Trope Tuesday
Dec. 8th, 2015 01:26 amHello, everyone. I’m
oh_mcgee and today's theme is Tropes. Prompts should include your favorite overused plot devices or cliches, but specifically the ones you just can't get enough of. It doesn't have to be a popular trope, just the situations that you can read again and again and never get tired of. If you need help coming up with some, Tv Tropes is always useful.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
If your prompt or fill contains anything that can be a trigger for the reader, please add a warning for that to give the reader the chance to decide if they want to read or not.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing. Use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
Grayson, Dick Grayson/Midnighter, coffee shop au
Batman (comics), Tim Drake/Jason Todd, damsel in distress
Green Lantern, Hal Jordan/Thaal Sinestro, assumed to be gay/a couple
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2015 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Fill: The Hobbit, Thorin/Bilbo
Date: 2016-03-25 06:55 pm (UTC)Dwalin had tried on a couple of occasions to ask Thorin what was wrong, or if he could help. But, since on the second attempt, he thought he was literally about to get his head bitten off, he was steering well clear of him.
Balin had approached Bilbo, who was quieter than usual, but Bilbo too couldn’t throw any light on Thorin’s problem. Balin did briefly wonder whether Bilbo was being entirely honest, but reasoned Thorin’s anger was sufficient to frighten the hobbit into staying silent.
Matters would have stayed the same, but Dwalin happened to catch Thorin looking miserably at something. Feeling like he was taking his life in his hands, Dwalin approached him and looked down, to see four practically translucent beads in Thorin’s palm.
Thorin looked up. “He gave them back to me. Said he didn’t have any need for them.”
“Does he know what they are?”
Thorin shrugged, “I presume so.”
Dwalin sighed and went to speak to Bilbo.
“I understand you refused Thorin’s gift,” he began.
“Yes,” said Bilbo. “The beads were beautiful, but I don’t have braided hair. I thought they’d look better on Thorin.”
Dwalin sighed again. “They are courting beads. And you’ve rejected them.”
Bilbo’s face fell. “I didn’t realise. Had I known I’d have accepted them and worn them all the time.”
Dwalin no longer felt like sighing, but more like screaming. Controlling himself he said, “Go and talk to him.” Then, when Bilbo appeared to hesitate, he added, “NOW!”

Date: 2015-12-08 03:35 pm (UTC)Fill. Stargate: Atlantis, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay.
Date: 2016-08-25 12:51 am (UTC)“Yeah,” John muttered back, “Me too,” and reached for the straps on his tac vest.
“Which isn't to say that I don't enjoy what we do back home, but this is...”
“Getting old.”
They took a few minutes to fold up their clothes, make sure the safeties on the P90s were set, and get comfortable on the ground, waiting for the inevitable kick of the pollen that now coated their skin.
“Think Carson'll let us ride it out this time?”
“Maybe.” The villagers had been kind so far and their location at the moment wasn't indefensible. It stood to reason that Carson would probably just leave them to it until the hormone spike dropped and he could dose them.
“Did you grab the lube?” Rodney asked then.
John nodded and held a couple of the standard issue packets aloft. He still wondered how many missions the SGC teams had gone on before the item was standard issue—five? Six? It couldn't have been more than ten, if Milky Way was anything like Pegasus.
Speaking of Pegasus. “Shouldn't we be...”
“Yep,” Rodney frowned. “Maybe it's a different strain from the standard sex pollen?”
“That is seriously a phrase I never thought I'd hear. Ever.”
Rodney made a long-suffering noise and grabbed his pile of belongings, dragging his laptop out from the vest pouch and booting it up. “Readings might help.”
“Would clothes?”
“Mmm, since neither of us is experiencing an undeniable urge to hump the other into the ground after twenty minutes of exposure, it's probably safe to get dressed,” he replied, though he made no move to put anything on himself. He was too enraptured by whatever was on his computer screen.
“Aw, Rodney, you don't experience that urge?”
“Sadly, not every minute of every day, no. I do have to devote some of brain capacity to making sure the city doesn't fall apart.”
“There is Radek, you know.”
He rolled his eyes. “Radek is intelligent, I'll give you that. But without me, the expedition is in a world of hurt.”
“Oh, I didn't mean to keep the city afloat. I meant having the urge to hump me all day every day?”
“You and Zelenka? Please. You can't deny that you love me.”
“Love's a strong world...”
(Rodney was still nude and arguing with John when Teyla and Ronon found them thirty minutes later.)
