Friday: The Final Frontier
Apr. 29th, 2016 07:58 amHello, everyone. I’m
oh_mcgee and today's theme is space. Prompts can be anything having to do with space. Fandoms in space, characters stargazing together, space AUs, fandom fusions, etc. You know what to do.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rey/Finn/Poe, curtain fic
Green Lantern (comics), Hal Jordan/Bruce Wayne, 5 Ways Bruce distracts Hal enough to get his ring from him
Green Lantern (comics), Hal Jordan/Thaal Sinestro, space road trip
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2016 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2016-04-29 01:40 pm (UTC)Fill: Gundam Wing - Trowa Barton + Cathy Bloom - Heavenly Lights
Date: 2016-06-13 02:43 am (UTC)"It's just starting." Trowa scooted over on the blanket he had draped across the rough surface and patted the space next to him.
"Good." Cathy made her way quickly to across to where he was laying then plopped down with a contented sigh, her eyes already scanning the sky for any signs of light.
Wordlessly, Trowa pointed out the first meteors as they streaked across the sky, smiling as Cathy oo'd and ah'd at each one. Soon, the sky was filled and they watched, each lost in his or her own thoughts.
"Do you miss it? Being in space?" Cathy asked softly as the last of the streaks in the sky faded, leaving only their memory behind.
"No. Not really." Trowa pulled himself up so he was sitting crossed legged facing her.
Cathy sat up and moved to the side so she could wrap her arms around Trowa pulling him close. "I'm glad you're here."
Trowa leaned into her, resting his head on hers and sighed before closing his eyes for just a moment. "I am too."

Date: 2016-04-29 01:49 pm (UTC)Fill: Babylon 5, Marcus Cole/Neroon
Date: 2016-09-27 05:47 pm (UTC)Marcus grinned widely, dark hair in his eyes that he had to toss back with his head alone, as his hand was busy. Dark eyes twinkled merrily in the dimmed light of his quarters, on the austere pallet of his bed. Neroon had appreciated that last night, the first of many things that had been appreciated.
"It generally means 'I want to touch you, I want contact with you, not necessarily sexual but...intimate." he explained patiently, clearly. Warriors, no sense of romance whatsoever. Well, he always did like a challenge.
"You're a warrior,a hero. I'm quite capable of playing the damsel tied to the railroad tracks."
The space between Neroon's brow bones wrinkled as he tried to translate, understand the unfamiliar idiom. He opened his mouth to ask but Marcus pulled him close.
"Hush, heroes don't talk. Kiss me."

Date: 2016-05-17 11:57 pm (UTC)If the station decompressed, if it was explosive, then they should have all met a quick demise with little to no warning. No pain, no fear, no final minutes unable to tell anyone in Houston that they were alive, they were here.
Still breathing. For the time being.
Peter resented it, truly he did.
He and Alana had been in their suits, having just returned from an EVA, when the fire ignited, all the way at the far end of ARCTURUS, and had only needed to re-initiate the oxygen tanks to keep themselves safe while the station rocked, rolled, and burned.
Now they had a terrifying front seat as the part of ARCTURUS that hadn't immediately fallen back toward the planet began to destabilize, slowly moving toward atmo, all while they ran down their air.
Thankfully, the latter would happen for them before the former.
“Are you scared, Peter?” Dumais asked, looking out at the vast open space around them.
He didn't need to ask what she meant; he took a minute to think about it, still, then shook his head and admitted, voice soft over the radio, “No. I'm not scared. Look at that,” he nodded toward the space ahead of them, “Could I have a more beautiful view at this moment?”
Alana gave him a small, half-broken smile. “I suppose there is that.”
Drawing her close with an arm, settling it across her bulked shoulders, he added, “It will be like going to asleep...” and, “As the oxygen runs down, we'll just get tired from the CO2 recirculating into the system and...”
“Sleep.”
“Yes.”
“Peaceful.”
“Peaceful.”
Tears tracked down her cheeks, as she murmured once more, “Peaceful,” and the radio's battery ran out.

Date: 2016-04-29 02:03 pm (UTC)Fill 1/2: Stargate Atlantis + Gundam Wing
Date: 2016-04-29 03:44 pm (UTC)"What?" John reached into the picnic basket for the popcorn. He wasn't a huge fan of popcorn, but he always ate at least a handful when it was on offer, in honor of Teyla, who was back in Pegasus and cut off from her favorite treat till the next Daedalus run.
"I wish things were exciting like they were before. You know, saving the world at the last minute."
"I've had enough excitement in my life," John said. "Now I get to watch marines suffer through being yelled at by an Air Force officer. Karma for all those Chair Force jokes." He smiled to himself. "Hey, look. Shooting star."
"Hah! I can make a wish!" Rodney closed his eyes and tipped his head back, and in that moment he looked oddly serene. Beautiful.
"You wished for excitement, didn't you?" John said, to cover up the way his heart was beating oddly.
"Absolutely. Hey, look, another falling star. Make a wish!"
John would have, but then he realized, at the same time as Rodney, that the falling stars were - matching speed. That wasn't natural. Nope. Not falling stars. They were getting bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger.
John fumbled for his cell phone. Had to call Control. Let them know. Surely they'd seen on their radars. Only -
The falling stars were coming straight for them. John dove at Rodney, covered Rodney's body with his, and prayed.
There was no heat, no light, no explosion, just a roaring, like a jet engine.
John dared to lift his head. Standing above them were two giant humanoid robots. One was black-white-grey with...bat wings? And a glowing green scythe. The other was white with primary color accents and...angel wings?
A robotic angel and demon. No way.
"What the hell?" Rodney said.
"Exactly what I was thinking."
The robots' glowing green eyes winked out, and then hatches opened in the chests of both robots. And...children stepped out.
Boys, one with an Asian cast to his features, spiky dark hair and blue eyes. The other looked caucasian, with big blue-violet eyes and a long red-brown braid. Neither looked older than fifteen.
"Kisama!" the Asian one spat. "This is why Quatre should have done the calculations."
The other boy raised his hands in a gesture of surrender. "Hey, this is Earth. My calculations were just fine."
"This isn't Point J, now is it?"
The long-haired boy peered down at John and Rodney, cowering over their picnic. "Well...no."
The short-haired boy drew a pistol from somewhere in his spandex-and-tank-top get-up. "We have to kill them. They've seen our faces."
"Hey now, let's not escalate to killing just yet," John said, rising slowly, hands raised in surrender. "Exciting enough for you, Rodney?"
"Maybe," Rodney said, and louder, "What are your robots made out of?"
"They're not robots, they're weapons of war," the gun-wielding loony boy said.
"Gundanium!" the other boy piped up, and loony boy hissed, "Duo! Urusai!"
"Look, we're really great at keeping secrets," John said. "In fact, you two might get shot for trespassing on a classified military installation. So how about we talk about this like rational, er, adults."
The long-haired boy peered at them more closely. "Do you have popcorn? I love popcorn."

