Thursday: Crime and Punishment
Feb. 5th, 2015 08:40 amHello, everyone. I’m
dreamsofspike and today's theme is Crime and Punishment. Prompts should be around breaking the law, breaking the rules, etc, and facing the consequences for it, whether those consequences are good or bad. Maybe someone is breaking the rules on purpose in order to get the punishment. Feel free to play around with it as much as you like. ;)
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
If your prompt or fill contains anything that can be a trigger for the reader, please add a warning for that to give the reader the chance to decide if they want to read or not.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing. Use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Supernatural, Dean Winchester/Castiel - serving a new master
+ Supernatural, Sam Winchester/Castiel - "this is for your own good"
+ Grimm, Nick Burkhardt/Monroe - "down, boy!" ;)
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2015 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2015-02-06 10:33 pm (UTC)Thanks to his speed, visiting hours - for Barry - are whenever he has the opportunity to zip inside the prison and into Leonard's bunk without being seen.
Whenever he has the opportunity and Leonard isn't in solitary confinement, that is (where there are a lot more cameras.) But now that the warden has learned not to try locking someone else into a cell with Leonard, those times are fewer and farther in-between.
Their nights together aren't easy. Barry has to time his entrances and exits just right - he can be through an open door before anyone can see him, but he can't walk through walls, or bars, once those doors are shut. They have to be careful not to be overheard by any of the guards. (The prisoners aren't a problem. If any of them have questions about the voices they sometimes hear, in the dark, coming from Leonard's bunk, they know better than to share them with him - or anybody else for that matter.)
But Barry will take what he can get. Anything is better than being cut off from Leonard completely. Being unable to talk to him face to face, instead of over those tinny, plastic phones Barry can remember using to talk to his father when he was a kid. Being unable to touch him... To lie next to him, afterward, his head on Leonard's chest, listening to the steady beat of Leonard's heart... as Leo runs his fingers through Barry's hair or down Barry's side, chuckling at Barry's silent shivers when he finds a ticklish spot and worries it, until Barry is squirming and biting his lips not to protest.
Barry hasn't been without Leonard for any significant amount of time since they met in this very prison, visiting their dads from the same side of the plexiglass. Leonard even used to sneak into the foster home that housed Barry after Barry's mom died, so they could sleep together (long before Leo announced that Barry was "old enough" for them to sleep together.)
To be honest? Having Leo in here - in prison - in a cage, like an animal, is Barry's worst nightmare come true. He hadn't thought he could stand it, before the lightning, before he had powers; he'd almost done something stupid, something Leonard would have beat him for before he forgave him, just so they could be together again.
"You don't ever try something like that again, do you understand?" Leo told him, when Barry confessed, voice hard and cold the way it usually is, actually - with everyone else - but never with Barry.
It still chokes Barry up to think about the real fear that had unleveled Leonard's voice as he said, "You think I want you in here? You're the one thing I've got that the 'law' doesn't get to touch." Barry'd never heard Leo scared before.
It's why he hasn't brought up what his powers must mean to Leonard's time left in prison. Before, they were looking at twenty years if Leo couldn't find his own way out - more if he loses it again, the way he had the day they told him that Barry was in a coma. (Most of Leonard's current sentence was added on after that, when he lost the possibility of parol.)
But now that Barry has seen what his powers can do- How they can help people... He hasn't told Leo much about that yet, but he knows Leo must think about how Barry's powers could help him. Barry thinks about it all the time.
It's like Leonard can sense Barry thinking about it.
He finally says so, the same night Barry has decided that he's not going to stall anymore - he's got to tell Leo that he's getting him out of here.
"I can practically feel you thinking, kid. Give it a rest," Leo says. And he must know what his next words will do to Barry because he presses a kiss to the top of Barry's head. "I told you, you don't get your hands dirty. I'll get myself out. It's bad enough I let you risk getting caught running in here to see me."
"I'm not gonna stop coming to see you," Barry says firmly, hands tightening reflexively on Leonard's waist, probably too tight, but Leo doesn't complain.

Date: 2015-02-08 09:42 pm (UTC)"Hey there, Bats," she says. "What took you so long?"
Batman holds up the slip of paper with the clue she left him. Well, it's more like a childishly scribbled map than an actual clue, but whatever. She had to make it easy.
"I thought I'd give you time to change your mind," he says. "What happened to the clean bill of health, Quinn?"
Harley pouts, leans in close to him even though any sane person would be backing away.
But then, any sane person wouldn't be dressed up like a bat.
"You never visit unless you're tryin' to arrest me," Harley says.
Batman scowls. Takes the bag of loot out of her hands, gets the cuffs out. "Ooh," Harley says. "Kinky. It's been a while since I –"
"Cut it out, Quinn," Batman says. He walks her out of the building, slow, alarm bells going off like a wedding march.
"Don't you ever get lonely?" she asks, once they're outside and he's helping her into the Batmobile. It's only a matter of time before she slips out of the cuffs and starts pressing all the buttons, really – she likes the one that gets that British guy talking at them.
Batman shakes his head, doesn't say anything until they reach Arkham. "Are you going to stay put?" he asks her then.
She grins over at him. "Only if you promise to drop by sometime," she says.
His hands tighten on the steering wheel, mouth set in that thin, stony line, but he says, "I'll think about it."
She laughs, leans over and kisses him on the cheek, leaving a big red lipstick print in her wake. Then she hops out of the car and heads up the stairs to visit her friends.

