Tuesday: Seasonal
Mar. 19th, 2013 10:35 amHello, everyone. I’m still
agirlnamedtruth and despite it not being any particular holiday (that I know of), today's theme is 'Seasonal'. Prompts can be hot and summery, cold and wintery, chocolate filled ready for Easter or that old chestnut that never fails to bring out the schmoop, Christmas. Any holiday or season you wish. Past, present or future. Go wild with the festive cheer!
The rules still haven't changed:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
No spoilers in prompts.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space.
Prompts should be formatted as follows:
Fandom, Character+/Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Merlin, Morgana +/ Any, learning about the festivals of the Old Religion.
+ Supernatural, Any Human +/ Any Angel, explaining Christmas to an Angel.
+ Doctor Who, Eleventh Doctor +/ River Song + Amy/Rory, this is exactly why I don't do Christmas.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Visit the lonely prompt archive and brighten someone’s day.
Have fun and Merry Tuesday!

First?
Date: 2013-03-19 10:41 am (UTC)Re: First?
Date: 2013-03-19 10:21 pm (UTC)Coulson didn't think that was a very good answer.
"That doesn't explain why you turned the sun green," Coulson pointed out.
"We didn't turn the sun green, that would be ridiculous," Tony said, "We made the sun look green by releasing a series of nano-emitters into the atmosphere, it's all perfectly safe, well I mean unless you're dependent on the part of the spectrum that -- well, whatever, it'll be back to normal tomorrow. Or by Thursday. But soon, it'll be back to normal soon."
"And didn't anyone try to stop you?" Coulson said, raising an eyebrow at Pepper.
She laughed at him as she went back to reading her iPad. "Yeah. I'm going to waste my precious little free time talking Tony out of a scheme that won't get him killed."
"And didn't your common sense prevail, Dr. Banner?" Coulson said, turning toward him.
"Ha. That's a joke, right?" Tony said, "This was Bruce's idea!"
Bruce gave Coulson a polite nod and shrug.
"And where were my agents in all of this?"
"Clint was shooting water balloon arrows at the crowds. It was pretty awesome. He drinks a sip of whiskey after every shot, but he still hasn't missed yet. Natasha's picking out the crowd members to shoot," Tony explained.
"Naturally. And so no one here bothered to check if making the sun look green would cause mass hysteria among anyone the drunken crowds. Particularly, when you shouted, "If you see a green sun, it means you drank the bad green beer."
Tony gave a guilty look. "Well, that was just a little experiment in social behavior. We'll write it up into an article."
Coulson sighed. "Tony. Local authorities were able to quell the chaos without major injuries. Through some miracle. But in the future, you will need to run any holiday celebrations that affect the general public by us. That way, we can ensure that we are prepared for any eventualities."
Tony shrugged. "Yeah. Sure, fine. I make the party happen, you guys clean it up. I like that."
"That's not what I said," Coulson answered.
"That's kind of what you said," Bruce pointed out.
"Hey, now that St. Paddy's day is over," Tony said, "We should discuss my plans for Arbor Day. It's going to be spectacular. But there's a slight chance it might change the planet's orbit."
Bruce leaned forward to listen intently to Tony's idea, while Pepper continued to examine the Stark Industry spreadsheets on her iPad. Coulson just turned around to leave.
He was starting to think that he should really consider a transfer.

Fill - Equilibrium
Date: 2013-03-19 03:56 pm (UTC)Spring always had a way of drawing any and everyone in. Spring’s beginning was through the difficulties of death, and its ending was sharp and sudden and hot. But somewhere in between, there was always renewal. A chance for rebirth, regrowth, and regeneration. Spring straddled the line between extremes and sought new life instead.
But without Winter to toughen its successor and pave the way, Spring would be far less effective; untempered by Winter’s power to force a stop, Spring would act too soon and overstay its welcome, until all the world is straining for growth amidst death, with no peace or cleansing in between.
Winter, by contrast, came on the curtails of death and lays it all to rest; all the world is asleep, and Winter is hard at work to keep it so through the long watches of the lengthened nights. But somewhere in its time, it brings it all to end in equal limits. Winter is crisp and frosty, cold as it is when far from the sun, but though it begins in death, it ends in life.
Winter would be a colder, purposeless child-soldier without Spring’s sunny disposition to soften its age, to loom over Winter’s icy protectorship with the promise of a warm reign; unchecked, it would exert itself over death and plummet into a frozen, stagnant demise, with no hope for renewal.
Without Sam, Dean would’ve laid waste to the world in the wake of his own frenzy in cold and bitter degrees, but without Dean, Sam would’ve left the world to wallow, like an absent and aloof king.

