Wednesday: What if...?

dreamsofspike and today's theme is What If? For your prompts today, choose a detail from canon and change it so that something else is true. Maybe mortal enemies are lovers instead, maybe someone tells a secret instead of keeping it, maybe the badguy wins a crucial battle, or someone lives instead of dying - some crucial detail is changed. What would happen then?
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
If your prompt or fill contains anything that can be a trigger for the reader, please add a warning for that to give the reader the chance to decide if they want to read or not.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing. Use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.

+ Grimm, Nick Burkhart/Monroe, Monroe meets and likes Rosalee, but turns out she's gay; he seeks comfort in the arms of his friend the Grimm ;)
+ Glee, Sam Evans/Blaine Anderson, Blaine's badly bullied at Dalton, until Sam comes along and stands up for him

The voice of Dean was full of panic; he desperately gasped for air; flailing his arms uncontrolled. But Benny knew better than to try to comfort him or even wake him up. He had done once; Dean had freaked out, lashed out at him, even choked him. He had needed all his force to shake him off; then he had to bound him until he finally started to think clearly again.
It was already a while since Dean had decided not to go back to earth but to stay here with him; hard to say how long: days, weeks, even month, everything was possible. Time in purgatory had lost every importance. The whole existence reduced to fight and survive. Usually alone; it was better to trust no one.
The reason why Benny had decided to stay here. As a vampire who was already living since centuries, he had to bear a many loss. Everyone he loved would die sooner or later. He had been so sick of it. Life in purgatory was much easier; no feelings, no responsibility, no dreams, no hope, no future; always the same grayness around and the knowledge that every moment could be the last one.
Dean had changed everything. He was different than any other monster or human being Benny had ever met. On earth, he was a hunter. If they had met there first, one of them wouldn't be alive anymore. But they met in purgatory. First, it was just an alliance of convenience because they both were looking for a way to survive. But it turned into friendship soon enough; very close friendship. Until that one night, after a long, tiring fight against some leviathans. Benny couldn't even say how it had happened; he had never been together with a guy in all the years on earth and neither did Dean. But it felt like the only right thing that they became lover.
Afterward, Dean was still lying in his arms, his body so warm and sweaty despite the chilling cold around them. And he had made the decision to stay. Until the end of time, he had said.
Shared fights at day, shared refuges at night. Not alone anymore. Despite all doubting, Benny had gotten used to it all too quickly.
„Sam!“
Dean had told him once that purgatory was the best what could have happened to him; a dark and cruel place, lost like his soul. But the dreams occurred more and more often and pulled him back with full force. Back into his old life where Sam was still looking for him.
„No!“
Dean woke with a start, grabbed for the big knife beside him and aimed it at Benny; his eyes calm and dark. The vampire didn't move; he knew this was the end. Dean was still trapped in his dream; he didn't recognize him as his lover, only as a vampire who was going to hurt his brother.
Benny closed his eyes when Dean thrust the sharp blade deep into his body. He was ready to go.

The things she missed about her human life weren't available anymore anyway - the feel of her mother's hand on her cheek, having her long hair fashioned and styled into a new bonnet, a horseback ride through a silent forest knowing there wasn't another person for miles around. There hadn't been anything to make her undead heart race in happiness, excitement, anxiety in 150 years.
Until, perhaps, this morning. And it's not just the resemblance to Katherine, it's the smell of her shampoo as she walks by, her face drawn, none of the color she'd had the school year before. Anna had been watching when, in the late spring, the flood waters took the Gilberts. Anna had planned to make a move that summer, when less people were watching - summer meant not missing classes, no school activities. But then the accident, and Elena was nowhere to be seen for months, and her aunt moved in and her little brother started doing drugs. But here it was - a new school year, and the girl was back, but she was changed. Her skin was sallow, her mouth had little frown lines, she had purple bruises under her eyes as if she wasn't sleeping.
And even with all of that, was her beauty. And the smell of her shampoo - like the magnolias that used to grow wild all throughout Mystic Falls when Anna was a girl, a human girl. And that sadness, Anna knew that sadness and suddenly her broken, vampire heart was thudding - metaphorically, whatever - against her ribcage and she couldn't take her eyes off the oldest Gilbert.
So her plan was pushed back a few months, and this new... development... might complicate things, but when Anna sits next to Elena at lunch with a sad smile and says, "I know how it feels," she just might be telling the truth.
