Friday: one thing different

comment_ficOkay, so I’ve had difficulty explaining this concept to someone IRL, so bear with me. Today’s theme is AU – but where only one thing is different; it’s not necessarily canon divergence, but can be. So, say, instead of Angelus killing Jenny Calendar, Jenny wasn’t in the school that night. Or instead of February having 28 or 29 days, it’s always had 31. And that fact is the only thing about canon that is changed – except, of course, what that fact in and of itself has caused to be changed.
The rules, as ever, are:
1. No more than five prompts in a row.
2. No more than three prompts in a fandom.
3. Use the character's full name and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
4. If your prompt or fill contains anything that can be a trigger for the reader, please add a warning for that to give the reader the chance to decide if they want to read or not.
5. No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing. Use the spoiler cut option found here.
6. If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows:
Fandom, Character+/Character, Prompt
For example:
author's choice, author's choice, if [character] had been born 100 years after whenever canon took place
author’s choice, author’s choice, February has 31 days
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2015 collection.

The voice broke into his dreams, startling him awake. Hospital, he realized, hearing all the mechanical noises that went with monitors. He blinked a couple of times, cautiously moving his arms. He'd been restrained in situations like this before.
"You're safe," the man said, a smile making his mustache twitch. “Don’t try to get up.” He patted the air rather than reaching over the bed rail.
Michael appreciated that. He didn’t like to be touched by people he didn’t know. “Why am I here?” he tried to ask, winding up coughing through it. When the man offered him the plastic tumbler and straw, Michael accepted it, sipping at the ice water. It tasted like heaven. He tried to keep from thinking of Fiona, and her cool hands roaming over his body.
“Michael?” The blond guy swam back into his focus. He smiled again. For some reason, Michael didn’t trust that smile, but he wasn’t sure why. Maybe it was whatever was dripping into the I.V. hanging over the bed. “I suppose I should introduce myself. My name is Anson, Anson Fullerton.” Somehow, his smile grew even larger. “I feel you and I are going to be great friends.”
“Sure,” Michael muttered, closing his eyes. “Right after I wake up again.” And maybe he could get hold of someone who could tell him what was going on here. Why he was in a hospital with this guy and not passed out in a crummy hotel, with a burn notice hanging over him for this spectacular failure.
Thank God for small favors, he thought, drifting back into sleep.
