Tuesday:Babies
Sep. 10th, 2013 12:00 amHey Y'all :)
langstonlover here with your second theme of the week. I hope everyone had fun with my wild west theme yesterday, and I hope you have even more fun today because I've picked another one of my favorite writing topics for Tuesday's theme. Today's theme will be Babies!!!
Anything goes today as long as it has something to do with babies. This includes, Pregnancy, labor/delivery, or raising a baby. You can even have one of your characters stuck baby sitting if you'd like Lol. Or ofcourse you could also do my favorite fanfic genre in the world, which is Mpreg :) Have fun everyone!!!
Rules are the same as always
No more than five prompts in a row.

“You are so pathetic,” Steve teased, watching as Danny handed a popsicle to Grace and one to Keagan, Steve’s nine year old son from an on-again, off-again relationship he’d had when he was in the Navy.
“Pathetic? Me? What’re you talking about?” Danny asked innocently.
“I know what you’re doing.”
“Really? What am I doing?”
“You’re feeding them popsicles because they’re leaving for summer camp tomorrow and they’re both a little nervous. You, my friend, are sucking up.”
“That’s no different than taking them to the North Shore the other morning before their doctor appointment,” Danny replied.
“Excuse me? I just wanted to take our kids surfing. There was no ulterior motive.”
“Oh? Is there something wrong with the waves that’re practically in our backyard?”
“Except for the fact that we surf them every day, no.”
“You took them to the North Shore because you felt bad that they both had to get a shot. Just admit it.”
“Don’t think for one second that I don’t know what you did,” Steve argued back.
“What do you mean?”
“Did you really expect me to believe that trip to the drive-in movies wasn’t anything special? One look at the kids’ SpongeBob band-aids covering their little boo-boos and you had to make it all better.”
“Hey, shots hurt, man,” Danny said defensively.
Steve and Danny paused and looked at their kids then back at each other.
“Are we spoiling them too much?” Steve asked.
“Daddy?”
“What, guys?” Steve and Danny said in unison.
“Tommy DiMarco threw a coconut at Lily’s bike yesterday and now the chain’s all messed up,” Grace said.
“Tommy DiMarco sounds like a bully,” Danny said.
“Maybe we should bring him down to the station and have a little talk with him,” Steve added.
Grace giggled at her dads as she continued. “Her mom tried to fix it but it’s stuck really good.”
“I said I could fix it but I might need a little help,” Keagan said. “Will you help us?”
“’cause Lily doesn’t have a daddy,” Grace reminded them.
“We’d love to,” Danny said.
“Yeah,” Steve agreed, “we’ll fix it up good as new.”
“Thank you,” Grace said.
“You’re welcome, Monkey.”
“Lily’s gonna be really happy,” Grace told Keagan as they walked back over to the couch.
“If she ever needs help again you can just give her my phone number,” Keagan said helpfully.
Steve and Danny listened in as their kids walked away.
“No,” Danny said. “The answer to your question is no, we’re not spoiling them too much and there’s your proof. We’re teaching them kindness and compassion and that there is actually good in this world.”
“Well I’d say whatever we’re doing is working because we have two amazing kids, Danno,” Steve said as he rested his head against Danny’s and looked lovingly at their kids.
Danny smiled proudly and wrapped his arm around Steve’s waist. “You can say that again.”
End.

Date: 2013-09-11 03:16 pm (UTC)Steve plops the bags down in the middle of the living room, making a nest of white and red plastic. "Babies need lots of stuff. At least that's what the clerk told me." He puts his hands on his hips. "Is Jason okay?"
"Steve, you were only gone for an hour. He's fine. He's napping upstairs."
"He's in the crib, right?"
"No, doofus, he's in the bathtub. Of course he's in the crib. I have done this before, you know. Unlike some people we could mention."
Steve gives him the evil eye, then runs up the stairs two at a time. "Grab the diapers. I'm going to see how he's doing. He probably needs to be changed, right?" He disappears before Danny can respond, leaving Danny to forage in the bags for the diapers.
He finds Steve in Mary's old room, which has been turned into a nursery. Steve looks down at Jason, his two-month old nephew. "He's asleep, you were right," Steve says. There's something in his eyes that Danny's never seen before. Some of the hardness is gone, replaced with soft wonder. Then he rubs his hands together briskly, as if preparing to hack through five miles of jungle with a machete. "Well, better wake him up to change him."
"No, no, no, no, no." Danny restrains Steve with a hand on his arm. "Rule number one of parenting: never wake a sleeping baby. You'll learn that soon enough because when he wakes up at 3 am bawling his eyes out, you'll appreciate the afternoon nap."
Steve scowls. "So what do we do?"
"Um. We wait. We let him sleep."
"Oh. I feel like I should be doing something. I bought all that stuff."
"Nope. Just change him when he wakes up." Danny puts the bulky package of diapers on the changing table.
"I guess I'll take some out so we're ready." Steve rips into the package and pulls out a few. He unfolds one and holds it out with a frown.
Danny sighs. "Steve. Did you notice there are sizes for those things?"
"Er, no. I didn't. I guess I thought one size fits all? I mean, all babies are small, right?"
Danny grabs the package. "It says for 27 pounds and up, babe. It goes by weight. You need like, Size 2 or 3, I don't know, I mean, how much does he weigh?"
Steve scrubs his face. "I have no idea. Crap."
"We can estimate." Danny rubs Steve's back because the guy looks like he's going to lose it.
Jason stirs and lets out a wail that could probably be heard on the mainland. Steve stiffens and his eyes widen. "Oh my god. What do we do?"
"Just watch me." Danny picks up the baby and pats his back, bouncing him up and down. "There, there. Uncle Danny's here." Jason sputters and spits, then quietly nuzzles his head against Danny's shoulder.
"How'd you do that?" Steve asks.
"Nothing special. You'll get the hang of it."
Jason lets out a blorbing sound from his little butt. Danny grins at Steve. "Okay, now we got a problem. Size 5 diapers aren't going to cut it. Didn't Mary leave some diapers with you?"
Steve's face morphs from a look of horror to a grin. "You know, I think she did. Let me check the stuff she left." He rummages in the baby supplies Mary'd left with him and comes up with a teensy diaper half the size of the ones he bought at Target. "Eureka."
"Awesome." Danny lays Jason down on the changing table and starts to unsnap his onesie. "Rule number two of parenting: don't breathe through your nose when changing a poopie diaper."
"Makes sense."
