Wednesday - Getting from Point A to
Aug. 21st, 2013 05:30 amGood morning and happy hump day! I’m
evil_little_dog and today's theme is Transportation. Each prompt must have some mention of transportation or travel in it.
The rules still haven't changed:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
No spoilers in prompts.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space.
Prompts should be formatted as follows:
Fandom, Character+/Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
- NCIS, Gibbs+Tony+Abby, Classic car show
- Fullmetal Alchemist, Alphonse(+Any), He's good with cats, no so good with horses.
- The X-Files, Scully+/Mulder, Arguing over who's driving this time
- Star Trek (any), Any captain/commander, To really make an entrance, you need a starship.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Visit the lonely prompt archive and brighten someone’s day. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.

Date: 2013-08-21 10:35 am (UTC)Fill: Harry Potter, Sirius/Remus, G
Date: 2013-08-21 07:55 pm (UTC)"What is that?"
Sirius pouts just a little, but his excitement is glittering in his eyes and he flings an arm around Remus' shoulders, pulling him close. "That, Moony, is my new set of wheels."
Remus rolls his eyes. "I can see that, I just-"
"What?"
"Well, it looks... expensive."
It does, that's the thing. They've been out of Hogwarts a few months, the lot of them, but Remus still doesn't have a job and he doubts that's going to change any time soon. Their flat in London is expensive - and that's with Sirius paying for most of it. Remus is afraid he's only going to be able to take so much and then-
Sirius presses a kiss to his temple and his grip on Remus' shoulder never loosens. "Let's go for a test drive, shall we?"
Before Remus can protest, Sirius picks up the helmet and thrusts it into his hands. "Come on, you know I'm not messing up my hair."
Remus resists the urge to roll his eyes again - really, he's touched by the gesture, though if they're going to keep this up, Sirius is definitely buying another helmet. Sirius straddles the bike easily, letting the engine roar in the quiet of the early morning. "C'mon Moony, we don't have all day."
Remus grins, though behind the visor Sirius can't see it. He sits on the bike tentatively, his hands gentle on Sirius' waist. Sirius grabs them and pulls him closer, until he's flush against Sirius' back.
"Don't be shy now," Sirius says and when he turns to look at Remus, his smile is full of filthy promises. Remus digs his fingers into Sirius' abs in retort.
Then they're off, not going all down that fast down the street, but Remus gets into it eventually. He likes the feeling of the wind catching at his clothes and the way they swerve around corners. There's little in the way of morning traffic on a Sunday so it's nice, almost like it's just the two of them.
They head out of the city, past the pretty little houses and towards the countryside. Sirius slows the bike down on an empty road and then stops completely. Remus flips up the visor on the helmet and gives him a questioning look.
"You want to see what this thing can really do?" Sirius asks - and while Remus knows, really, that Sirius wouldn't give up until he got on the bike and went for a ride, this is a little different. This is Sirius checking it's okay.
"Why not?" Remus replies and Sirius' face lights up beautifully. He twists in place - it must hurt his back to do it - and kisses the tip of Remus' nose.
"Hold on tight," he says. Remus nods and flips the visor of the helmet back down, securing his grip on Sirius' waist.
They set off again, but now they're accelerating fast and Remus is caught between exhilaration and fear as the trees whip by. They take on another burst of speed and Remus feels the change, rather than sees it. A kind of weightlessness, though they're still going forward.
He lifts his head and looks around. They're- They're flying?!
He laughs almost giddily and in front, Sirius lets out a whoop of excitement.
They're flying.

Date: 2013-08-21 10:38 am (UTC)Torchwood: Miracle Day // Jack+Esther // PG-13
Date: 2013-08-21 05:52 pm (UTC)At length, Esther allowed herself the luxury of a slightly choked chuckle, a soft sound, just audible over the music.
"Hm?" Jack asked, sleepily, shifting as he awakened. "Something I said?"
"No, I was just thinking. I hope I didn't disturb you."
"Nah, pain drugs are wearing down; I was awake anyway."
"Want me to stop and find you another dose?" she asked, glancing to the large satchel in the passenger seat beside her. Their supply of painkillers had run down and they had miles to go before they reached the next town with a good pharmacy.
"I'm good, just restless and tired of sleeping. And you probably need someone to talk to and keep you alert."
She let herself smile a bit. He might not be willing to volunteer information about himself, but get him talking about his adventures and the strange things he had seen and she would have no trouble staying awake. "Yeah, the radio's nowhere as good company as you are."
"In that case, care to tell me what made you giggle there?"
"Oh, it was nothing. I was just thinking of a TV show I used to watch as a kid, with my dad. It was about a guy on the run from the police for something he didn't do."

