Any, any/any, Playing with Fire

I am so very sorry about all the edits.



Neal's spent his life playing with fire. There's scarcely a thing he's done that doesn't fit under the header of risky, or rash, or possibly dangerous.

But strangely, he's also been fairly careful. He does foolish things, but he usually puts a safety net in place beforehand (or on the fly).

Rachel changed that.

With Rachel, the desperation to get her behind bars has Neal making decisions that put him at the wrong end of a gun one too many times. With Rachel, all he has as protection is the possibility that she won't hurt him because she loves him.

If he hadn't managed to talk her down when he did, he could have died. Probably would have.

But even after she's locked up, even after she takes her fate into her own hands, he keeps making reckless decisions, each more lethal than the last. She pulled out crucial cogs like they were useless foam and left him volatile, unstable.

And now he's been left rickety and careening madly down a destructive path with no one to stop him and it keeps looking less and less likely that he can be saved.

Author’s choice, author’s choice, Seduce Me at Sunrise

White Collar, Neal Caffrey/Elizabeth Mitchell, AU

Neither one of them is a morning person. They wake up early when they have to, but they're crabby about it. They both survive by downing coffee and grouching at things till the sun reaches a reasonable height.

But it turns out, if they haven't slept the previous night, mornings are magical.

Elizabeth giggles over a too-full glass of wine, which makes Neal's face light up with a goofy smile, which makes El giggle even more. They couldn't tell you where the circle started (who could?) but it ends with El lying on her back in the sand, leftover giggles bubbling out of her chest occasionally, and Neal next to her, cheeks tired from smiling so widely, lying with his eyes shut and a gentle, peaceful expression on his face.

Ever so daintily, the sky above them begins to lighten, and the faintest of stars begin to disappear from view.

"Neal," Elizabeth whispers as the first strokes of light unfold across the sky.

Neal hums placidly.

"Neal," she says more insistently. "It's beautiful."

Neal cracks open an eyelid and snorts dismissively. "I've seen better."

"Really? Like what?"

"Like you."

Elizabeth laughs lightly. "Flattery will get you nowhere with me."

"Not flattery. True."

She shakes her head and goes back to watching the play of colour across the sky.

Then glances back for a moment to watch the soft light across Neal's face.

He might have a point.

She leans over him, brushes a stray lock of hair off his forehead, and presses a gentle kiss to the same spot.

Neal's tired cheeks don't protest at the hint of a smile that appears on his face. "Mmmm. What happened to the sunrise?"

"It looks more beautiful on your skin," she says, as her fingers neatly unbutton his loose white shirt and her lips caress every inch of his face. She can feel her breaths warming his skin, can feel the delicate tremble that passes through his body when she breathes just a little harder than usual, can feel the calm in the air turning this from a seduction to a softer expression of love.

If this is what loving Neal Caffrey feels like, then the risk of loving a criminal means nothing.
