þórsdagr: Old Age
Jan. 21st, 2016 09:00 amGood morning! I’m
doreyg, yet again, and today's theme is Old Age. Prompts today should focus around characters who are 50+ (which isn't exactly old, of course, but counts as such for ease of prompting today) - this can involve characters who are 50+ in canon, your characters aged up or even your characters imagining what they'll be like when they're older.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some distinguished examples...
+ The Flash (TV)/Batman (comics), Henry Allen/Alfred Pennyworth, they bond over their ridiculous superhero children
+ Ant-Man (2015), Hank Pym/Scott Lang, it must be love
+ Unbeatable Squirrel Girl (comics), Doreen Green/Nancy Whitehead, in the future they’re little old grandmas who solve crime
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2016 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.
Have fun!

Date: 2016-01-21 08:10 pm (UTC)He headed up toward the briefing room where he heard Mitchell's voice, a stream of Capitol Hill ducklings trailing behind him. It would be good for them to see the famed SG-1 in action.
Jack stepped into the briefing room. Vala was leaning forward, chin in her hands, looking extremely bored and yawning pointedly at the presenter in the front of the room. Jack didn't know the kid, but he looked familiar. The SGC was recruiting them younger and younger these days. Landry was looking between Carter and Mitchell, who were debating fiercely. There was no sign of Daniel.
Jack lifted a hand to wave. "Hi. Just dropping by with the delegation from Washington, thought I'd introduce them to our flagship team."
Carter lit up. "Hey, sir. Good to see you."
"O'Neill. Indeed." Teal'c was standing in the corner, arms crossed across his chest.
And then a sixteen-year-old boy leaned in and kissed Jack on the cheek. "Hey, Jack," he said, and resumed his position in the front of the room. "So this planet could have a valuable source of trinium, and I think it's worth checking out."
Jack was a military veteran. He was experienced in all kinds of strangeness. He was pretty impressed with himself for not freaking out and hauling off and socking the kid across the face.
There were several sharply indrawn breaths just behind him.
DADT had been repealed. Nothing wrong here. Except for the fact that the kid was sixteen.
He was skinny and narrow in the shoulders, and wearing blue BDU's that were long enough for him but otherwise just far too big. He had dark blond hair and glasses and was gesticulating enthusiastically.

Date: 2016-01-22 12:43 am (UTC)He knows he's no longer the fresh-faced, pretty-young-thing that had practically handed Gibbs an autographed copy of Tony's daddy-issues and begged (silently but still begged) for Gibbs to step into that roll for him. He's glad now that Gibbs never had. Not really.
The respect Gibbs had given him and the high expectations had done more to sort Tony out then anything else he'd ever had and it was only when Tony had exceeded those expectations that Gibbs had given even a hint that he might have caught the other signals Tony had been throwing him.
And it's been so good, the last ten years. So good that Tony can't help but worry. He's seen the looks younger agents have shot Gibbs, the comments just toeing the line of improper. Gibbs is gorgeous, smart, brave, strong and as honest as his job will allow him to be. Who wouldn't want him?
Tony can see the wrinkles around his eyes growing deeper with every passing year, the subtle start of sagging in the flesh of his jaw that would easily turn jowly if he allowed himself to indulge the way his father had. The ever so tiny start of a beer belly no matter how much he worked out.
The more he looked in the mirror the more imperfections appeared and when he compared himself to the younger agents he had trouble understanding what Gibbs saw in him.
Strong arms with warm calloused hands circle him from behind. He catches Gibbs's eyes in the mirror. There's sawdust still clinging to his hair.
"Hello, Beautiful." Gibbs says.
Tony may not see what Gibbs sees, but there is no lie in the easy words and, for the moment, it is enough to set aside his insecurities.
Tony is not as young as he once was but he'll hold onto what he has as long as he can.

