Date: 2013-05-25 03:32 am (UTC)Derek had never imagined that Stiles would be able to go so far, do create so much chaos but it was always the humans in a pack that managed to surprise Derek the most. They were on their last breaths fighting the alphas. Scott was holding his gut with shiny, blood soaked hands. Allison had propped herself up against a tree far enough away that no one would find her. Lydia, Jackson, Danny, and Boyd were back to back facing a circle of wolves that were twenty times more experienced. Blood and sweat covered their skin and seeped from holes in their clothes. Himself? He was a joke of an alpha. All Derek had left was a hope and a prayer that the rest of them would get out alive. Then Stiles showed up even when he swore he wouldn’t.
The bat in his hand wasn’t much of a bat anymore. There were nails spiking out of it like barbs waiting to tear at skin. The entire weapon had been drenched in the liquefied version of wolfs bane he and Deaton had created. Every swing of the bad had the alpha backing up in pain and confusion.
Stiles gave Derek one look and the wolf inside of him knew that Stiles wasn’t ever going to be the same after this. “You promised that they wouldn’t die.”
Those were the words that echoed in Derek’s mind as he watched Stiles. With a heavy blow, Derek felt the warmth of Ethan’s blood dripping against his own face. While Stiles jerked the bat free, he pulled a blade from his waist and carved a smile that didn’t belong that far away from someone’s face. Blood painted Stiles face and his teeth. He killed without any second thought for what he was doing. Four alpha werewolves had been killed by a human who had claimed he hadn’t any fight in him, that his only use was research.
Stiles bought them enough time for Scott to heal up just enough to jump back in the ring. Boyd and Jackson split from the circle and attacked. Derek could finally see, he could shift. And they were all moving in a blur. Blood splattered and the ground sucked the bodies of other wolves dry.
It took both Scott and Boyd to pull Stiles off of the last alpha. He kept pounding his bat into the wolf’s skull.
“Stiles! They’re dead!”
It was always the humans who surprised him. Tonight, Stiles showed him just how much he believed in this pack and Derek wasn’t going to let that go to waste.

Date: 2013-05-24 08:41 pm (UTC)Sandy was the key, the catalyst, like making that final tiny chip of ice come off to make a train that flew. Sandy was the only one of them who had truly interacted with Jack in a positive manner.
North himself had ignored Jack for the most part, except when totaling up his misdeeds at the end of the year (for all that he was a guardian he was still a child, 15 years old when he was made and eternally youthful and mischievous).
Bunny had completely ignored Jack until The Blizzard of '68. Admittedly what Jack had done could have had amazingly bad and far reaching effects, but North is fairly sure that the whole thing hadn't been intended to turn into a blizzard. Bunny's reaction had been a tad too strong, and holding on to that grudge had done no one any favors.
Toothy, well, she was flighty when it came to anything that wasn't teeth and considering her responsibility to her fairies she had hardly gotten out in quite some time. Even if Jack had gotten in to see her the likelihood of her paying him much attention was small.
Sandy had always been the most friendly, the most open; maybe because of him having so much direct interaction with the children. You cannot create such personal things as dreams without knowing intimately your target and loving them, even if the love had to be shown by the fearful touch of Sandy's golden nightmares.
Sandy had seen Jack, perhaps had known him as a human, and had immediately extended his hand without reservation to the child seemingly abandoned by Manny.
It showed in their very interaction. The way Jack was openly playful even in somewhat serious moments when it seemed the others could not see them, the way he wilted like a flower cut too soon when Sandy had died. The pure Joy that had shown on his face when Sandy had been returned to them.
The children aside (for Jack would do anything for the children, they all would, regardless of belief) the one thing that had made all the difference be their victory and the beginning of an era of Cold and Dark, was Sandy's friendship and what it had meant to Jack.
One mistake made out of loneliness and curiosity. One mistake and they had turned on him like a pack of wild dogs.
Sandy would have been ashamed of them all had he been able to see it.

Date: 2013-05-25 05:06 pm (UTC)The moment he realized he couldn't see had been the most terrifying in his life. Not because he would miss seeing so much; his eyes have witnessed horrible things, some of which were performed by his own eyes. He'd actually love to be free of the obligation to look the world in the eye and face all his sins. There were so many... Way too many. But no; he was afraid because the last thing Roy Mustang wanted to feel was helplessness, and without his eyesight how could he be of any use to anyone in his current state.
But Roy wasn’t a quitter, and he won’t give up so easily. It didn’t take him longer than moments to realize that he couldn’t let his blindness make him useless, and thankfully, Hawkeye was there for him. Together with her, he could still fight. He could still use his skills, using her as his eyes, because Roy Mustang wasn’t the kind of man who would let a minor detail such as the loss of his eyesight stop him.
He believed that when they fought that creature, the father of all Homonculus, the monster that declared itself God, and he kept believing that after it all ended. He was dragged to the hospital for all his wounds to be taken care of, but he didn’t mind that. The Fuhrer was dead, and the country needed a new leader. Someone who could see for their future to make it a better place to live in; he truly believed he was the best choice. He would make Amestris a democracy and give the people the peace they deserved and never got. He’d make it up for the people of Ishval, and everyone who lost so much in the name of power, by those who didn’t deserve it.
The fact that he couldn’t see meant nothing, because his mind was still sharp as a blade, and the future was clearer than ever.