Pale Rider on a Pale Horse
Date: 2013-08-23 09:42 am (UTC)Once, Loki did not know that he could weave magic to fool the Allfather, but then his younger children were banished and bound, and Loki was bitter and furious and...
And he did it. He wove his illusions around a fine horse that he fed with the golden apples that grant forever youth, and he lead Sleipnir away through the secret paths in between the known worlds.
They stepped off into a Midgard desert where the night air was chill, and there was Methos. "Old man," Loki greeted. "It has been some time."
Methos' gaze lingered for a moment on Sleipnir, and he smiled. "Little trickster. So this is your eldest."
"Yes. Take him in?"
Methos raised an eyebrow. "Well, I'm honoured." He raised a palm to Sleipnir, who nudged it and snuffled.
So Loki returned to Asgard, his son well-hidden, and continued to feed the golden apples to the impostor. If the horse grew more clever as the centuries passed, well, it made the trick all the more convincing.
~
"That is a fine horse, brother," says Kronos, and there is covetousness in his voice.
Methos frowns. "Yes, and he is mine."
Kronos' lip curls, but he bows his head ever so slightly; acceptance, at least for now. Methos allows himself to relax.
He would fight Kronos for Sleipnir, if he pressed. Sleipnir would fight, too, and he is his dam's son. Kronos would not win, and his wounded pride would make him even more vicious than usual...
That might be entertaining, actually. But not, ultimately, worth it.
Silas calls, his voice a deep rumble as it always is, and Sleipnir's ears twitch. He trots toward Silas, eager for the treat that he knows the incongruously kindly killer brings.
Methos smiles.
Tomorrow they will raid and kill, Methos with his sword and Sleipnir with his trampling hooves; six more of them than any but Methos will see. Ragnarök is, for the most part, a self-fulfilling prophecy, but there is nonetheless a spark of it in Sleipnir's blood.
What more fitting companion for pale Death?

Fill: "East of Omaha"
Date: 2013-08-21 05:27 pm (UTC)As Clark the man, he first learned to ride a bike. Then he learned how to drive a tractor, and then a car. Eventually, he’d always gotten where he’d wanted to go.
As Clark the reporter, he’d flown in planes countless times to destinations both known and unknown. He’d traveled by rail in Bijapur, trekked though the Panamanian rainforest in a Jeep (and then on foot when the Jeeps couldn’t cut it), even rode a donkey outside of Quilmes.
As Kal-El, he’d traveled to Earth in a rocket ship (if it happened in a time of his life where he could actually remember the trip, he’d probably say this was one of the coolest ways to travel).
Clark Kent has traveled a lot in his life.
But nothing, absolutely nothing, beats flying under your own power.
Because of Earth’s yellow sun, Clark had gained the ability to fly around the same time he got his driver’s license. It had started when he was little, when he would race the bus to school and win. It progressed to being able to jump from the roof of the barn to the silo without touching the ground.
And then, when he turned sixteen, he jumped up and didn’t come back down. But then he lost his concentration and gravity took back over.
Turns out, flying has a steep learning curve.
But he quickly mastered it, just as he had his rollerblades and the combine (though the skateboard incident is never talked about). And the freedom that comes with flying is the best feeling in the world: the wind in your face, dancing with the clouds, rising over thunderstorms, orbiting the earth.
Clark Kent has traveled a lot in his life, but if you ask him, no one has it better than Superman.

Date: 2016-03-25 12:01 pm (UTC)“No, John, we walk.”
“Don’t tell me, you can’t ride a bike.”
“That … is true.”
“Okay, you walk, I’ll cycle and wait for you there.”
“No, no, you can’t do that.”
“Why ever not?”
“You just can’t.”
“Sherlock, you’re not afraid of bicycles are you?”
“I blame Mycroft.”
“You normally do.”
“When I was small I had a red tricycle I was very proud of. One day I saw Mycroft go out on his bike and I decided to follow him. I’m sure he knew I was there, but he pretended to ignore me and then took a windy route. I followed as best I could but I lost him. It started to rain and I was wet and alone and I … well, I cried. And then Mycroft ‘found’ me and took me home. He made me pedal as fast as I could and if I didn’t he deliberately went out of sight. By the time I got home I was cold, tired, wet through and miserable.”
“So you want me to walk there, at your pace, which will leave me feeling tired and probably miserable? You can walk, you can’t get lost, it’s a straight road, I’m going to ride.”
