New Yorking Friday!
Oct. 5th, 2012 01:53 pmHey again, this is your host for the week
derekmetaltron! I've been very glad to have been your host in the past few days and I've seen some excellent prompting, so here's to one final day of it!
The theme for this Friday is New York! The city so good they named it twice. Whether or not your favourite muses live in the Big Apple or not today all our prompts will be taking place around New York, whether it's visiting beautiful landmarks, chilling in Central Park or webswinging through the skyscrapers... well that's an option for one fellow anyway. ;) Of course New York is actually a county of the States as well so if you want to have your set around New York County that's fine too!
As always, remember the rules via the Great Diety of Copy and Paste:
•No more than five prompts in a row.
•No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
•No spoilers in prompts.
•If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space!
Prompts should be formatted as follows:
Fandom, Character+/Character, Prompt
Here are some examples to get the ball rolling...
Doctor Who, Amy/Rory, Seeing the Statue of Liberty for the first time after leaving the Doctor.
Marvel, Peter/MJ, Romantic Webswing through the City.
DCU/Marvel, Batman and Spider-Man, "New York's no Gotham."
Happy Prompting and readers, be sure to tag them if you've found a prompt you like!

A/N: Wild and wolly, hope you like it!
It was unclear to everyone involved just why the Timelords had seen fit to allow several Doctors to exist in the same time-frame and much less clear as to just how they had managed to find and gather the companions, all in all, however, people didn’t seem to care all that much.
The hilarity of the whole situation only sank in when they paused to look at where they were. New York City, the Big Apple, and yet they were apparently only here to skate.
Some of the companions were used to it. People like Donna and Amy, Victoria managed to just about skate without tripping over herself and Jessica, the latest doctor’s companion was almost able to skate with some speed, almost. Liz however seemed entirely reluctant to release the side for fear she’d probably break something. She had, after all, been timid about even meeting these new people. Jo Grant, bless her, was refusing to skate without someone to hold onto and it seemed that Sarah-Jane Smith had been the only one to even offer. Peri, the one who now actually lived in New York, was the only one able to move with speed and precision, although she didn’t seem to mind waiting for the others. Leela, the doctor’s only companion who wasn’t actually born on earth had seemed the most reluctant, each tiny trip was an embarrassment to her and she seemed to only allow herself a few moments to right herself.
None of the companions had as many problems as some of the doctors however. 2 seemed able to keep himself upright, if he held onto the wall, he was refusing to let go at all though. Three was able to let go of the wall, but he regularly fell right over, the resulting noise halfway between cat-like and elephant-like. Four and Six seemed able to cope pretty well and yet, it seemed almost as if the older they got, the more skilled they got. Seven was moving cautiously but confidently, even if Ace had refused to come, Nine and Ten seemed intent on racing each other, 11 was like a puppy-dog trying to learn how to walk. Overall, the best of the bunch was 12. Yes, she had stumbled, regularly, but she was upright and just about managing to coax Liz to let go of the side.
They seemed to be doing well, Liz finally releasing the side before losing balance, naturally 12 caught her but the two went down hard and fast.

Date: 2012-10-05 10:30 pm (UTC)A week of leave, and the Howling Commandos are seeing the sights, but Steve and Bucky were born and raised and they go right to the place they miss most.
Bucky's found them a motel room in Brooklyn, far enough from their old neighborhood that they don't have to stop every block to say hi to an old acquaintance, but close enough that it feels like home.
It's the scents and sounds that let Steve know he's really back. The murmurs of heady conversations on the street, the occasional good-natured yell, the aromas as they pass a bakery that's been there forever, the shouts of children playing soldier on the streets, killing Hitler again and again (and Steve knows what that's like). He looks over at Bucky, and Bucky's enjoying it too, he's savoring it, his face relaxing into comfort, into ease and warmth and home.
The motel room is bare and the mattress is thin, but a window opens up to the fresh spring air, to the sounds of Brooklyn and its easy bustle, and it's perfect. They sit on the wiry bed and Steve leans into Bucky, lips on his neck, smelling deeply Bucky's scent as it mingles with the cool spring breeze.
Bucky slides a hand under Steve's shirt, glides it along his side from hip to ribs. He moves his lips to Steve's ear, sucks light on his earlobe.
"It's good to be home," Bucky says. Just a whisper, tiny gusts of hot breath on his ear.
Steve leans back and lightly pulls Bucky on top of him.
"It really is."

Date: 2012-10-08 06:41 pm (UTC)"New York is brilliant!" Arthur beamed on his last pass before Carolyn guided him into his seat for landing.
"Yes, Arthur. You've made us painfully aware of it's brilliance for the last... how long, Douglas?" Martin sighed, his watch seemed to think he was somewhere between Pakistan and an alternate universe where 0700 was actually 1343.
"Oh, roundabout a quarter hour," Douglas responded before adding; "And the duration of the ten hour flight."
"And all last night," Carolyn frowned deeper.
"But it is!" Arthur protested, even as the com crackled to life with a 'Golf Tango India, clear for landing'. "It's really really really brilliant! Have you ever seen a city quite as amazingly brilliant as New York City?"
His enthusiasm continued through the landing, through the terminal and baggage claim and out to the street where he froze with an expression of what might be abject terror or utter glee (it was often hard to tell with Arthur until he managed coherent speech) as he observed the seemingly endless queue of checker cabs. "Oh my..."
"Oh no," Carolyn sighed, "Arthur..."
"Yellow car, yellow car, yellow car, yellow... yellow... yellow... yellow..."
"I think we've broken our Arthur." Douglas rolled his eyes, flagging one down for their short trip to Queens.
"Should I give him a thump and see if the needle unsticks?" Martin laughed as Arthur continued his chant.
"Yellow car... blimy there's a lot of yellow cars here..."
"Shhh, calm yourself..." Carolyn murmured, pulling him into the back of the cab between herself and Martin; "Close your eyes and think about the furthest thing from a car..."
"A train?"
"No."
"A bus?"
"Try again, Arthur..."
Martin sighed and cut in; "Think about little fluffy kittens nestled into a basket with their mother wrapped around them for warmth."
Arthur let out a happy sigh. "Like Gerti? In the middle of all those big Mum-airplanes like a little kitten..."
The comparison was enough to draw a furious frown from Martin as Douglas stifled a laugh in the front seat. Even if the old girl had looked a little... diminutive... in the face of the monstrous jetliners it was a rubbish comparison and completely unfair to the plane. "Arthur..." he said firmly, waiting until the younger man opened his eyes to point out the cab window; "Yellow car."
eta: Typos, I have them.
