Hi, its me your guest host [livejournal.com profile] hpfangirl71 and sorry this is late.

Today is the day to show the Lonely Prompts a little love.

The usual rules apply:
+No more than five prompts in a row.
+No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
+If one of your prompts is filled, feel free to prompt again.
+No spoilers in the prompts.
+If your fill contains spoilers please warn and/or leave at least three spaces.

The Format... It's a little different:
+For the HTML savvy it goes like this: Supernatural, Any, Confused

+or similarly [a href=http://comment-fic.livejournal.com/285743.html?thread=53927727#t53927727]Supernatural, Any, Confused[/a]

Just turn those square brackets in to < and >

+If you aren't great at that kind of stuff, just format it like this:http://comment-fic.livejournal.com/285743.html?thread=53927727#t53927727

Filled!

So, yeah, I just filled that. *crosses fingers* Never written Avengers before. Except for that one with JARVIS and Tony and the coffeemaker. But that doesn't exactly count.

Are you kidding? That one was adorable!

Awww, thank you!
What I meant was that it didn't really count as Avengers, per se, because while I saw Iron Man and have a decent grasp on Tony's character, and, well, AIs being flirty ... not so much the rest of the Avengers. And that fic only had Tony and JARVIS and the coffeemaker.

Ohh, I see. Got it now. :D

Anyway, just read your new fic and it's just...*tonguetied* Awesome? Wonderful? Great? All insufficient to describe it.

Thrall. *chuckles* Oh, Thor.

*SQUEE* Thank you so much! I was worried about this fill, I got an idea but I wasn't sure I knew enough about the Avengers to make it, y'know, accurate and stuff. Then I was like "you know what, it's a drabble, the basics are Tony is a homeless inventor and Thor thinks he'll make a great thrall, it's funny and kinda weird and I hope other people will like it."

Thrall. *chuckles* Oh, Thor.
What? It makes SENSE! Homeless skilled worker holds up a sign advertising his skills! Thor didn't even have to pay a trader money for him or drag him out of a Saxon village!
Of course, there should be an awkward sequel where Thor decides to use "his new thrall" as a bedwarmer and everyone tries to explain why that's REALLY not ok, and Tony's all "hey, did I say 'no?' No I did not. Please leave me alone with the sexy blond barbarian guy! And seriously have I died and gone to hobo heaven?"

No, it was great! Besides, it's an AU, so any mistakes, if there are any, should be forgiven/taken to be part of the AU. *nods*

"Thor didn't even have to pay a trader money for him or drag him out of a Saxon village!" *giggles* You're killing me here. Seriously.
Bedwarmer? Ohhhhhh...I want to read that now, and I'm not even a fan of slash! *nudge*

It's so true, though! In this new land, the thralls just stand on the street and let you pick them. How bizarre is that?

Bedwarmer? Ohhhhhh...I want to read that now, and I'm not even a fan of slash! *nudge*
*headdesk* That essay of mine is never getting done, is it? "I'm sorry professor, I didn't finish the essay but I DID write a trilogy of drabbles about a Norse god taking a homeless guy as his thrall in modern-day America, hows about you grade that instead?"

You're very welcome. :D

Re thralls again: *giggles* Tea. Coming out of my nose. Ow.

It would make a nice commentary on contemporary American/Western society, though, wouldn't it? What class is it? I bet you'd be able to twist the story to fit whatever the topic is. *is evil*

Oh god, I'm sorry! That sounds painful!

But seriously, Thor does not understand the issue here. It's much fairer than most forms of slavery he observes and he's read about in history books. A thrall can earn their freedom eventually, or their master could just decide to free them, and you can't just kill a thrall, they have wergeld, a man's worth, so if a thrall is unlawfully killed someone has to pay you compensation. But his battle companions are acting like he's just done something awful, wtf?

*sporfles* No it really wouldn't. For one "essay" I have to outline exactly how I'd make Labyrinth into a Broadway musical and explain my casting, story, and set choices. That's more of a rambling narrative than an essay, though. The other one is a huge Gothic Literature essay that's starting to worry me. I need to get sources from the library and integrate them into a dreadful last essay attempt. And it's due next week. I'm ... panicking a little, about that one? I'm trying to finish the Labyrinth one first so I can just focus on the Gothic one.
To be fair I'm pretty sure my first teacher would be into the whole slash thing, as he teaches Queer Studies and LGBT in Sci-Fi classes.

