Date: 2014-08-29 11:47 pm (UTC)Tony flung Loki's hand away. "Some would say Manhattan counts as alien, but as far as I know, it's still the good old US of A." His jaw clenched as Loki's hand landed on his shoulder. Then he circled around Tony, the swishing of his cloak grating on Tony's nerves. "Hey, who does your costumes, anyway?" Tony threw out. "I got a guy in the Fashion District, he'll do 'em for you cheap, just let me know."
Loki ignored Tony's chatter. This 'being,' human or not, intrigued him. He could sense the workings of his mind, chugging away like one of those human machines, oblivious to everything around him. He was not like the others. Loki stood directly behind the man, put his hands on both of his shoulders. Strong, solid. He let his thumbs brush across the surface, a touch of a caress. He could feel the man's body tense against him. "You're not like the others. You're smarter."
Loki rounded to Tony's front. "Aren't you?" They stood staring at each other, bodies held tight. "There's something inside you." Loki glanced at the glowing circle in Tony"s chest. "You run on different power. Don't try to deny it, I can feel it."
Tony's face clamped shut.
Loki leaned in close. He breathed in the man's face. "You're not really alive, are you?" The faintest of flinches shuddered through the man's body. Loki's mouth twitched with satisfaction.
"It's magic!" Tony held his arms out. "You're like, supernatural or something, right? I thought you could tell."
The man was either toying with him or telling the truth. Loki wasn't sure which. Again their gazes locked as Loki contemplated the nature of the being before him. He stepped back, keeping his eyes on Tony. "You will remain here while I determine your true nature, human."
"You can call me Tony."
Loki nodded. "Er, Tony." These humans were so familiar. Yet he found he did not mind calling this one by his first name. "Tony. Yes, I will call you that."
"All righty then."

Date: 2014-08-29 05:08 pm (UTC)“What’s going on?” Kennex asked.
“It’s this,” Dorian replied. He snapped his fingers and a couple of butterflies appeared and flew round the office. “Only there’s a problem.”
He pointed at one of the MXs, which snapped its fingers, only to produce two caterpillars. The MX didn’t look best pleased.
“And if I do this,” Dorian clapped his hands and a small rabbit appeared and hopped across the floor.
The MX copied the action and a snail appeared.
“They’re demanding an upgrade.”
“Which they are not going to get.” Sandra Maldonado appeared next to Kennex. “I have enough trouble in here without being overrun with rabbits as well.”
“Rudy’s on his way,” Dorian said.
“Well, I just hope he’s brought his magic wand,” Kennex replied, earning himself a glare from Maldonado.

one.
Once, a lifetime ago, he wished for a family. You can steal a lot of things on the street, just about anything you need to survive, but you can't take that - not exactly.
What he gained was a father, a brother, a sister. A mask and a cape and a whole other life.
And ultimately, a death sentence.
two.
Jason didn't pray, never had. His dad had been gone too often to talk about god or whoever, and his stepmom, well – much as she might have tried, once, she was kind of living proof that if there was a god, he had a real fucked up sense of humor when it came to family.
So no, when death creeps up on him that first time, fifteen and headstrong and Robin, he doesn't pray. He wishes, thinks (like anyone would) I don't want to die, and the fuse blows and he gets his wish.
More or less.
He has to crawl out of a grave for it, but that's just life, isn't it?
three.
He wishes for safety. For Gotham to clean itself up. The nights are long and the streets aren't clean, not exactly, but kids don't go missing anymore. They don't wake up without parents, and find that masks and costumes and acrobatics are the only way to dull that orphan ache.
He wishes, and Babs packs up her cape and cowl and puts it in a box under her bed. Tim goes back to school, to be smart as fuck somewhere else so that someday, maybe, he can out-Wayne Bruce. Dick finds other cities before, like Babs, he starts working for the actual law instead of the one Bruce instilled in all of them.
Bruce is the last to quit, besides Jason. The city stops, gradually and then all at once, needing Batman.
It stops needing him, too.
But he still needs the city. Needs the traffic and the ugly buildings and the people, the good ones and the shitty ones and the ones that just want to get to work on time. So he stays, and even though he misses them – all of them, all of them – he doesn't wish to get them back.
He figures he's out of wishes, anyway.

MCU Fill: The Good Books Speak Latin
Date: 2014-08-29 10:18 pm (UTC)Steve ushered Bucky in to hunt up a modern encyclopedia and froze when he saw the two of them muttering.
Bucky opened his mouth, but Natasha cut him off with: "Bucky, don't speak Latin in front of the books."
It was an open secret that Natasha spoke Latin, but nobody had thought that extended to Bucky.
Clint shot a questioning glance his way.
In English, Bucky complained, "That's the right language for a library."
Natasha sighed and muttered something in Russian. A book flew to her hand. "Stick to that bookcase over there then where my books are. Stark keeps dangerous things in here."
Clint held up a manual on explosives with a grin. "It's a very obedient book too."
"Hawkeye," Steve admonished. "Come on, Bucky. Over here."
Bucky fixed Clint with a meaningful gaze.
Clint promised in Russian Sign Language to show him where the good books were later.
