Hello, everyone. I’m
squidgiepdx and today's theme is all about something we all love to give and get - presents! Prompts can be anything that has to do with getting or receiving a gift of some kind. Maybe someone has an elaborate gift to be given, only to be thwarted by another rival. Or maybe someone has had a crappy day, and finds a dozen roses on their doorstep. Whatever the case, if it's about getting or giving a present, then let's get on with it!
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ due South, Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski, It may be adding his name to the deed of Fraser's cabin, but to Ray, it's the best present he could ever hope for.
+ Stargate Atlantis, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay, It takes Rodney half a dozen presents before he gets it - the presents are John's way of asking him out.
+ Grimm, Nick Burkhardt/Monroe, Monroe has a hard time deciding on what to get Nick for his birthday
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2016 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2016-01-07 12:21 am (UTC)"Ray." Fraser's tone is stern, but after all their years together Ray can see the amusement lurking underneath.
Ray unfolds the paper and starts reading it, his eyes skimming over the rows of legalese. "This is the deed to the cabin." He looks up, confused.
"Yes it is. Keep reading."
No longer sure Ray lowers his eyes to page and continues reading. When he gets to bottom he pauses and takes in a large breath of air. He opens and shuts his mouth several times before pointing to the last line which states that Benton Fraser and Ray Kowalski are now the joint owners of said cabin. With the paper clutched tightly in his hand Ray throws his arms around Fraser and buries his face in the crook of Fraser's neck.
Smiling brightly Fraser pulls Ray close, holding him firmly, but gently. "Happy Birthday, Ray. I love you too."

Date: 2016-01-07 06:40 am (UTC)Sheppard sighed and said, "You're welcome, Rodney," and walked away.
A couple of days later, Sheppard brought Rodney some of those home-baked cookies from Earth. Lorne's girlfriend sent a share for everyone she considered one of Lorne's friends, and they were highly coveted. Of course she would have sent extra for Sheppard.
Rodney was late for dinner a week later and dismayed to discover that all the desserts save the lemon meringue pie were gone. Teyla was finishing off what looked like a slice of pumpkin pie, and Ronon was all but licking his plate clean when Rodney went to sit with them.
"Where's Sheppard?"
"Elizabeth needed him for something. Haven't seen him yet," Ronon said, and then he was gone.
Rodney sighed and prodded his potatoes, and Teyla vanished.
"Didn't your mother ever tell you not to play with your food?" Sheppard sat opposite Rodney with a tray full of food. He levered a plate with a slice of pumpkin pie onto Rodney's tray and then tucked into his own lemon meringue.
Rodney raised an eyebrow.
Sheppard shrugged. "Life is short. Eat dessert first."
Rodney considered his tray for a moment, then pushed the potatoes aside in favor of the pie. "I thought there was none left."
"Lorne's marines are on KP tonight. They like me," was all Sheppard said.
"Of course they do," Rodney muttered. "Kirk."
Rodney was in the lab three days later, despairing over the incompetence of Zelenka's underlings, when a sandwich appeared at his elbow. Sheppard appeared with it, munching on his own sandwich.
Rodney eyed it warily. "Does it have lemon juice on it or something?"
"Of course not." Sheppard nudged the plate closer to Rodney. "I'm one of the most dim-witted, and I want to survive." He grinned and walked away.
Rodney checked the sandwich before he ate it. It was good. Reminded him of home, of the way his grandma had made turkey sandwiches. Jeannie made her sandwiches that way, too. How had the KP marines known?
Rodney fired off an email to Jeannie for the weekly data burst, asked about her family, and also did she still make turkey sandwiches the way Grandma did?
Two weeks later, when the reply came, Rodney was baffled by the odd postscript to Jeannie's email. Yes. John asked me how. What did that even mean?