Date: 2016-04-30 07:03 am (UTC)“She’s no fun,” Trip complained, ignoring Archer’s glare as he answered T’Pol’s call.
“Sub Commander we will be down here for a little while longer.”
“Captain is that advisable?”
“T’Pol we are explorers. We’re Exploring.”
“Captain.”
“We’ll be back in a couple hours. Archer out.”
“You know she’s going to make our life hell when we get back to Enterprise?” Trip pointed out as he bumped his shoulder against Archer’s.
“Probably. But it’ll be worth it.”
Trip just smiled. Yeah. It would definitely be worth it. An uninhabited class M plant with places to hike and a beach. Personally he was looking forward to seeing the beach and listening to the sound of the waves. The recordings he played while good were never quite right. “It’ll be worth the lecture about the risks we took for thirty minutes on the beach.”
“How about a swim?”
“That would be heaven. But… Suits?” because he knew it would just be his luck that he’d go skinny dipping and T’Pol would chose that moment to zoom in and there was only one person he wanted to him without clothes and he was walking next to him.
“No suits.”
“No suits? And T’Pol?” he asked voicing his earlier thoughts.
“Like we ever needed suits.”
Trip laughed. No they never needed suits and since Jon ignored his question about T’Pol he obviously wasn’t concerned and if Jon wasn’t concerned then he wouldn’t be either. He was just going to enjoy exploring the new world and taking a nice swim in a foreign ocean.

Date: 2016-04-29 10:13 pm (UTC)Jenny stands on the front porch of the Corbin cabin - it will, she thinks, always be the Corbin cabin, no matter how long she's officially owned it - and looks up at the stars twinkling in the indigo sky. As she watches, one of them breaks free from its orbit, streaks across the sky and she watches it go, follows its paths with her eyes until it disappears from sight. She's too old to believe in such childish fancies, has seen too much, lost far too much to believe that wishes come true, but she closes her eyes and makes one anyway.
The wood of the porch creaks as footsteps approach and she keeps her eyes closed as a pair of arms slip around her waist. With the barest amount of pressure exerted upon her, she leans back against his chest, her shoulders relaxing as he leans in, rests his chin on her shoulder.
"What did you wish for?"
Frank's voice is quiet and serious and she opens her eyes so that she can turn her head and look at him. "It's silly," she says. "But I wished Abbie could see me now... that she could know I'm ok... that I'm happy."
His lips curl in a sad smile, his eyes understanding. His palms flatten against her swollen stomach as he kisses her cheek, whispering the only two words she wants to hear right now.
"She knows."

Date: 2016-04-30 03:56 am (UTC)The Steven nodded, even as Peridot raised the space above her left optical receptor. "Yeah. We call it sleeping. We kinda need it to not die."
"That sounds inefficient."
"It can be fun!"
"How can a state of total helplessness be fun?"
"There's this thing called dreams. When you dream, you see things that aren't there. Sometimes you see things that can't be! Once Pearl dreamed about surfing with my mom but it was really my dad and they were on a giant slice of-"
Peridot raised a touch stub. "Please do not elaborate. How can uncontrollable hallucinations be fun?"
"It's hard to explain. You should just try it for yourself."
"I... don't think I will."
#
As she watched some of the human programming known as "infomercials" late that night, Peridot felt her body grow heavy. At first she thought that her gem was beginning to fail, but in the midst of her panic
She was home.
She was on a Gem-controlled world, in a manufacturing facility. Out of one of the windows, she could see the commuting routes across what remained of the world.
All around her there were other Peridots. Each one wielded different tools in their limb enhancers, preparing and applying parts to a new Gem ship. They worked in perfect harmony, their movements and actions timed to the second in order to maximize their effect. It was... beautiful.
A set of limb enhancers sat on a table in front of her. Without a second thought, she slid her arm into the right-hand one.
It didn't fit.
She tried again and it still didn't fit. Tipping it upright, she tried to shove her arm into it...
...and pulled back a stump.
The Peridots all around her spun around to stare down at her. You do not belong, they said without saying a word.
#
Steven fell out of his bed. He hadn't heard a scream like that since the thunderstorm, when Peridot thought it-
"PERIDOT!"
The next thing he knew, he was downstairs, standing next to the couch. The little green Gem was curled into a ball, whimpering like Dogcopter after something hit his blades.
"Peridot, it's me, Steven," he said, reaching out. She smacked away his hand, so he pulled it back, but not all the way. "What happened? What HAPPENED?"
She didn't say, but he could see tears in her eyes. They poured out, as if she didn't know how to cry.
