Have you had the kind of week I have? Okay, so I'm not daydrinking or anything yet, but I've been tempted!
Salaam, everyone! I’m
squidgiepdx and if you're ready to kiss this week goodbye, then today's your special day. Today's prompts are all about vacation; planning one, going on one, kicking and screaming and burying yourself in the sand do you don't have to come back from one - whatever it is, if it's about vacations, then let's do it! Want examples? So how's about some crazy-haired Polish cop accompanies a crazy RCMP Mountie up to the wiles of Canada in the middle of winter, complaining about frostbite. Maybe some spiky-haired Colonel drags the city's CSO through the Stargate for a much needed leave. Or maybe some short Italian cop is sitting in his office on Oahu, counting the days until he gets to go back to a freezing New Jersey.
So pack your bags, and let's get on the road!
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Person of Interest, Harold Finch +or/ John Reese, Taking John to that special spot that nobody knows about
+ Breakfast with Scot, Sam Miller/Eric McNally + Scot, The first overseas vacation for the family
+ Captain America, Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes, They end up in Europe, and it brings back so many memories
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2016 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2016-04-22 02:17 pm (UTC)But David had told him to drive and keep on driving and not stop, not ever, so Evan was going to keep at it, even if he wanted a chance to pause and just snap a few pictures for reference. David was small in the passenger seat, shoulders hunched, hands white-knuckled where he was twisting them on his lap.
Finally David said, "I'm sorry."
Evan glanced at him. "What for?"
"For my parents. We only get two weeks on Earth, and -"
"You can't have known they'd react like that."
"They were so disappointed I became a botanist instead of a soldier like everyone else. I should have known. When I told them I was coming home with an Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, they were so pleased, so relieved. I - all of my siblings are straight, and all of the grandkids seem straight so far, so I never thought -"
Evan sighed. He pulled the car off to the side of the road, cut the engine. David made a small sound of distress.
"Evan -"
Evan reached across the front seats, put his hand on David's. "You're not your parents. This isn't your fault. I'm not angry about what they said to me. I'm angry at what they said to you. You're their son."
"My family's not like your family -"
"You didn't hear what everyone on the commune said to me when I signed on with the Air Force." Evan bit back the bitterness in his own voice. "No family is perfect. I'm sorry our leave plans got turned on their head. But we still have each other."
"You sure your mom won't mind us just showing up?"
"I'm pretty sure me showing up with a lovely botanist like you might put a dent in the Everest of disappointment I caused my family when I decided to work for The Man," Evan said. "They'll adore you. Just...don't let my sister talk you into getting a tattoo."
David sighed. "I'm sorry. I -"
"Stop apologizing. We're taking a nice drive through a beautiful part of the country I've never seen before. We're back on Earth, and there's no ocean in sight, an there are no Wraith shooting at us. I'm here with you, and I'm happy, okay?"
"Are you sure?" David peeked at him from beneath spiky wet lashes.
Evan paused. "Well, there is one thing that would make me happier."
"What?"
"This." Evan rolled down the windows, fired up the radio to something slow and jazzy, and stepped out of the car. He circled around the front of the car and opened David's door, offered him a hand.
"What are you doing?"
Evan pulled David into his arms and began to sway with him, and around them the beautiful leaves fell, and for the space of a song, everything in the universe was perfect.

Date: 2016-04-22 05:30 pm (UTC)“I think it was Vala,” Daniel said.
Vala was wearing some kind of form-fitting black uniform and carrying a fake alien gun. Beside her, Cam was wearing some kind of space pirate outfit, complete with black leather pants, some brown vest with too many buckles, and a pair of guns.
“Comic Con, though?” Jack said. “What are we, teenagers?”
Daniel smiled and smoothed down the lapel of his own tweed jacket. “I think you make a great Indiana Jones.”
“You look nothing like Marcus,” Jack pointed out. “Who are Vala and Cam even supposed to be?”
“You never watched Farscape?” Daniel asked. “Wait, what am I saying? You’ve never seen Star Wars, no matter how hard Teal’c tries to get you to see it.”
“I’m more of a Simpsons kind of guy.” Jack fixed Daniel with an annoyed look, but Daniel just smiled sunnily.
