Date: 2013-09-03 06:23 pm (UTC)Sam glances up, but you have to twist your whole torso to look at Dean. His face is immobile: eyes set, mouth firmly in a line. No telling creases on his forehead or movement of his cheeks. He juts out his chin slightly, and that is all.
Sam murmurs in agreement. You wonder what you have missed. Then Sam pulls out a serrated knife from a belt sheath and you begin wondering about more immediate matters.
For example, how much more pressure Sam would need to apply to break the skin over your collarbone?
“I need to know the last time you saw her,” Sam says. His voice is as calm and even as it has been the entire night.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” you plead. You look between the two brothers, imploring them to believe you this time – just once, that’s all you need and you’re gone. The only other outcome to this is your body cooling on the floor.
The blue light from the TV in the crappy motel room shines on their face and makes them hardly human. You plead in vain.

Date: 2013-03-15 07:55 pm (UTC)"He didn't mean to," Sam breaks in, sullenly. John draws breath to add Sam to his tirade, then sighs.
"Go to bed," he says. "I'll deal with both of you in the morning."
He wakes a few short hours later to greyish light coming through the window, and the first thing he sees is his boys, still asleep on the other bed. They're growing so fast.
His breath catches. "I'm so sorry, Mary," he breathes, like a prayer.
He watches them for a few minutes, watches their chests rise and fall.
"All right," he calls out. "Time to wake up."
If he lets this go, they might not be breathing next time.

Date: 2013-03-15 03:27 am (UTC)His phone ringing gave him a sinking feeling. It was never a good thing when the governor called him at home. Answering he listened as he was told about a case, the sinking feeling having turned to a pit in his stomach. Once again the red sunrise brought disaster for someone.
