Vendredi: Original Characters
May. 3rd, 2013 01:16 amTGIF! The last theme I have for you is Original Characters. Non-canon characters (or characters only mentioned in passing in canon) can give us new points of view on existing events and characters or let us explore new parts of our favorite worlds. Let's play with them today.
Please remember the rules so everyone can have a good time:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts from one fandom at a time.
No spoilers in your prompt until at least one week after the original airing/publication date. If there are spoilers in your fic, warn in bold and leave at least three spaces
Please always use the following format to make it easier on the code monkeys:
Fandom(s), character or pairing, prompt.
And here are a few examples, to get you started.
Les Miserables, Grantaire/omc, trying to forget Enjolras
Les Miserables, a National Guardsman, these revolutionary kids may have a point
Cabin in the Woods, the Japanese girls, saving themselves

Date: 2013-05-06 02:28 am (UTC)You are not a Winchester, Danalyn tells her son every night as she tucks him in. He's too young to understand yet, barely three - but belief is the strongest power of all. Belief can move mountains, can change the outcome...
Belief can raise the dead.
Earl, you are not a Winchester, she says every night, kissing his brow.
He's never met the Winchesters. Will never meet those foolish, foolhardy men. Will never get snared in the trap that is their lives.
Remember, my love, Danalyn says every night. You are not a Winchester.
I know, Mama, he mumbles, closing his eyes.
Eyes just like his father's, and anyone who knows Dean Winchester will know -
But they are cursed, and she will do anything to keep her son safe from the very blood in his veins.

Because Every Rung Counts (1/3)
Date: 2013-05-05 03:27 am (UTC)Crewman Alfred Hodge didn't know how he and Crewman Sufe, an Arkenite female, had managed to get in behind Admiral Admiral Barnett and their newly minted Captain ahead of all the other brass swarming the floor, tailing them as they made their way out of the auditorium. But here they were, two grunts, in the middle of one of the most amazing moment of their lives. Again.
Hodge elbowed Sufe in the ribs. She wiggled an ear at him in return. Not that they weren't all impressed, ecstatic and bursting with all sorts of other crazy unnamed emotions, but Hodge knew that the Captain's official promotion meant a lot to his partner. Arkenites had a thing about groups, and about their groups in particular. It mostly non-competitive, but they took major pride in the size, strength and unusualness of their groups. She'd told him what the formal name was, but he couldn't think of it now. Likely she'd tell him again on the shuttle as she gushed about how great it was for them to belong to this starship at this time. Not that he disagreed with her. Not that anyone on the ship disagreed with her. He was a crewman afterall...he heard things. He knew.
And this was pretty important, too, their Captain's private, impromptu meeting with the same Admiral who had just about kicked him out of 'Fleet. Irony. It was great stuff.
Sufe wiggled her ear at him again. Uh oh, too much joy, not enough paying attention. Hodge tried to contain his grin. The ears he had gotten used to, but it was still freaky never knowing exactly where she was looking.
"...be careful," Admiral Barnett said, his voice deep as he was tall. "You have an amazing crew."
The Captain dipped his head. "I know, sir."
Hodge refused to contain his grin. Beside him, he could feel Sufe humming with pleasure.
"And you know they'd follow you into hell and back."
The Captain nodded. "They already have, sir. And I'd do the same for them."
Turning slightly to slow their progress, Admiral Barnett said, "I've seen the way they look at you."
The Captain's eyebrows went up and that smirk pulled at his lips. Hodge's chin went up. The Captain had every right to smirk. He was the hottest thing out of Star Trek in a generation. But the Captain managed to contain himself as he said, "And how's that, sir?"
"Like a hero. Like a god. Like a best friend. A lover. A father. Someone's favorite brother, maybe favorite son."
The look on the Captain's face would have been comical, should have been comical, if Hodge hadn't been so busy nodding at the Admiral's words. He wouldn't have put it so poetically--words weren't his thing--but that all sounded about right.
"Your crew is totally, completely, head-over-heels, I-hope-this-never-ends in love with you, Captain Kirk."
Hodge quickly glanced at his partner. He'd always wondered if Sufe's big green eyes could glow. He figured a statement like that, so full of matter-of-fact truth, might do the trick.
"Uh, well, I gotta say the feeling's mutual, sir."
Nodding, Barnett turned away and started walking again. "That's very good. That should help you remember who might have to die for that fresh-faced love someday, Captain."
The Captain sputtered. "What?"
