really doesn't matter. She lets him wash over her, like waves, warm and unpredictable, and for the first time in her life she has no wish to join in.

Devil.
Murderer.
Demon's Child.
The waves enclose the ship and tumble onto it, and it's sinking down, down, and he's losing air and the dark water is filling his lungs and it hurts, and the watch is in his way, he struggles to remove it, to stop hurting-
"Tsuzuki."
He jolts. The ship halts midway to the bottom. The water in the lungs does not cause pain anymore.
"Oi. Idiot. Are you listening."
The water falls away, transforming into a swirl of sakura petals, and he is engulfed in light.
"Well, then,if you don't want the last cinnamon bun..."
"I shall sacrifice myself. I do not like sweets, but I cannot let the money go to waste."
He opens his eyes, his mouth watering like that of Pavlov's dog at the mention of his favourite sweet before his consciousness even processes the full picture. The next thing that he is aware of is sweet smell of cinnamon and powdered sugar. Then, the sight registers Hisoka handing over the box to Tatsumi. Tsuzuki leaps onto it reflexively, knocking Hisoka back.
"Tsuzuki-san. Manners." Glasses flash ominously.
"Sowwy. Tfanx," he says over a huge bite of the pastry.
Hisoka rolls his eyes. Tatsumi sighs. They look at Tsuzuki munching blissfully and then at each other, feigning exasperation while mentally congratulating themselves for averting another crisis.

Date: 2012-08-12 05:35 am (UTC)No, the Rachel turned out to be made of sturdier stuff than the Yeerks. Hadn't that always been the way of it? The Blade Ship crumpled and the monstrosities that had been created aboard it drifted out into brutal emptiness. But the Rachel stayed strong.
Not impervious, of course. There was damage, huge holes in the hull spewing precious air into outer space. The readings said that they had seven minutes of air left.
“It's funny, you know?” said Marco, holding a hand to his bleeding forehead. “On ships in the old days, the fear was always that something was gonna get in. Now it's all trying to keep stuff from getting out.”
{Yeah. I don't think we can get our air back with buckets.}
“So...you think Jake's gonna wake up before the end?”
{I don't know. He hit his head pretty hard.}
“Probably, uh, probably better. He got the last bad-ass line. Hanging around after that just makes it lose its impact. No pun intended.”
{No pun found.}
“Heh. Nice... You think the other two are gonna be able to get that escape pod out?”
{Don't know. Besides, there's not enough supplies for them to reach anywhere safe.}
“Might as well have a little stupid hope for the best. That's what being an Animorph was all about.”
{Amen.}
“Didn't know you were religious, Bird Boy. A bird of prey, if you will.”
{Shut up. You know what you said before about hanging around making something lose its impact?}
“Yeah, I know. I'm just one big punchline, going on way past when it's funny. But hey, at least no one has to know how stupid my final words were. That's the beauty of going down with the ship.”
{Aye aye.}