Date: 2015-02-05 03:54 pm (UTC)Fill: Gotham, Jim Gordon/Oswald Cobblepot, I fought the law and the law won
Date: 2017-08-28 09:49 pm (UTC)Jim shoved Oswald up against the wall to better punctuate the statement. Heard the satisfying crack of skull against brick, and pushed in still closer.
The anger surged in his head, the constant frustration making him want to hurt something.
Someone.
It hadn’t been like this before the Tetch Virus, that was what he liked to tell himself. He had never wanted to rip somebody limb from limb, or start punching and just not stop, until his target crumpled at his feet and his fist came away bloody.
The truth was that it had always been there. Simmering just beneath the skin, driving him to distraction, at high school, and basic training, and even at police academy.
He wasn’t good and he wasn’t just.
He wanted to be the cause of suffering.
Oswald turned his head to the side, cowering the way he did in all of Jim’s favorite memories, and Jim realized belatedly that his teeth were bared. That his hands were around the other man’s throat, squeezing, and the barely human snarl was emanating from his own mouth.
He let go and took a step backwards. Ran a shaking hand through his hair and watched as Oswald struggled for both breath and composure.
“Because I’m your friend,” Oswald said finally, in response to his earlier questioning, “because you and I, we’re cut from the same cloth.”
Jim thought of the blood on his hands - the evil things he had done and the evil things he would go on to do.
“We’re not friends,” was all he said aloud, and forced himself to keep his stride even as he walked away.
Refused to allow himself to look back over his shoulder.
Jim was a monster, maybe, but he and Oswald were not the same.
He was never going to be proud of it.

Date: 2015-03-27 01:18 am (UTC)Leonard was sitting at his desk scanning through a patient file when the communicator on his desk buzzed to life.
"Bones."
Leonard glanced up at the small screen and reached forward to adjust the volume. "Jim?" he asked. "Thought you folks were still planetside." Jim and an away team had beamed down to the surface of a small M Class planet earlier in the day. They weren't expected to return for at least another few hours.
"Just got back," Jim said, his voice quiet, rushed, as if he was afraid of being overheard. "Look, I need you to meet me in my quarters. Bring your medkit."
Leonard frowned, a small ball of dread forming in the pit of his stomach. It wasn't like Jim to ask for medical assistance. He could be bleeding out on one of Leonard's biobeds and he'd still manage a delirious grin and a garbled I'm fine. "You alright?"
"Yeah, yeah," Jim said, sounding distracted now. "It's, uh, it's not for me."
Leonard's brow scrunched in confusion. "Not for - what? Who's with you?"
Jim sighed. "Just… get down here. Please?"
"Alright, alright," Leonard said, putting aside his PADD and standing from the desk. "Be down in two."
"Make it one," Jim said before cutting the connection.
---
"Are you kidding me with this?" Leonard asked, still slightly out of breath and growing angrier by the second.
A large cat lay in the middle of Jim's bed. It's fur was snow white and its eyes were a vivid blue. It was curled into a tight ball, its thin tail wrapped around its body and tucked across its nose. It watched Leonard cautiously.
"What?" Jim asked.
Leonard turned wide eyes on Jim. "I busted my ass to get down here ASAP to find your big emergency is a stowaway cat?" Leonard asked, gesturing at the animal. "I’m a doctor, Jim, not a damn veterinarian."
The cat meowed, long and loud.
Jim frowned and moved to sit beside the cat. "She looked like she was in pain," he said. "I didn't know what to do." He scritched the cat lightly behind her ears. She purred and arched into his touch.
"What to do?" Leonard parroted, his voice rising. "You should have left it on the damn planet, Jim! God knows what parasites are crawling through its fur."
Jim rolled his eyes before turning his gaze back to the cat. "Look, I found her laying at the edge of a creek. She was crying and her eyes were wide and she kept getting up, stumbling a few feet, and flopping down again. She won't eat any thing I've offered her, won't drink anything."
The cat meowed again, like she knew she was the topic of discussion.
"And look at this," Jim continued. "Her belly's all distended and bloaty." Jim poked the cat's belly.
The cat growled and bared a tooth at Jim.
"See?" Jim asked. "That's not normal, is it?"
Leonard pinched the bridge of his nose. "I don't know, Jim," he said, slow and pointed. "I'm not a fucking vet!"
"I know that!" Jim shot back. Then, softer, he said, "But you must have taken a biology class or two, right?"
Leonard sighed and dropped his hand. Jim made a pitiful picture sitting there in the middle of his bed, brow furrowed with worry, mouth a thin line. One hand rested against the cat's back.
A soft shudder ran through the cat.
"Damnit," Leonard said, stepping over to the bed and kneeing beside the mattress. "Hold it's paws."

"Downloading a movie," Dean said.
Castiel squinted at the screen. "Was it free?"
Dean smirked. "It is now."
"Downloading copyrighted material without paying for it is illegal, Dean." He'd heard that on a commercial once.
Dean shot Castiel a bewildered look. "Dude, I kill things for a living. Are you really going to rag on me about pirating?"
Castiel frowned. "No," he said.
"Good," Dean said, turning back to the laptop. "Besides," he added. "No one pays for porn if they can avoid it."
"Oh," Castiel said, filing away the information for later use.