Date: 2016-01-06 11:57 pm (UTC)"Oh, sorry." Monroe smiled ruefully. "I wasn't aware." He paused then sighed. At Rosalee's pointed look he shook his head. "It's just that Nick's birthday is coming up and I don't know what to get him."
"Have you talked to him about it?" The doubt in Rosalee's voice makes it very clear what she suspects the answer is.
"Yes. He says he has everything he needs or wants."
"Of course." Rosalee doesn't even try to hide her feelings on that statement. For a moment she purses her lips then shifts on the stool she is sitting on. "If it was me I would take him out for a steak dinner and then go to the bar by the station he and his friends hang out at." At Monroe's visible shudder she smiled. "Or have Hank and Wu take him out for dinner then meet them at the bar. Show him that you've noticed the changes he's made for you and that you appreciate them. That's more important than a monogrammed ice scrapper or a new watch."
Monroe considered, nodded as he worked his way through her logic. "That's a good idea. Thanks." He leaned over to kiss her on the cheek before standing up and stretching. "I think I'll give Hank a call now."

Date: 2016-01-06 02:48 pm (UTC)Fill: Justice League (Cartoon), Wally West/Bruce Wayne - A Safe Bet
Date: 2016-01-07 12:24 pm (UTC)___
The first thing Wally did after waking up was reaching towards the right side of the bed. When he found it empty he wasn't very surprised, since it meant that Bruce was already up and working. He yawned and only then opened his eyes, looking around the room. Indeed, he was definitely alone in Bruce's huge bed, and in his huge bedroom.
He knew they both had to be back in the Watchtower pretty soon, because he was sure Bruce wouldn't leave his cameras unattended for a longer period of time and, really, it wasn't like they could take a day off from saving the world. Still, the fact that Bruce took him to the Manor for supper was pretty nice. Surprising, yes, but nice.
Wally definitely wasn't going to complain about spending more time with Bruce.
Only after he sat up and yawned again he noticed that on his bedside table there was something he didn't remember leaving there the night before. It was a watch. A very expensive-looking watch, something Wally most likely wouldn’t buy for himself, because not only was it expensive, but he would also be afraid he would lose it or ruin it in some way. There was also a small note next to it, with his name written in Bruce's elegant handwriting. And it wasn’t even his birthday.
He took the watch gently and put it on, looking at it for a second. It was a very nice watch and Wally definitely understood why Bruce bought it in the first place. He ran one finger down the watch case before he got up, got dressed and went to search for Bruce.
Just as he expected, he found the man in the Cave, in front of the computer. He was looking at the screen, but Wally knew he was still perfectly aware of Wally being there.
He stepped closer to the computer and leaned against the console, smiling at Bruce.
“Thanks for the watch,” he said. “We all know I needed one. John and Shayera will definitely appreciate me having it.”
Wally meant it as a joke, but when Bruce's brow furrowed slightly, as if he wasn’t sure how to interpret Wally’s reaction, he was ready to apologize. He knew how Bruce got when he started over-thinking conversations, especially when Wally was joking. He wanted to add that he really appreciated the gift, just in case, but the strange look disappeared from Bruce’s face as he nodded shortly, turning from the screen to look at Wally.
“Have you had breakfast?” he asked, standing up.
“Not yet. Are we eating here or do you want to wait until we’re in the Tower?”
Bruce’s mouth twitched slightly as he put one hand on Wally’s lower back. “I doubt you would want to wait that long.”
Wally grinned at him. “That would be a safe bet, yes.”
They walked in silence, but right before they entered the dining room, Wally stopped them.
“Bruce?”
Only when the man turned his head, Wally looked him in the eye, wanting Bruce’s complete attention.
"You don’t have to buy me, you know. I’m already 100% nuts about you. Just so you know."
Bruce didn’t say anything to that, but the way his fingers caressed Wally’s back in reply, combined with how the expression on his face softened, made Wally smile. And he couldn’t stop smiling for the whole day after that.