Teyla wandered past. She was a beautifully bronzed Princess Leia, complete with slave bikini and blaster pistol, and Ronon trailed behind her, dressed as Chewie. Parrish had somehow been corralled into playing Luke, and he kept tugging at the collar of his white outfit self-consciously. Lorne...looked surprisingly good as Han, though. He had translated his soldier confidence into Han’s rebel swagger, and when he grinned, he had a dimple.
“I still don’t see why you aren’t Spock,” John protested. “You’re the scientist.”
“You cannot fool me - I read your masters thesis.” Rodney was slathering something into John’s unruly hair. “You’re far more brilliant than you let on. Besides, I have blue eyes, and it makes more sense for you to be Spock. You kind of already have the ears.”
John scowled at his boyfriend. Rodney smirked and leaned in, pressed a kiss to a spot behind John’s ear that made John’s eyes slip clothes. Jack had to look away, because he worked with them.
A flashbulb went off, a bunch of teenage girls dressed like something out of a crazy Japanese cartoon cheered.
“Look, they hired professional cosplayers for the new Star Trek movies! And they pulled out all the stops on the slash,” one of the girls said, snapping more pictures of Rodney and John, who looked startled. After a moment, though, they got into character, John assuming a dispassionate expression, Rodney smirking and flashing his blue eyes at them.
Sam, of all people, was wearing a brunette wig and dressed as Major Stacey Monroe from Wormhole X-treme! Somehow, she’d corralled Teal’c into getting himself painted silver to play Grell, the robot. She was posing for pictures for strangers dressed in all kinds of costumes, and she was impressing them with fancy scientific talk.
Woolsey was dressed as some random Star Trek character, and more than one Trekkie with bad fake ears had squealed at him and asked for his autograph. He tried to fend a few of them off, but they were insistent, so he shrugged and just signed random things they offered him.

Date: 2016-04-22 06:15 pm (UTC)John reached out, patted his knee. He kept his gaze on the road. “I’m a lawyer. I can be very persuasive.”
“But...law school reunions? Seriously?”
“Come on. We’re going to Stanford next week. We can go surfing. It’ll be great.”
“But...Harvard.” Rodney slumped down in his seat. “Boston. I just -”
“You were there for MIT too, weren’t you?”
“I was. There. For a long time. And it’s a great city. But I…” Rodney sighed. “My ex. Teaches there now.”
“Ex?”
“Peter Kavanagh,” Rodney said. “He was into IP like me, hard science undergrad. Smart enough. Also just kind of an ass, but it was law school and we were stressed out and we put up with a lot of crap from each other. And now all that’s left is...crap.”
“Pretty sure I could take him in a fight,” John said, grinning.
“Yes, cavemen squabbling for my affections, so attractive.” Rodney rolled his eyes.
“It’ll be fine. You’re working for a great law firm, and you’ve been onboard with patents for some of the most ground-breaking technology in the last couple of years.” John patted his knee again. “You have nothing to be ashamed of.”
Rodney slumped in his seat. “Actually, when I was rushing for the law fraternity, well...all of my law school classmates call me Meredith. Just so you’re prepared.”
“Oh?” John raised his eyebrows.
“Tell me something embarrassing about you just so we can be on even ground,” Rodney said.
John cast Rodney a sidelong glance. He was pale, looked really stressed out. “Listen, if you don’t want to go, we don’t have to. I just thought it’d be fun, seeing where you went to school, showing you where I went. We’re successful adults, Rodney. We should be proud of the work we do.”
“I’d rather go to a high school reunion, honestly,” Rodney muttered.
John spotted an exit sign, changed lanes, pulled onto the exit and then off to the shoulder, cut the engine.
Rodney blinked. “What are we doing?”
“Be straight with me, Rodney. Do you want to go to this reunion?”
“Yes. No. I don’t know.”
“Would it help if I told you I brought that three-piece Armani to wear to the cocktail hour?”
Rodney sat up straighter and said, “Drive on.”
