Tuesday: daemons
Mar. 10th, 2015 12:08 amAnd today’s theme is daemons, a la His Dark Materials. Take your favorites and give them animals as souls outside their bodies. Or maybe instead, you want to worldbuild with the concept (as I do) and wonder about what having a daemon would change.
The rules, as ever, are:
1. No more than five prompts in a row.
2. No more than three prompts in a fandom.
3. Use the character's full name and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
4. If your prompt or fill contains anything that can be a trigger for the reader, please add a warning for that to give the reader the chance to decide if they want to read or not.
5. No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing. Use the spoiler cut option found here.
6. If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows:
Fandom, Character+/Character, Prompt
For example:
any fandom with vampires, author's choice, vampires don't have daemons
Author’s choice, author’s choice, how movies/TV shows work in a world with daemons – do characters have their actors’ daemons? So on and so forth.
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2015 collection.

deliver us from evil (Dracula, Mina & Dracula)
Date: 2015-03-31 08:18 am (UTC)The Count's laugh is chilling; the smug triumph of a devil. "Come," he commands, and what else can she do but obey?
She tries to stand but she feels so weak and chilled all over, the dæmonless fiend's icy fingers rubbing her soul's neck in an unwelcome, sinister caress. She looks into Sigmundri's eyes, which are blank with unthinking panic, and she crawls to the Count's feet.
His free hand is beneath her chin, pushing it back so that her throat is bared, but she does not resist. How can she resist?
His reeking lips are upon her throat. Sigmundri cries out, "No," but is silenced by the tightening of the Count's grip, choking, merciless.
At last the Count takes his mouth away. He is talking, but Mina is only partly listening, focused as she is on poor, helpless Sigmundri.
The vampire's hand is on the back of her neck, now, and forcing her mouth to a bleeding wound on his chest. She tries not to swallow, she tries but she is suffocating, she swallows the blood.
"You are now to me, flesh of my flesh; blood of my blood; kin of my kin," she hears, and her heart clenches with fear, for the Count was once a living man and must have had a dæmon.
Oh my god! My god! What have I done?

FiLL: Shameless, Ian/Mickey,
Date: 2021-05-14 12:09 pm (UTC)Lilly was born too soon, so tiny she fit in the palm of Mickey's hand. He only got to hold her briefly then she was taken away by the doctors as they fought to keep her alive. In her little incubator she lays still and calm, she looks like she is sleeping peacefully, even as her tiny chest rises and falls roughly.
Mickey has cried and cried until his eyes were puffy and red and nearly swollen shut. When the sorrow evaporated, the anger came. He took a swing at his husband, screaming in rage, taking his pain out on the man he loved, but Ian gathered him into his arms and gently held Mickey, “She's a Gallavich, a fighter. Lilly will survive, Mickey, I promise.”
Tears soak Ian's shirt as Mickey cries into his chest, “Don’t make promises you can't keep.”
Ian hugs Mickey tighter, pressing a kiss to his forehead, “I never make promises I can't keep. I swear, baby, she will be alright.”
Her daemon is even smaller than her. An itty-bitty tan rabbit lays beside her, her back foot kicking restlessly. Her eyes are not open yet as if Anna didn’t have the strength to open them. The little rabbit gasps for breath, and Mickey's heart stops for a second, he clings to Ian, but the little daemon calms, drawing in a deep breath, no longer on the arc of death.
Mickey doesn’t want to close his eyes while Ian holds in him; he fears taking his eyes off his daughter will allow some evil to swoop in and steal her away. She will parish if he doesn’t keep a watchful eye on her, the thought of Anna fading away and turning to ash as Lilly takes her last breath nearly bring Mickey to his knees as his heart breaks.
Lilly takes a breath and then another, and survives the night. The following morning, Anna has opened her eyes, and gathers enough strength to gaze up at Ian and Mickey, and they see a tinkle of hope in their baby daemons eyes.
Two weeks later, Lilly is strong and healthy enough to go home. Mickey carries her out of the hospital in his arms, cradling her to his chest, Ian's arms around his shoulder, and as the tiny rabbit daemon nuzzles up at Lilly's chest, Lilly takes hold of Mickey's finger, giving a strong squeeze.
Ian presses a kiss to Mickey's cheek as they get to the car, reminding Mickey, “I told you she would survive. I never make me promises I can't keep.”

Date: 2015-03-26 04:18 am (UTC)As they went through the police academy, they met a lot of other who’s daemons were dogs, though only one or two other German Shepherds. Dogs were a common daemon for cops, though by no means did everyone have a dog. Police work just appealed to a certain type of person.
Being a Grimm turned out to work quite well with Eva too. They worked together seamlessly, and Eva was constantly fascinated by the daemons of the Wesen they encountered. Things seemed to be going just the way they always had been except for those few details.
Nick didn’t even notice the changes at first. He was with Eva all day every day, so they kind of crept up on him. It wasn’t until Hank made an offhand comment about how dark Eva’s fur was getting that even he started to pay attention.
Once he noticed, though, it was hard not to. Eva’s fur was darker, barely any of the golden color left on her. Her teeth also seemed longer, maybe even sharper. He tried to brush it off as false memory at first, but pictures were telling. It was almost impossible to tell Eva was the same daemon in the picture from when they graduated from the academy. The one thing that hadn’t changed was Eva’s personality. She was the same as ever, curious and intense and the best partner he could ask for.
At least he hoped so. As the months went on and he learned more and more about what it meant to be a Grimm, he started to doubt himself. Eva had changed on the outside, there was no denying that. Maybe she’d also changed on the inside. Maybe he had too. The problem was, he wasn’t sure he could even tell anymore.