Date: 2013-03-19 01:36 pm (UTC)Avengers movieverse, Loki + author's choice, it is never summer in Jotunheimr and never winter in Asgardr
Fill - Loki + Cold - Autumnal Shift
Date: 2013-03-20 01:04 am (UTC)He would barricade himself in his room with the curtains drawn to block out that cursed light, and Thor would plead and pester and bully him to come out in the burning-roasting-far-too-hot-far-too-bright sun, and his skin would blister just at the thought, his insides twisting, squirming, and recoiling like the edges of paper from a flame. Summer was the most dreaded and hated time of the year.
That was something Thor—with his golden disposition and his laughter and warmth and brazen character—would never understand.
When summer at last gave way to fall, he greeted the sun timidly as one would an oft-regretted old accomplice whose betrayals may or may not be petty, but whose companionship one finds hoping to enjoy once more. As the weeks passed, he had an inexplicable longing, an anticipation for something, but that never came.
For when fall disappeared in a blaze of glory to be replaced almost overnight by the bursting cheer of spring, he felt cheated. Like something was missing. He was empty and cold from the inside out, but the world around him was beginning again; he thought he loved spring, for its beauty and warmth as tender as any lover’s caress, but though he ached to warm the chill inside of him, a chill like a dim echo that never originated from him but consumed him as though it were entirely his own, by the cherished heat of the sun, nothing truly filled that hole left by the inexplicable hope that had annually been deferred.
And yet, he should not feel so cold, all over, so utterly frigid when he knew he should feel the warmth that was beginning the climb of its cycle once again.
It was not until he visited Jotunheim, and the cold sank deep into his bones and called to him, that he understood.
Jotunheim had no summer, and its seasons were polar opposites of Asgard’s. Jotunheim’s winter was Asgard’s summer; the ice realm’s mild seasons, first spring and then a fall, were Asgard’s fall and then spring, respectively. He was forever in suspension in Asgard because her seasons ran in converse to the ones wired into his genetic makeup, but he could never be content in the natural order of his seasons either, because Asgard had left her mark.
And yet, when he returned to Asgard, to the land of light and sun and beauty, answers left much to be desired, and displacement set in, because it was warm, and he knew he should not be.

Date: 2013-03-19 09:56 pm (UTC)Coulson wasn't most agents. He calmly informed the director, "Yes, sir. He said that it would be a team-building exercise. Jarvis agreed to hide the eggs."
"And this is how Agent Romanov developed the skills to interrogate an artificial intelligence?" Fury sighed.
"Yes, sir. It appears that she tricked him. Jarvis was quite upset afterward," Coulson answered.
"I know you're not bringing up the feelings of a computer during a briefing, Agent Coulson."
"Of course not, sir. But he was very, very upset. No one had ever tricked him before."
"And the explosion?"
"Stark felt that he was likely in the lead and that a distraction would seal his win," Coulson explained. "No one was hurt."
"Was the explosion what made Banner hulk out?" Fury asked pointedly.
"Um. No. Actually, uh, Clint-"
"Barton. Of COURSE it was Barton," Fury grumbled.
Coulson continued, "Agent Barton and Dr. Banner decided that the Other Guy would have a better chance at reaching the eggs on the roof before Rogers did."
"So... they intentionally brought out the Hulk to beat Captain America to a little painted egg. Is that what you're telling me, Agent?"
"Yes, sir. Again, no one was hurt."
"How much property damage was there?"
"Mr. Stark will be covering the damage," Coulson said, "Since the explosion caused most of it."
"And where was Ms. Potts while Stark was wreaking all of this havoc?"
"She, Jane Foster, Thor, and Natasha had formed an egg-hunting alliance," Coulson explained. Fury stared at the man, who was keeping a perfectly neutral face. Coulson really did have the best deadpan he knew.
"Naturally," Fury said, rolling his eyes. "And you sat by this entire time?"
"I've found it best to leave them alone during their team building exercises," Coulson said. Fury glared.
"Fine," he said eventually. "But I have one more question. What were you doing this whole time, Agent Hill?" He turned his gaze to her.
She answered, "Sir, I have never lost an Easter egg hunt in my life. It would be unbecoming of an officer to give it any less than my best, sir."
Fury looked at the both of them. He had sent them to make sure the Avengers learned to conform to the standards of SHIELD agents. He wasn't sure how, but somehow he seemed to be getting the exact opposite.
Agent Hill added, "You'll be pleased to know that I did indeed win. I joined the Romanoff-Potts alliance and we handily beat the others."
Fury sat down at his desk and growled. "Thrilled, Agent Hill. I am absolutely thrilled."