As it turned out, Rodney need not have worried about how his classmates would receive him, because they had heard about his patent work, and they were impressed, had lots of questions about how the tech itself worked. A good chunk of his classmates also looked impressed when he introduced John, who looked delectable in one of his best suits. John turned up the charm, smiling, telling witty anecdotes, and keeping one hand in the small of Rodney’s back, a constant reassuring presence.
What Rodney wasn’t prepared for was one of his old professors walking past him and going straight to John, saying, “John Sheppard, came to see what you missed out on?”

Date: 2016-04-22 02:25 pm (UTC)Lilo&Stitch/Despicable Me, Edith/Lilo & Nani/David
Date: 2016-04-22 03:12 pm (UTC)(follows this)
"You know," Edith says five hours into the flight, "Dad has a private jet we could've used."
Nani sighs heavily. David's crooning a lullaby to their youngest, barely a year old, while Stitch is trying to entertain the other three, and everyone else in first class (and Nani is SO GLAD she accepted Mr. Gru's offer to pay for first class) pretends Stitch is a dog, and Lilo's been asleep since twenty minutes in.
"Thank you, Edith," Nani says as graciously as she can because she really does like Lilo's fiancée. But while flying first class is one thing, putting her babies into that death-trap plane-thing the Grus use is not an option. She's seen the news footage.
Edith laughs quietly. "Margo's never been that fond of it, either," she confesses, like she read Nani's mind. Maybe she did. She smiles down at Lilo, who's plastered to her side the way she used to do to Nani, ages ago.
Ailani finally falls asleep in David's arms. She's usually very quiet but she apparently hates planes as much as Nani does. Akela and Hiki try slipping away, the little monsters, but Stitch is faster and catches them both up without even pulling out his extra arms. They're bigger than he is now, nearly nine, but they both laugh. The other passengers ignore it.
While Stitch is distracted with the twins, Kai manages to escape and he toddles over to Nani. "How do you keep track of them all?" Edith asks. "I mean, at least the minions are indestructible."
Nani glances at her. "Do not ever introduce them to Stitch," she orders and Edith buries her laughter in Lilo's hair.

Date: 2016-04-22 07:03 pm (UTC)"Well, it is a Federation approved holiday planet, sir. It ought to be pretty safe."
"Yes. It ought to be. Just ... Let's just run down the checklist one last time anyway. Just to be sure, all right? So. As far as we know, the planet is not an elaborate alien trap?"
"Not that we've picked up, Captain."
"Right. The flora doesn't drug, poison or otherwise kill anyone? Or get up and walk?"
"Botanical gave it the once over soon as we arrived. Clean as a whistle."
"Okay. There's no hidden supercomputer luring people in to fight its wars?"
"No transmission or anomalous energy signatures that any of our equipment can pick up. As far as the Enterprise can tell, there's no technology of any sort beyond what Starfleet itself put down there."
"All right. I suppose that covers most energy beings and elaborate simulations as well. The planet itself is fine? It's not about to enter its death throes unannounced?"
"Astrophysics and stellar cartography say not, sir. Solidly in the habitable zone, no major tectonic activity, temperatures and humidity very comfortable. There's some lovely weather down there, by all accounts."
"And the inhabitants? No hidden plagues, plots to kidnap us and steal our ship, telepathic abilities, putative dictatorships, propensities for sacrificing strangers? No indications that they're all secretly androids or otherwise not what they seem?"
"... Not according to Starfleet databases, or from the two days worth of observation so far."
"Okay. Good. That's good then. Well, I mean, I think that's everything? You can't think of anything I've missed, can you?"
"Not off the top of my head, Captain. You might try Dr. McCoy."
"Hah! If I ask Bones, we're never getting off this ship again. No, I think this is as good as we're going to get. That'll be all, Mr. Scott. Ask Mr. Spock to do up the shore leave rota, will you?"
"Aye, Captain. 'Twill be my pleasure. And, ah. If I might make a suggestion?"
"Fire away, Scotty."
"Send Dr. McCoy down with me, aye? I've some very nice Rigelian brandy I've been meaning to split with him. Should help get him into the swing of things, if you follow me."
"... An excellent idea, Mr. Scott. And your sacrifice is duly noted."
"Oh, anything for the cause, sir. Anything for the cause."