Snart crossed the cement floor in a few strides. "Give me your hand." He didn't make requests.
Barry obeyed. "Hey, what's up? How are you doing?" He tried for a polite smile.
Snart grabbed his wrist. "This is a brand new Apple Watch."
Barry stared at the gleaming blank watch face. "Please tell me this wasn't stolen."
Smart fastened the band smoothly, his fingers confident and warm against Barry's skin. "It's been modified so you can contact your little Scooby Gang at a single word, and it can measure how fast even you run. I also installed the newspaper app where Iris works so you can keep an eye on your press."
Barry blinked. "Did you steal this from Cisco? Because he said he was going to give me a --"
Snart tugged Barry close for a kiss, quick and dirty and stolen. Then he turned and walked away.
"Hey!" Barry called after him. "What about our date?"
The watch beeped. It was a calendar alert. Dinner at an upscale restaurant across town in ten minutes. Dress up nicely. Depart now to get there on time. Barry took off in a crackle of colored lightning. Could he choose the right outfit in under ten minutes?

Date: 2016-01-06 06:20 pm (UTC)Well, a few days later it turns out that Eggsy does not have even the proper kind of shoes, let alone accessories needed to make him look like he belongs in that suit. So Harry buys those for him as well, waving off his protests by telling Eggsy he can always pay Harry back. Harry knows he will wave off those payments in any way he can.
A week after that Harry realizes that Eggsy's hair is just a little too long for the Harry is envisioning and so they go to a barber Harry has known for twenty years. He's casual about slipping the hair care products Eggsy will need in just before the receptionist rings up their bill.
They go to lunches and dinners and brunches and Harry encourages Eggsy to try anything that catches his eye when Eggsy looks nervous about menus that don't list the prices. Harry pays the bills without thinking about it.
They'll be taking a walk, just casually chatting, and something will catch Eggsy's eye. Usually something he thinks Daisy or his mother will like but on occasion Harry will catch him eyeing something but resolutely turn away without saying anything and that's when Harry knows that Eggsy really likes it. It's not difficult to go back to those shops after he and Eggsy separate for the day and pick up one or two things for the three of them and have them delivered to the house.
Always, Eggsy tries to protest but Harry waves him off. He's got no one to leave his money to and if he wants to indulge himself with making someone happy... well, why not?
It's when Mrs. Unwin corners him and starts asking his intentions about Eggsy that things come into focus for Harry.
Eggsy wears a different suit nine days in a row, properly shod and accessorized and Harry knows the exact day and time each of those items were bought. He looks around the Unwin house and realizes that Half the belongings were things he'd bought and had delivered. It's weird to realize that Eggsy has stopped having that pinched look whenever Harry takes him to eat and no longer even attempts to reach for the bill at the end of the meal. That Eggsy no longer tries to protest the expense of Harry's gift or return them to him.
It's somewhat embarrassing to realize that one has become a sugar daddy without noticing. Merlin just laughs at him, the bastard, when Harry comes to him for advice on how to proceed.
As for his intentions.... Well, when this had all started Harry had simply wanted to help his protege get a bit of a boost, especially considering the kind of people he would eventually end up dealing with. After that it had simply been fun to get Eggsy presents, to feel that dash of ego whenever Eggsy thanked him.
It's a slap in the face to realize that at some point his intention shifted from merely having fun to subtly trying to prove he could provide for Eggsy.
There's no fool like an old fool Harry tells himself as his heart flutters whenever Eggsy smiles at him.
Months later Harry will find that no present he has ever received comes even close to rivaling that first chaste kiss Eggsy presses on him as they go to part ways at the end of their stroll.

