He didn't need to look to see who it was.
“Hello, Sam.”
Sam smiled, just a little. “I was waiting for you.”
There was a pause slight before Death answered, and Sam knew he'd surprised him. “You're not surprised,” Death commented. He stopped in front of them, calmly watching. Sam didn't bother craning his head back to look at him. Dean was probably dying, and he wasn't in much better shape.
Sam smiled, just a little. “To see you? No, not really.” He let his head fall back, against the wall. It was getting harder to breathe, and harder to hear Dean's breath.
“You've always fought, before.” Mildly curious, as if it didn't really matter to him. It probably didn't.
“We decided, Dean and I.” Absently, he combed his fingers through his brother's hair as he paused to catch his breath. “After Heaven and Hell. After all the demons and angels. We decided.”
Death squatted down, looking mildly curious. “What did you decide, Sam?”
Sam smiled. It was a look that said he'd fight even Death himself to get what he wanted. “We go together. Or not at all.”
