Friday: Paint your palette blue and grey
Apr. 17th, 2015 05:21 amGood morning! I’m
evil_little_dog. Today's my last day as your host. I hope you've enjoyed my themes. Today's is Between the Panels. All prompts should relate to/be from comics, comic strips, manga, web comics - anything with panel storytelling.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
If your prompt or fill contains anything that can be a trigger for the reader, please add a warning for that to give the reader the chance to decide if they want to read or not.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing. Use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Calvin and Hobbes, Calvin+/Susie Derkins+Hobbes, Hobbes always figured they'd wind up together.
+ Sandman, Death (Didi), Living another day
+ Fullmetal Alchemist, Roy Mustang+Edward Elric, Office arguments
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2015 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

The second Joe hits the ground, body slamming at speed into the hard concrete, he knows he's in for a world of hurt tomorrrow. When he stands, he realises quickly that tomorrow is today, doubles up and clutches what is surely a dislocated shoulder. Under his mask, Barry doesn't blink, simply grabs him and uses strength Joe didn't know he had to manoeuvre him into some sort of fireman's carry to bring him to STAR Labs.
Of course, super speed in that position does nothing to help the pain in his shoulder and by the time Barry puts him down on one of the beds, Joe's teeth tightly clenched together are the only thing keeping him from shouting out in pain. "Sorry," Barry says as he takes off his mask. "Maybe I should have waited for the paramedics..."
"Too late now." Caitlin appears behind him, brows knit into a frown, lips pressed into a thin line. Barry gets a look on his face that Joe hasn't seen since he was in grade school and got caught stealing some of Grandma Esther's cookies from the baking tray in the kitchen. This time, he knows better than to try to talk his way out of trouble, just crosses his arms over his chest and schools his face into a mask of contrition.
"It's not that bad." Joe manages to force the lie out but the expression on Caitlin's face makes him wish he hadn't.
"Which of us has the medical degree?" Her voice is tart, even as her touch is gentle and Barry shoots him a look of sympathy, one that's echoed by Cisco beside him. "It's dislocated," she says after a moment. "But you already knew that."
Joe nods. "Figured."
Caitlin glances at Barry and Cisco. "Can one of you hold his other shoulder?" Barry is moving before she's finished the question and when Caitlin looks down at Joe, it's her turn to lie. "This won't hurt."
Cisco snickers. "She's lying." When Caitlin glares at him, he looks shocked, like he didn't realise he'd spoken out loud and he mimes zipping his lips and throwing away a key.
"Figured that too." Joe gives the younger man a half-hearted smile but when Caitlin leans down close to him, it's suddenly easier to breathe, to forget about everything but her eyes, the way a teasing smile suddenly plays around her lips.
"Don't worry," she says, her voice low. "I'll kiss you better later."
Against all odds, Joe feels a laugh bubbling up in his throat, and it's only partly to do with the look of disgusted amazement on Barry's face, how Cisco looks like he wants to be anywhere else. "Oh baby," he hears himself say, and if anyone mentions it, he'll blame it on the pain. "I'm gonna hold you to that."
Caitlin's smile is as bright as the flash of pain when she pops his shoulder back into place.
Later that night, when she keeps her word, her smile is brighter still.

Date: 2015-04-17 11:03 pm (UTC)Edward and Alphonse's dad had left Rismebool when they were little kids. Their mom died of the plague. Winry's parents went off to war as doctors, trying to help as many as they could. They came home in pine boxes, the wood warped from the heat of the desert and the travel from there to Risembool.
Despite all the pain and horror the Risembool kids had to endure, there was still a lot of fun to be had. Wading in the river, teasing Mr. Culbertson's bull until he chased them, staying up late at night to watch the stars or chase fireflies. Joining in the wren hunt at the winter solstice. Falling asleep in front of the fire after a long day. Pinako's stew, perfuming the air, making their stomachs growl.
When Edward and Alphonse burned down their house, Edward threw all those memories on the flames. Another sacrifice, even though he considered it his resolve. He couldn't remember the good times. He had to keep moving forward. Once he and Alphonse had their bodies back, then he could remember.

The fact that every so often a panic attack comes along and sweeps over Jenny like an ocean wave crashing to the shore is a secret that she's managed to keep for a long time. Corbin didn't know, her shrinks in Tarrytown didn't know, even Abbie doesn't know.
So it's just her luck, she thinks, that the person that finds her when she's right in the middle of one is the second last person she wants to see her like this.
Except Frank surprises her.
He doesn't look at her like she's crazy, doesn't whip out his cell phone and call Tarrytown Psychiatric. He doesn't even call Abbie. Instead he just sits down beside her on the floor of the archives, stretches his legs out in front of him, doesn't say a word. He doesn't make any moves to touch her, to comfort her, and strange as it might sound, that's just what she needs.
When her sobs have subsided, when she lifts her head and tilts it back, letting it rest against the wall behind her, he reaches into his pocket, pulls out a neatly folded handkerchief. "It's clean," is all he says and she grins, taking it from him and using it to dry her eyes, wipe her face.
They sit in silence and she feels like he's waiting for her to speak. "I'm ok," she hears herself say and he lifts an eyebrow.
"Sure." She knows he doesn't believe it for a second. "You want me to get you anything? Junk food, chocolate, a couple gallons of ice cream? All of the above?"
His eyes are dancing with humour and Jenny feels herself start to relax, or that could just be the crushing exhaustion beginning to set in. "That sounds nice," she allows. "But you don't have to..."
He cuts her off, his voice low but sincere. "I want to." He does touch her then, reaches out and closes his hand over hers. It's a loose touch, one she could break in a second if she wanted to and the idea that he's doing that on purpose, is taking what she needs into consideration, nearly makes her begin to cry again. "I want to be there, Jenny... if you'll let me."
She has to press her lips together for a long moment before she can answer. When she does, it's easier for her to reply with a quip, safer too. "I didn't realise you had a soft side," she says and he shrugs.
"Neither does anyone else, so here's ten bucks to keep it that way." He tilts his head. "Or I can use the ten bucks at the grocery store down the street, buy those couple gallons of ice cream and take you home."
Jenny takes a deep breath, lets it out slowly. "That sounds like a plan."
Frank smiles as he stands and helps her up, wraps his arm around her shoulders and pulls her close as they walk out together.