Fill: Roots [Green Lantern, Hal/Sinestro, R]
Date: 2016-01-06 09:53 pm (UTC)“...My charming personality?” He guesses, shifts a touch uncomfortably. In this, as in all things, Sinestro is hardly gentle – there’s a yanking at his roots, and his eyes prickle at it, “my skill with words? My sunny temperament that brings light and joy to your life?”
“No,” Sinestro says flatly, tightens that hand in his hair, “it’s your mouth.”
“My mouth?” He asks, and barely holds back on a wince. He’s not a baby when it comes to pain, but Sinestro always seems to be finding ways to twist that dagger just a little bit deeper, “that’s technically linked to my skill with words, you-“
“Your mouth,” Sinestro interrupts with relish, and actually lifts up a hand – traces his lips with a care that he never expected, and that kind of stuns him as a result, “I never thought that a mouth could be pretty before I met you, Jordan, but here we are. Your mouth is a monument, a beacon, a work of genius. Your mouth could drive a man to believe in gods, to worship at an alter like a common fool. Your mouth... Is the most perfect work in the universe. And sometimes, just sometimes, I think I am blessed to be favoured by it.”
“...Uh,” he says, and is suddenly surprised to find all the pain no longer important. For how could it be, next to that look in Sinestro’s eyes? “Thaal-?”
“Jordan,” it’s always surprising, how quickly Sinestro’s face can close up. The hand in his hair tightens sharply, and suddenly his head is being shoved quickly back down like the moment of tenderness never even happened, “get on with it. It’s not like we have all day.”
He sighs, low and slightly sad, but willingly opens his mouth again

"Here, I got you something, my love" he says handing her a small flat black velvet box. She strokes the box softly and looks up at him in wonder. Then opens it to find a gold chain with a little round golden locket and her eyes light up with delight.
As she fumbles with the tiny catch on the locket, his mouth moves closer to her ear. She gazes longingly at the picture inside and he starts to whisper. Telling her the story of the woman in the locket. How he'd grabbed her with only the smallest of struggles as she walked home late at night. How he'd pulled her into the underpass to where only the litter and fallen leaves ever thought to wander. Of the way he'd told the woman how important she was, that she was going to be a present for his lover, and how the light left her eyes at the exact moment he snapped the photograph. How he did it all for her. A perfect gift for his perfect girl.
"Thank you darling. It's perfect." she murmurs.
She turns her head to kiss him. Holding the locket tightly in her hand. He knows her so well. She thinks he is the only person in the whole world who has ever truly understood her.
"And I have something for you too," she grins grabbing his hand and leading him towards the bedroom. Once they are there she pauses a moment at a miniature wardrobe styled jewellery box. Inside are dozens of little hooks. And on nearly every one of them hangs a locket on a chain. She gently places her latest gift onto an empty hook then closes the box.
Her lover watches with fascination as she does this, then he glances towards the bed.
She shakes her head lightly at this and tugs at his hand "The bathroom" she says heading for the en-suite. As she pulls back the shower curtain he sees the slumped body of a young man. Bound and gagged and barely conscious.
Now it is his turn to grin.
"I know you like to watch," she says picking up the knife.
"It's the best present in the world my love. How did you know?"

Date: 2016-03-24 06:30 am (UTC)When she sees the glint of gold on her finger, what Regina remembers is Daniel's hopeful expression when he offered the ring to her. Her own joy at what it represented.
The boy she loved, promising to spend the rest of his life with her.
If she'd known then what she knew now, Regina would have tossed the ring back at him and ordered that he leave at once.
But that girl hadn't understood to what lengths her mother would go to give her a queen's crown. She hadn't imagined how easy it would be to reach into that boy's chest and turn his heart to dust.
For those few hours between happiness and despair, Regina had been full of hope.
She would run away. She would become a wife to a husband who loved her. There wouldn't be any fake smiles or haunted silences, like there were in her childhood home.
She would be free.
Or she would have been. If that snot-nosed brat hadn't babbled about.
But Snow White had betrayed her.
And her mother had to act in response.
Now all that remained was the small ring that proved she had once been loved.
Regina closed her fist, picturing herself crushing Snow's heart. And with a soft kiss against the thin band around her finger, Regina promised her True Love that one day she would avenge his death.
