Thursday: In Space
Jul. 31st, 2014 06:33 amHello, everyone. I’m
marlex and today's theme is In Space. The world is huge, but final frontier is even bigger, so today's prompts can be anything about space, whether it's sending a character into space, a space AU, crossovers, or fandoms that are already in space.
The rules still haven't changed:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
No spoilers in prompts.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space.
Prompts should be formatted as follows:
Fandom, Character+/Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
NCIS/Star Trek: TNG, ensemble + ensemble, Star Fleet Criminal Investigation Service Senior Agent Leroy Gibbs and his team are sent to investigate a murder on board the U.S.S. Enterprise
Young Wizards, Nita + her father, taking her father on a botanical tour of the galaxy
Wreck-It Ralph, Ralph + Vanellope, Space Invaders
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Visit the lonely prompt archive and brighten someone’s day. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.

Date: 2014-12-09 11:47 am (UTC)So blue, and quiet. So peaceful, and firm. Standing there, in the middle of space, with several billion lives going about their business without a thought as to how miraculous they are. How miraculous it is, their safe blue lagoon.
She rests her forehead against the quartz glass, smiles.
She’s never going to see anything like this again, they’re never going to see anything like this again. Beyond them waits the universe, so shining and bright. She can only hope that there’s anything so beautiful out there.

Date: 2014-07-31 10:36 am (UTC)Original Poem: We Fashioned Wings
Date: 2014-07-31 08:51 pm (UTC)from random, scattered terestial things:
abandoned hopes, forgotten dreams
woven with love to make the seams.
We made a ship of sinew and sweat
and climbed the stars where once we met
before we wandered back in time,
hoping for a brighter clime.
We thought the earth in younger days
could be a home for future strays;
we thought we could return again
now that it was free of men.
"There is no earth," we now declare,
but also true, "We do not care."
Our home is in these ancient wings,
the stars of space, our love that sings.

Date: 2014-07-31 10:53 am (UTC)Fill - Space Crazy 1/3 (The A-Team TV)
Date: 2014-07-31 05:19 pm (UTC)Space Crazy
If someone had asked Riona what was the one thing she didn't want to be doing today, an unexpected space walk in a blacked-out evac suit while being kidnapped ... probably wouldn't even have occurred to her, but rest assured that if it had she would have been clear about the not wanting to part.
The shock as her mag-boots hit a metal surface was a relief she didn't even dare to name, and she completely did not care that she'd started hyperventilating the second her hands and knees hit whatever floor it was after them. Someone toggled her visor, alien hands beside her head, and then she could see again, she could see the loading bay around her and the light changing as the external doors slid closed and the sudden brightness as they shut out the airless void behind her. Joy, oh joy, she had never been so happy to see internal lighting come up in her life.
"Well," said a cheerful voice above her, "that went surprisingly well, didn't it?"
"Face, as always, you have a remarkable talent for understatement," said a second one, and abruptly there was a hand under Riona's arm, and her kidnappers gently hauled her back to her feet between them. She blinked wildly, faced abruptly with two human males, one sporting grey hair and a manic grin, the other blond and somehow contrite-looking. "Now we just have to get everyone settled and have Murdock bug out of here. That ship won't stay silent for long."
"Oh my god," Riona managed, staring at them. "Are you people space pirates?! What the hell did I do that I'm getting kidnapped by space pirates!"
They blinked at her, bemused. "Well," said the blond, hesitating a bit. "Firstly, we're more rescuing you than kidnapping you. And we're not pirates, as such. We're more mercenaries, really. Just, ah. Illegal ones. In space. With the odd stolen spaceship. But not pirates. We don't usually hijack people? It's not piracy unless you hijack people and rob them, I think."
Riona stared at him. She looked down at her stolen evac suit and their hands still wrapped supportingly around her arms, and looked back up with a rather more skeptical look than she thought you were probably supposed to give your kidnappers. You weren't supposed to antagonise people like that, she figured that, but honestly?
"Ah," the blond started, a sheepish and startlingly handsome smile abruptly creeping across his face. "Sometimes rescues can look a bit like kidnappings? And sometimes there's a bit of overlap between mercenary work and piracy. Once in a while."
"And there's that understatement again," the older man murmured, and the look on his face was pirate through-and-through. Riona had never seen a more piratical grin in her life. "Face, would you escort our guest up to the cockpit while I see to our good sergeant? I'd like to get out of here sometime today."
Face shook his head, still smiling fit to break hearts. Not that Riona was looking at it or anything. "Sure thing, Hannibal," he said, with a tip of his head that looked surprisingly genuine. "Better you than me, that's for sure."

Date: 2014-08-02 09:21 pm (UTC)Jim knitted his eyebrows together; that was the vaguest and most passive aggressively polite "drop what you're doing and come explain yourself" he had ever heard Spock utter. And there had been plenty.
As he made his way over to Spock's private chambers, he tried to come up with the reason Spock summoned him. And then he wondered how he got so whipped by his first officer in the first place. He was the captain, damnit!
He solemnly sore not to let himself be jerked around by his pointy eared right hand man any longer. Starting tomorrow, when he was sure Spock wasn't going to lynch him for what he did now.
"Captain, thank you for coming."
Jim quirked an eyebrow. "Please, drop the act, we both know I had no choice."
"You always have a choice, Captain, since you are the highest ranking--"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever. What did I do now?"
Spock merely stepped aside to show him his private communications screen, currently playing a loop of a flying animated space ship. Oh, he knew exactly what he had done.
"What is this, Jim?"
Oh, this wasn't good. He used Jim's first name. But Jim pasted on his most innocent smile and shrugged. "New screen saver?"
If Spock would succumb to such things as exasperation, he would have rolled his eyes and sighed. As it was, he merely cocked his head and quirked an eyebrow.
"So it would seem. This one is different though."
"Different how?" As if he didn't know.
Spock reached to the screen and pressed the sound button. Try as he might, Jim was unable to not bark out a laugh at the loud "Piiiiiigs Innnnnn Spaaaaaaaaace" coming from Spock's screen.
Spock looked unimpressed.
"Why is this on my communications screen, Captain?"
Jim grinned. "Oh, so I'm back to being "Captain" again? You secretly like it, Spock, admit it."
Spock straightened and loftily muted the screen saver again. "I won't admit any such thing."
But Jim just grinned harder. "Whatever you say, Spock. Was that all? I do have a ship to run, you know."
"And yet you found the time to change my private screen saver to something childish and futile."
Jim shrugged and headed for the door with a mock salute. "What can I say, I have my priorities in order."
Three months later, Jim finds himself in Spock's quarters for a quick conference on how to handle exploring the planet they were currently orbiting, when Spock's screen saver flips on with a loud "Piiiiiigs Innnnnn Spaaaaaaaaace".
It was the first time Jim saw Spock blush.

The woman with the gun tilts her head. "Doctor. River." She then turns her head up and laughs. "Playing mind games now are we, Doctor? Cheeky thing. I'll have his goose for this."
The crew just stands there, slack-jawed, as she leaves the ship just as she came, which Mal is still kind of iffy on the details of.
"Is it just me or was that the weirdest thing that's ever happened on my ship?"
"Who was that?" Wash asked, utterly perplexed.
River turns and gives him a half smile. "Spoilers."