Date: 2016-01-22 12:30 am (UTC)In her lifetime Jenny has been witness of many births, more than she can count with her hands. When she had her own daughter she finally understood completely the women she had helped to bring their babies to the world and into their arms, and back then she thought it was understandable the relief and the tears and the permanent smile they couldn't hide. The one she wore permanently as she saw her daughter give her first steps, say her first word and every day she grew bigger, more beautiful and smart.
She thought she would never feel something similar, Jenny was very wrong.
The tiny bundle stirs in her arms, the little girl looks serene and Jenny is filled with a peaceful feeling she hasn't felt in years. Her granddaughter is responsible for a variety of new feelings she's experiencing now.
Turns out grandkids can make you the happiest woman in the world, and that you'll love them unconditionally just like your own kids.
Jenny begins a lullaby she learned when she was a young nurse, softly singing to the girl she holds close and dearly.

Date: 2016-01-22 12:55 am (UTC)Bruce is almost seventy and he's not sure how many more transformations he can take before his body gives out on him.
Ironically, the Other Guy hasn't aged a day and He's got digital evidence to back up that claim. Bruce wonders if he should just let the Other Guy stay and have the rest of their natural life. Just "forget" to turn back and save the both of them from the life he's currently living. He doesn't know if he can die of natural causes or if the Other Guy's functional immortality holds true for him too.
(Bruce won't admit it, even to himself, that he's terrified of ending up like Tithonus: immortal but too old and infirm to do much of anything but lie in bed and beg for death that will not come.)

Date: 2016-01-21 09:44 pm (UTC)_____
Chris grimaced as soon as he got up, feeling aching in his shoulder and back. Well, it could have been worse. He was just lucky he was still alive. Sighing, he walked up to the door quietly, but before he left the room, he looked at the bed again.
Phil was lying on his back, the comforter wrapped securely around him, just as Christ left it. He was snoring quietly, mouth slightly open, his thin, silver hair ruffled. He looked peaceful and comfortable.
One was snuggled against Phil, her head pillowed on his shoulder. She had her arm wrapped around his waist loosely, her long hair falling on her shoulder and the pillow, her lips curled in a soft smile.
Only after Phil moved a bit, uncovering his left shoulder, Chris noticed a small wet spot on Phil’s rumpled shirt, right between his shoulder and neck, a place where Chris’ head was pillowed about ten minutes earlier. He really hoped Phil wouldn’t notice it – Phil teased him about drooling more than enough.
They both looked gorgeous. And warm, too. For a few seconds Chris considered getting back to bed, snuggling against Phil again and wrapping his fingers around One’s hand, which was now lying on Phil’s chest. That was not a part of the plan, though.
It was Phil’s 150th birthday and Chris woke up earlier (doesn’t matter how much One teased him, he could wake up early when he was motivated enough) to surprise Phil and One with breakfast in bed. He even managed not to wake them up when he got up, of which he was quite proud, since they were both light sleepers.
It was a warm morning, and when Chris entered the kitchen, he inhaled deeply. Retirement wasn’t as bad after all. He ordered three plates of scrambled eggs, fruits, coffee for himself and orange juice for Phil and One, and chocolate muffins Phil loved. He put everything on the tray, admiring his work for a few seconds, before getting back to the bedroom.
Phil and One were still asleep when the door slid open, so Chris put the tray on the bedside table, sat down on the bed and pressed a gentle kiss to Phil’s lips.
The man groaned quietly as he opened his eyes, but a small smile appeared on his face as soon as he looked at him, making Chris smile back. “Morning, birthday boy,” he said before leaning forward to kiss One, who smiled against his lips after a second, reaching to touch his cheek with one hand.
When Phil and One leaned back against the headboard Chris placed the tray on Phil’s lap. Only then he noticed that the man was smirking at him.
“Thanks, kid.”
One snorted at the comment, but it quickly turned into a giggle when Chris just shook his head. “Kid? Really?”
“Apparently,” One winked at Chris before she put one hand on Phil’s cheek, turning his head to look into his eyes. “Happy birthday, Phil,” she said as she leaned in, touching her lips to his.
Chris smiled, raising Phil’s hand to his lips, kissing the knuckles gently. “Happy birthday.”
