Martes: Myths and Legends
May. 9th, 2016 11:11 pmHello, I’m
dreammaidenn and today's theme is myths and legends. Prompts can be anything from mythology to urban legends. Maybe your character is a Mayan mythology enthusiast. However you choose to interpret the theme is okay. The main thing here is you have fun!
Just a few rules:
1. No more than five prompts in a row.
2. No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
3. Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
4. No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
5. If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get started:
*Supernatural, Charlie Bradbury + Dean Winchester, Charlie has gotten Dean into League of Legends and now they spend hours online.
*Greek Mythology, Persephone/Hades + Demeter, family dinner
*MCU, Tony Stark/Bruce Banner + Any, Mythbusters AU
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2016 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

His young wife glared at him. "You said you would play nice," she reminded him, her voice sharp enough that the servant at his side quivered.
The dead had little to fear, but their queen's wrath was one of those things. Humans came to his realm expecting to find a girl spirited into a marriage and a role she must be too soft-hearted to fulfill. They quickly learned that the Goddess of Spring was not about cheery blooms and warmer evenings, but the sheer will to push Winter away and the power to keep it underfoot for as long as she visited the surface.
Hades liked the strength of her. Even as it turned into her standing up against his whims. "Your mother hates the sight of me, dearest, and still I invite her to my home and will seat her at my table. Isn't that nice indeed?"
Persephone arched an eyebrow, waving at the platter now precariously balanced in the servant's shaky hands. "And this?"
"A token of my regard, of course," Hades said smoothly, aware that he was not fooling her but unwilling to bend yet. He had known there was no chance to get away with this addition to their dinner table tonight, but he wanted a boon from her in exchange. "The most beloved fruits of the Underworld. Surely the goddess of the harvest will appreciate such an offering?"
Persephone made a noise that neither would ever call a giggle. "Pomegranate?"
Hades tried for an innocent air. "Does she not like it?"
His wife made a visible effort not to roll her eyes. "I'm afraid she's lost her taste for it in recent years."
"Pity."
"Hm. I'm sure," Persephone said. Then she glanced at the quaking servant beside him. "That will be all. Return belowstairs."
Hades held up a hand. "Ah, not yet."
Hades almost pitied the terrified soul. But to the man's credit, he did indeed remain in his post.
"My dear, surely you wish Demeter to see the best of your new home?"
Persephone shook her head. "But not that, husband. It would only hurt her."
"Then, if not the fruits of our land, perhaps a show that it's now as yours as it's mine?"
She eyed him carefully. "My mother is well aware that I belong here. She weeps for six months straight over the fact."
"Of course. What mother wouldn't mourn a stolen child?" He kept the sneer from his voice, though the warning look in Persephone's eyes told him he hadn't been too successful.
Humans might buy into the tale of the grieving mother, but Demeter had wailed and fretted more over losing face in the power games the Olympians so delighted in, than because she feared for her daughter's fate. Just look how easily she had settled once they'd come upon an arrangement that had her as a winner (for he and Persephone were married, and returning her to her mother's care for half a year was a sacrifice no other husband would ever be asked to make).
He continued in a softer voice, "I believe she needs to see proof of your sovereignty here. To reassure her, of course."
Persephone narrowed her eyes, but he knew that she would be partial to the idea. On the surface, she played the favorite maiden in her mother's court. Here, the wife of Hades reigned supreme. "And what proof would this be?"
Hades smiled. He waved a hand in a dismissing motion, and the man made a sound of relief before scurrying away. A different servant, a woman this time, stepped from the shadows to replace him.
Her burden was different. Its color was still a deep red, with dark accents at the edges of the sleeves and the neckline that reminded one, perhaps, of little seeds. The silk was perfectly spun, soft and so thin he could pass the whole dress through one of his rings.
"You are my queen, my love. Dress the part."
Persephone glanced at the sumptuous dress, then down at herself and her more modest gown, more fit for a stroll down the green fields on the surface than a dinner room at a palace.
"A delightful idea, dearest," Persephone said, already lifting the dress from the servant's hands. She looked up at him, smiling and mischief dancing in her eyes. "To reassure Mother, of course."
Hades made her a small bow. "Of course."

Date: 2016-05-11 10:08 am (UTC)It isn't exactly high quality reading material but it does the trick. No, she's still bored but the ideas brewing in her mind are entertaining enough and she can actually drown out Leslie's cheerful voice, April ignores her pointedly when Leslie asks for volunteers. Opening and flicking through the pages of the Encyclopedia of Urban Legends she found in the bottom empty drawer of a cabinet while filing mind-numbing paperwork she shoved together in the end. When Leslie shots her a hopeful pointed look she pulls up the book to cover her entire face.
In the end Jerry is the one who ends up going with Leslie, big smile and carpets tucked under his arm. April rolls her eyes, weakling.
She reads up on Bloody Mary, the Woman in White, Hook-Man and the reasons why she should check the backseat of any car she gets in, before actually getting in. If they ever go back to Ron's cabin or Leslie drags them into a camping trip so they can bond, she will use this knowledge of freaky and sometimes ridiculous stuff to stop them from babbling in front of a fire for the entire night.
Unless they bring marshmallows.

Date: 2016-05-11 01:09 am (UTC)Chloe gives him a look. The look. "No."
Lucifer ignores her and goes on. "Dear old Dad, you know him as the Almighty, or Yahweh, or any of numerous names," he spins his hand for emphasis, "says he needs me to take over a very important job. To guard the gates of the underworld and make sure the sinners are punished. It's not my idea of a good job, no, but Dad says he needs me to do this, so I agree." Lucifer holds up a single digit. "Reluctantly."
Chloe turns her attention back to her notes on their latest case. Maybe he'll finish the story soon?
"So I took over guarding Hell and find out because of that, I have been vilified! Some of the suck ups spread rumors I was part of a war and had been defeated - defeated! - and sent to hell as a punishment!" Lucifer scoffs. "If I wanted to start a war, it would've been over that belief!"
"Uh huh," Chloe says, as she spots something she'd notated earlier. Something that clicks as she flips back to another note. Jumping to her feet, she grabs her keys and starts for the door.
"Wait, hold on, what are you doing?" Lucifer doesn't quite stumble after her but it's close.
"Solving a case!" Chloe shouts over her shoulder.
"But about the war?"
"Later!"
Lucifer grumbles under his breath but Chloe's pretty sure he's saying he'd rather solve the case than continue talking about his Daddy issues.
She hopes, at least.

Date: 2016-05-10 02:27 pm (UTC)Guide blinked at him. "What?"
"Kenny. It is the name John Sheppard gave me. You are Todd, and now I am Kenny."
Guide grunted and turned away, fiddling with the console some more, but Bonewhite knew, Guide was jealous. Unlike Michael, whose name had been bestowed upon him as a trick, Todd and Kenny had been given in camaraderie.
Bonewhite turned and swept out of the bridge, head held high.
Behind him, the other Wraith nudged each other and murmured, wondered: what would it take to earn a name from John Sheppard, the half-Ancestor with the fierce hair and the unquenchable will to live?
Meanwhile, back on Atlantis:
"Kenny? Really?" Rodney demanded. "What are you going to name the next Wraith we come across - Cartman? Kyle? Stan?"
"Cartman the Wraith has a nice ring to it," John said.
"Would that the Wraith died as easy as Kenny," Lorne muttered.
Teyla said, in an admirable imitation of Cartman, "Oh my god, they killed Kenny!"
Lorne, John, and Rodney stared at her.
Teyla said, "Amelia shows me her cartoons sometimes."
