And I thought it wanted to be Coulson/May, but then I reread it and it could be Clint/Natasha, but for some reason I can't get anything written for either.

no pressure though - all your fics are fun!
Re: not a fill, but...
Date: 2014-12-20 04:34 am (UTC)I'll keep seeing if I can make it work for either of them. Today's been a weird day for writing. I've been either been very inspired or very blocked and just when I think I can't come up with something, I do, so I may be able to do something with it later. It's such a great song and I want to do it. I'm probably just intimidated again.
Circled Back
Date: 2014-12-20 11:40 pm (UTC)The rain was coming in through the broken window the first time she told him that love was for children. He pretended not to hear her.
He wasn't moving the second time he heard the words. His leg had been shattered by the bullet he'd taken. He was fortunate. It hadn't hit his arm. He could still shoot. He could use his bow. He couldn't do it on his feet, but he could still kill if it was necessary. She watched over him anyway, waiting for him to be able to move so they could leave this place. He didn't know why she said it. He didn't ask.
He was drunk the third time. His last relationship had failed, and he supposed she thought it was sympathetic of her to say. He didn't agree, and he only didn't hit her because she was his partner.
He was unimpressed by guns. People who used them didn't have any real talent or skill. Natasha was different. Her skills went far beyond guns. Today they weren't enough. His bow wasn't enough. A lot of innocent people had died.
“Don't say it.”
She frowned.
She did not speak, but somehow he heard the words anyway.
He was just about done with everything after Loki took him.
“Love is for children.”
She said those words. Not to Clint, but to Loki. They were the last straw.
“How can you say love is for children?”
“Clint—”
“After our childhoods, how can you dare say that?”

Date: 2014-12-21 05:00 am (UTC)The whole thing came out of Clint asking her how she dared say it, and I knew it would be painful, but I think pain is part of what connects them and makes their bond as strong as it is.

Date: 2013-12-21 01:28 pm (UTC)original, mentions of spousal abuse and murder
Date: 2013-12-24 05:23 pm (UTC)"Hey," she says softly, kneeling to place a single sunflower on the frosted grass. "Michal left this morning. She promised to call, but she just couldn't live in the house anymore." She laughs softly. "Davya is still seeing your ghost. I've given up explaining that it means nothing, that even if you're still here, it's not her you'd be angry at."
She stands in silence for a few moments, eyes following the words engraved on the stone. "Ryel is almost as tall as you, now. He doesn't even ask about you anymore. I'm not sure what I'd say, to be honest." She laughs again.
A quick smile crosses her face before she puts on a solemn expression. "Another year has come and gone, my love. Our children are nearly all grown, now. You missed Davya's thirteen and fourteenth birthdays; you know how important those are." She pats the stone. "Our youngest will one be as gifted I am, as my mother is."
Her laugh is loud, this time, and long. "I'm sure, though, you'd think of it differently."
She lets a few more minutes pass in silence before murmuring, "When the words on the stone fade, you will be forgotten. None of our children will ever speak your name. My sisters do not; my mother shall not. And never again will it pass my lips. You are nameless."
She pats the stone one more time. "I bled at your hands; I wept at your rage. You will pay for that, and for our children, and for the god you insulted with my pain."
Her gaze flicks to the sunflower, already wilted and rotting. "Fare thee well, darling," she murmurs, before turning and walking away.
