Date: 2015-02-08 07:12 am (UTC)Sliding away from her, he swung his legs over the side of the bed preparing to get up and make a mad dash somewhere to get clothes when he heard her voice. “Jacob?”
Turning, he saw her sitting up clutching the sheet to her. “Cassie.”
“What happened?”
“I don’t know,” he admitted shaking his head. “I really don’t know. Do you remember anything?”
He watched as she shook her head. “No. Did we…”
Looking away from her worried face, he looked around the bed and night stand. No condom wrapper. “No, I don’t think so,” he heard her quick exhale and knew she was as relieved as he was. It wasn’t that she wasn’t attractive, because she was, and it wasn’t that maybe someday he’d want to take her to bed, just not right now. She was becoming his best friend, someone he didn’t have to hide any part of himself from and he didn’t want to lose that. Not right now.
“I’ll go grab my clothes and find and bring you yours,” he said, grabbing a dirty shirt laying nearby, he wrapped it around his waist and went to his dresser to pull out a fresh pair of jeans and t-shirt for himself and one for her until they could locate her clothes. Chucking it toward the bed, he slipped into the bathroom to dress.
Coming out he saw she’d retrieved her shorts but had left his t-shirt on. “Breakfast and then we can figure out what happened.”
“Besides drinking too much,” she said giggling.
He smiled. “Yeah, besides that.”

Date: 2015-02-07 06:16 am (UTC)Star Trek AOS, Jim Kirk, Family Dead
Date: 2015-02-10 10:46 pm (UTC)Your brother died a nobody, Jim, and what about you?
Your mother died a somebody, Jim, and what about you?
They all died in space.
What about you?
Your father died a hero, Jim, the starship crashing down and ready for a one-way course to hell, named a child, saved 800 lives, and told his wife he loved her. Dissertations are written about him and people idolize him, and Starfleet takes his name and puts it on a shipyard in his memory. But nobody knows who he is any more, only your mother and your brother, and that small town of Riverside, Iowa before Starfleet decided it needed a publicity stunt. Before the MediaComm spread the news about a starship Captain going down, a mysterious lightning storm in space, nobody knew him, not even you.
(Of course you weren't born yet. What's your real excuse?)
And your brother? Hell yeah, you know your brother. Pain in the ass, just like you, legs too tall, ate everything before you could get your hands on it. He left home years ago and the sting still takes because that means people can leave, not just people who were never there in the first place or who just couldn't be bothered. His name was your dad's name, but to you he was Sam. And Sam has a name that only you remember now, because Sam didn't do anything special for Starfleet or the goddamned planet outside of being another scientist's body, so of course nobody's gonna fucking care that he's one more name on the casualty lists, on the obituaries, that he was your brother and he could've been so much more, he should've and could've been so much more.
(Are you done yet? The chronometer.)
Talk about your mother to me. Use the worst bits of words and ignore about the rest. Talk about how she failed you as a mother, because she put her career as a person, but how she succeeded in a career, because she was an engineering genius and what you learned as a child would put a Vulcan to green jealousy. Write me epics spanning cover to cover about how everyone in your family didn't know how to play your games. You were a smart kid, Jim, so tell me what went wrong. Sources say you were good, that Sam was the bad kid. Tell me how you blamed your mother for everything, that you did it all so that she could feel like she failed, and how you felt when she actually did, and you got yourself emancipated. Tell me about the regrets you never contacted her again when you left Iowa, how you both knew she'd never care.
(That'll give you something to think about.)
Session's over today, Captain. Please come back real soon. But for today, a little homework: They all died in space. What about you?

Date: 2015-03-28 01:16 am (UTC)“Where else do you want me to hide things?” He unrolled the piece of paper, studying it. Mentally counting down: three…two…
“What’s that?”
Congratulating himself, Alphonse hid the laugh in his voice. “Something Elicia drew for me. Lieutenant Colonel Hughes gave it to me.”
“Elicia drew something for you and not me?” Edward grumbled and shifted his weight, his scowl darkening. “What is it?”
Jealousy did nothing for his brother’s looks, Alphonse thought. “Um, well, it’s kind of…weird.”
“Yeah?” Beckoning with his fingers, Edward said, “Pass it over.”
“Don’t mess it up,” Alphonse said in warning as he handed the drawing to Edward.
Edward accepted, flipping the page so he could see it better. He frowned, pursed his mouth, glanced from the drawing to Alphonse and back to the drawing. The serious expression on his face flashed from confusion to sheer hysteria. “Th-this is y-you?” His shoulders trembled.
Alphonse snatched back the drawing, rolling it up to tuck it away again. “I think it’s a very good likeness!”
“Al,” Edward burbled, “you were never a baby suit of armor!”
“Yeah, well,” Alphonse said, “Elicia didn’t draw you as anything, did she?”
Just like that, Edward went from giggling to sheer envy. “Oh, shut up.”
“Because she knows I’m the better brother.” Edward’s wordless reply involved some hand gestures that Alphonse was glad Elicia couldn’t see. His brother could really be crass, especially when he was jealous.

Date: 2015-02-08 03:48 pm (UTC)“Just wanted a change of scenery,” Harvey answered gruffly, throwing his own coat over a nearby chair and dropping his holster on the table. “Got a problem with that?”
They stared at each other consideringly for a moment until Jim sighed finally giving in and sitting on the edge of the bed. “No, I guess not,” he said slowly. He paused for another moment, thinking about how much freedom a hotel room would afford the and how nice that would be, before a grin started pulling at his lips. “At least this means some privacy, right?” he asked, hands drifting up to start unbuttoning his shirt.
Harvey’s eyes were glued to his fingers and it took him a moment to tear them away, frowning grumpily but certainly not unhappily at the grin on his partner’s face. “Uh, yeah,” he said, voice even huskier than before. He cleared his throat. “That’s what it’s here for.”
Jim shrugged his shirt off, wishing he knew how to be a little more graceful, a little more of a tease. Not that the older man probably needed the incentive, he was pretty much always raring to go. “Well,” he said, reaching up to grab Harvey’s tie and reel him in, “let’s test that out.”

At this point he knew her fairly well and her smiles were ever changing. She had a smile for when she was content, when she was being sarcastic, when she wanted to tell him that he was being a prick, and a smile to say she loved him more than anything. He loved all those smiles, they made him feel whole.
When she was working though, her smile was worth a hundred lies, and Logan, he hated it.

Excerpt:
“I thought that storm would never end.”
“You're soaked. You're going to catch a cold.”
Richard laughed, shaking his head as he did, leaning back and looking up at the still cloudy sky. Then he caught her hand and pulled her close to him, leading her in a stumbling dance around the garden. “How could I catch cold with you here to warm me?”
“Richard!”
He smiled, not at all contrite. “Didn't you get my letters? How could I be cold when there is your smile and your love to warm me and lead me home?”
