[identity profile] synnerxx.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] comment_fic
hi everyone,

i'm one of the mods here at comment_fic, but in light of recent questions and concerns, it's become clear to me that i just don't have the time to devote to this comm and maintain it the way it needs to be. the delicious archive is a mess, not having been updated since before i took over it seems, and i originally wanted to look into moving it somewhere else, but life happened as it tends to and that was one thing that fell through the cracks and i apologize for that.

so. here's what's going to happen. the current mod/maintainer team consists of [livejournal.com profile] cashay, [livejournal.com profile] enochia, [livejournal.com profile] evil_little_dog, [livejournal.com profile] simplyn2deep, [livejournal.com profile] theeverdream, and [livejournal.com profile] zelda_addict. it's up to them if one of them or all of them want to continue working as a mod/maintainer and take over my place as owner of the comm. i'm sure they'll need volunteers to help out with the transition and maybe become mods, so if you have any interest, let us know in the comments that you're willing to lend a hand. it would be much appreciated.

it's been fun. i've read a lot of great fics here and wrote a lot of fics here, but sadly, LJ seems to be a dying platform for fandom and this comm just doesn't seem to get the amount of traffic it used too. (i've seen posts with 2000+ comments. now we're lucky to break 100+). and that's to be expected. fandom is an evolving organism and things change. it's all good.

if there's no interest in keeping this comm going with the daily posts, then i'll keep the comm open because i don't want anyone to lose any fics they love/wrote, but there won't be anymore posts. feel free to fill older prompts though. the delicious archive most likely will stay the same as it is now, unless someone(s) just want to clean it up, even without the comm.

the floor is open for discussion.

thank you for the all words. i'm sorry i just don't have the time to give this comm because it is one of my favorites and i did a lot of my best work here.

I haven't participated by writing yet, because it's just too high-volume for me, and I can't keep up with the comments, but I did start reading through the comm from the beginning for fandoms that interest me. It's slow going, and I'd hate to see the comm go away. Commentfic is hard to write (at least for me) but it's a great way to take a break from real life for a few minutes.

Something I can do, if there is any interest, is put the delicious archive into a GDocs spreadsheet, which would be sortable by fandom. It would take time, clearly, and then more time to mine through the daily posts for unfilled prompts, but I'm not going anywhere, and spreadsheets are something I enjoy making. It might be easier for some people to find unfilled prompts. And the spreadsheet could coexist with the delicious archive, for that matter.

That sounds like a fantastic idea. I (and I think some others) tend to bookmark prompts that I may want to write for when I see them but browsing lonely prompts isn't the easiest thing to do.

There are cases where you start watching a show and are late to the fandom and in those cases it would be good to go back and find prompts related to your new fannish interest.

Am an Excel fan (not joking) and love that spreadsheets are easy to filter/sort. Since links to Google docs are so convenient to share, it'd be great to track the prompts.

Yes, GDocs are super-easy to share. And they are so easy to use, too, even if one doesn't have editing rights.

I'm using them now for our Capstone project and love the convenience that allows five of us to work on a project at once.

Yes. I do nearly all my writing on GDocs, and my betas see everything from the first letter typed on the page. My writing is very much a "village" project, as far as suggestions/corrections/etc goes.

I tried to reply to your top comment but LJ's being weird so here it is again.

That's a wonderful idea. I find it easier to find prompts on a spreadsheet than on the delicious archive.

I'd be happy to help if you want/need it.

Cool. Let me get it started, so I can see what I'm going to need in the way of assistance.

My only issue with Google docs is that if it's all in one file it'd take a long time to load and would plain just not load for people with slower connections.

Perhaps it could be split by fandom?

A doc for those beginning A-F, G-K, L-R & S-Z.

Would it still end up slow for whichever file had MCU or Supernatural on it?

Hey, that's a great idea! And there could be two spreadsheets, one for filled prompts and one for unfilled ones, sortable by fandom, character or theme of the day.

And maybe people could volunteer to help find the unfilled prompts from March 30, 2013 to now--the ones that aren't on Delicious? I'd be willing to do that.

I would totally be willing to host two spreadsheets!

Finding fills is pretty hard and time-consuming, too. That's why I'm working my way so slowly forward. lol

Ooh. Help finding the unfilled prompts would be most welcome. I can't start on it just yet, because I had a death in the family, but I'll be getting back to my normal schedule later this week.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Great! I've started compiling lists and links of filled and unfilled prompts for March 30, 2013 to April 6, 2013. I've put the lists in a document in Google Docs; I'll share it with you when I'm done.

Warning: there are a TON of unfilled prompts.

Yeah. Just mining through the delicious prompts was pretty time-consuming. Took me over a week to figure out and record the ones I wanted. I can't even imagine how many there are on the comm itself. That's okay. I can use a project.

The gdocs idea is awesome, I've never been able to navigate the delicious account! And hey I'll start prompting BSG if you wanna hang out here more :D

I don't have time to write just yet, but I'll totally take BSG prompts. I keep several GDocs with unfilled prompts that ping in my head. Sometimes it's months before the story fills itself out, and of course I have some that I haven't written yet.

Pages and spreadsheets and charts and lists. lol I am a GDocs addict, and my muse likes a LOT of ideas from which to choose. She's ficklet. Or has ADD. Not sure which.

I remember you once saying you had a spreadsheet for birthdays and I thought, that lady is organized and was impressed :)

I've been keeping an eye out hoping someone prompts BSG cuz I still have yet to write anything for it! Maybe there are some lonely prompts out there waiting to be discovered :)

Organized in a very weird, Aquarian way. lol

Oh gosh, this sounds like a fantastic idea. It would obviously take you some time but you'd be doing a lot of us a favor because like [livejournal.com profile] scripps said, sometimes you get into a fandom way later and then trying to remember where those prompts were is... a mess right now.

I'd be happy to do it. I'll try to get started on something later this week. I'm still recovering from the hell of last week.