Huh, I didn't know all that. I took a mythology class, but we didn't go that far into Norse society. (I just realized--this is where the word 'enthralled' comes from, right?) But yes, Thor would be terribly confused. And now that you've told me all that, you must write it in fic form. *sigh* After your essays.

Labyrinth on Broadway? Interesting...The Gothic Lit essay sounds more complicated though. Good luck!

Re teacher: *giggles* Does he know about fanfic and slash fanfic? I think you need to have a class discussion about that.

Also fun fact: they were pretty ok with the gays, well, they were ok with the guy doing the penetrating, the guy who was getting penetrated was looked down upon. So, usually a thrall. But still, half-ok with gay relationships is a helluva a lot better than most of Europe was at the time.

I took a mythology class, but we didn't go that far into Norse society. (I just realized--this is where the word 'enthralled' comes from, right?)
I took a general Viking/Norse history class. Mythology, life at home, world traveling (why do we call Russia "Russia?" Because of the Swedes, who used to be called the Rus, took their longboats down the rivers in western Russia and set up some outposts. Then they went to Byzantine and impressed the Emperor so much he made some Vikings part of his personal guard. And they graffitied on the the Vatican. And went to Canada and probably America 500 years before Columbus went to the Bahamas.)
Yep, that's where "enthralled" comes from.

But yes, Thor would be terribly confused. And now that you've told me all that, you must write it in fic form. *sigh* After your essays.
Dude, what do you think I'm writing right now? Essays are taking a back seat, I'll finish the fic, and THEN focus on essays. I can't think about anything else now, thrall discussions won't leave my brain alone!

Labyrinth on Broadway? Interesting...The Gothic Lit essay sounds more complicated though. Good luck!
We had to take a play and turn it into a movie, or a movie and make it into a play or musical. Hypothetically, that is. It's awesome.
The Gothic Lit essay is scaring me. That's why I'm tackling everything else first, so I can just focus on THAT.

Re teacher: *giggles* Does he know about fanfic and slash fanfic? I think you need to have a class discussion about that.
Pretty sure he does. After the class my friend told me about, I'd be amazed if things didn't come up in class, or he brought them up for discussion himself!

Really? That's interesting. I actually read a story on this site quite a while ago about a reporter asking Thor's opinion on gay marriage.

Neat! I liked my myth class. Naglfar. A boat made out of dead people's finger- and toenails. How is that not awesome? ;P

Hey, have you read American Gods? If you haven't, you really should.

You're writing it? You're writing it? Ohh, I'm so bad. But then again, I should be reading about..."Rites of Passage" right now, so whatever.

Ooh, fun assignment!
I have some pretty major assignments coming up, too. Procrastination is awesome!!!!

Talking fanfic on an academic level is pretty interesting, actually. I did a big paper on crossover fanfic once. My advisor even told me that she used to write slash fanfic for fanzines (Star Trek), and she had friends who would watch gay porn to "get it right." O.O right?

I am blaming you if I fail my classes, dude. Just sayin' ...

Ooooo, do you happen to have a link handy? I could go looking, but if you have a link handy that'd save me some time.

I know, right?! Norse mythology is so metal it's insane.

Hey, have you read American Gods? If you haven't, you really should.
Yes I have! I have an autographed copy, even! Love it!

Usually I never procrastinate. Which makes me stress when I actually DO procrastinate because I don't know how to handle it like other people.

Whee! *goes to read* (comments at journal)

Hmm, link...Okay, so I spent a while looking through my bookmarks, which wasn't very fruitful because my organization system sucks (all my bookmarks start with "Bite Sized Bits of Fic" :P), so I searched for "Thor, gay marriage" on this comm and found it, easy!

Autographed? Whoa!!!!! Nice.

Hehe, I don't handle procrastination all THAT well, but I still do it anyway.

Yeah, that told me that even serious academics can be hard-core geeks.
